Tarsem Singh Offered to Helm The Brothers Grimm: Snow White

I think Huntsmen has the better trailer. It's like they got a Bollywood trailer house for Mirror. I agree it's somewhat off putting I'm just looking at the entire situation as objectively as possible. The circumstance of a cooler trailer just having been released is also weighing in on the matter. It would be as if you got a Peter Jackson like Midsummer Nights Dream trailer and then a week later this premiered.

Is it really? I just don't see that.

I want both versions to succeed but after viewing the trailer, I'm speechless. I like Singh but unfortunately this didn't capture my interest and neither did the visuals, that it's shot on set is very noticeable. I know that he aims for family-friendly movie but it is to the point of too much of the comedy humor in the trailer, I hope this was just the case of the editing of the trailer but I don't want to keep my expectations high. The costumes look great as usual though, another superb job Ishioka.

It reminds me of when actors make fun of themselves for being in these type of children's movies.

Then they actually go and do a movie like this.

This looks really bad. The visuals aren't even that good. I'll take Charlize in all white or that awesome mirror effect in Snow White over this dud any day. I don't even think kids will enjoy this.

bleh... waayy more child friendly than i imagined... the original disney cartoon was darker than this lol... the only possible thing that could save it is good musical numbers if there even is any... but still, all those shots of julia roberts in her castle are abc family channel movie in feel.

i think i might prefer the kirsten stewart one more... even though i hate charlize theron...it at least looked like it tried

even though i hate charlize theron

eh, i think it looks fun. god forbid somebody makes a fairy tale film for children.

the problem lies with i think kids would think this is dumb unless the kids are 2

lion king is a kids movie

so is wall-e

this is something else entirely

This trailer looks like it was made for ABC Family.

I'll agree the trailer was edited rather poorly. I'm just going tor reserve judgment until something more than simply a teaser is released.

I don't disagree with the last sentence but are you really telling me, somebody who doesn't have a real dog in this fight, and was waiting to (and still am..) see how both projects turn out that Mirror, Mirror's trailer was good or even decent really?

It has nothing to do with tone either because I like light hearted films. It was just flat out and unappealing trailer.

Exactly. I welcome a movie free of cynicism. We need more of those. But this just looks bad. Julia Roberts' accent didn't even hold for the length of a trailer.

I just don't think Julia Roberts was trying to act like an Evil Witch, since there was nothing really wicked about her performance in the trailer. And that corset-pulling scene was rather cringe-worthy, so was that dog potion scene. Even Disney's version had more malice by comparison.

they seem to be going with a different interpretation. it looks like they're emphasizing her vanity and the fact that she's getting older.

I take back what I said about this being the better version. I was hoping for something along the lines of Princess Bride meets Coppola...and it looks like Ella Enchanted. Oh well at least the costumes are amazing as Eiko Ishioka who did the costumes to The Cell and Bram Stoker's Dracula is always breathtaking. But otherwise meh.

Oh and on casting--Lilly Collins is a MUCH, MUCH better Snow White than Kristen Stewart, but Julia Roberts isn't even in the same ballpark...even the same game as Charlize Theron.

I think I may pass on both. Sad, but true.

correction she looks like more traditional snow white

her acting is nothing to write home about and i would say is not as good of an actress as kristen

How many snow white films are there gonna be? lol. the one with Julia Roberts looks sooo bad...its not even funny, so I'll go with the one with Charlize Theron.

P.S. I have nothing against the use of obvious sets. It helps create the artifice and I love movies that embrace it for surreal looks--Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Cell, etc.

But the movie doesn't look artistically ambitious. It looks like Ella Enchanted or Shrek. And not the first one, but the sequels. Oh well.

So I read this thread and started watching the trailer. For the first minute or so I thought "Huh, I don't know what everyone's complaining about, this isn't so bad." Then it got progressively worse and worse until I was practically embarrassed to be watching it. I hope kids like this movie because I doubt any adults will.

This is an additional aspect where this fails, because many of the themes/jokes are in fact aimed at adults and will likely go over kid's heads(eg. fear of aging, etc.).

Looks really bad, IMO. It just looks like a wannabe Enchanted.
