The Dark Knight Rises TDKR SPOILERS (read at your own risk)

Am I the only one that thought that was quite cool?

It was quite cool for a movie that was setting up a sequel, but it's NOT cool for a movie that is supposed to be "ending" a self-contained trilogy.

People are rushing to judge this without having any context. Imagine you found out the end of the Dark Knight two weeks out without any context. Someone just posted on here that at the end of the movie, Batman is forced to retire because everyone thinks he murdered Harvey Dent.

The outrage would have been similar. The rumor has it that
Blake has as much or more screen time than Bale, so by the end of the movie I think we will know and love the character, and this will be less of a shock.

What made me fall in love with Batman Begins was the focus on Bruce Wayne's journey, not someone else's. If this movie is basically the John Blake show, then that will just add to the disappointment of the ending.

But these theories have been circulating on these boards since December. Is anyone really surprised? I was half expecting something like this.

Yeah, I remember a guy called Spoiler who was hinting like crazy regarding
John Blake, but then he never posted again. WB ninjas probably got him :hehe:

He said something like: I could tell you something about John Blake that would surprise you. He is just a cop, until the end....etc. I think he also said something regarding his name, but I can`t remember for sure.

Nevermind, I just read another review indicating [blackout]that Nolan and Bale are done with the franchise, but someone else could come in and pick up where they left off.

This is not a conclusion.[/blackout]

*sighs*

:csad::csad::csad:

Unless it was made clear. JGL could provide a shocked expression, and then shed a tear or two.

The only way it would be clear is if Blake looks straight at the camera and says "Guys! I won't be Batman, ok? I'm just here finding out that Bruce is Batman" Or if they flash a 'WILL NOT BE BATMAN' at the end. :p

The fact that a lot of the reviewers took it to mean that he's continuing on as Batman means that most will interpret it that way.

Well the Richard John Grayson/Richard John Blake thing has been out there for a while, with people speculating that he was adopted by some Blake family. But the
John Robin Blake thing
is brand new as far as I know. Where did that come from?

I think it came about since it just seems like Blake is helping Wayne/Batman as sort of a sidekick, reminiscent of Robin. I really doubt that's who he is.

Personally I think it depends on how it's done. I suspect it will be quite cool to see Blake realise that Briuce Wayne, international playboy, the man most likely not to be Batman, was in fact Batman.

Spoiler's posts from last year:

Bruce does get injured and his identity revealed in the first third of the film; it's as Bruce AND Batman they he reclaims the city, doing something his father always dreamed, becoming a symbol as both man and superhero. It's this closure that enables him to retire with Selina. And he does, passing on the torch to....Red Herring.

Mark this post because when the film comes out I want an Edible Arrangement as an apology for the doubting/hating that's sure to come.

His name actually should be Red....Red Herring.

I will explain more once I have the ability to post my own thread....

DOUBLE yup! Blake IS just a cop!

Until the end.

I don't think you understand....this is not a theory. I know someone in the postproduction of the film....it's fact.

Could tell you something about 'John' Blake that might surprise you, and it's not exactly the edit above.

Not...exactly.

The more I think about it, the less I think Blake is being setup to take over the mantle or become a 'Robin' - he doesnt have the funding for it, he doesnt have the training for it, etc. Either way - 7 days, folks!

No one is picking up the franchise and "continuing this series". It's over and done with. I'd bet my life on it.

I like that interpretation and I probably would lean to that but I'm guessing that the majority would not interpret it that way.

I wonder. It sounds fine with me, knowing how Nolan has done things in the past.

There are going to be complainers no matter how the movie ends...if you doubt it, head over to the Bioware forums.

Very true.

[blackout]Yet, that's not the impression that a few critics are getting from the ending.[/blackout]

Question for theShape, first off....hiiii.

(Joker imperission fails)

ANYWAY.

I asked this earlier and I felt this wasnt to spoiilerish.

How far into the movie does Batman actually appear? In Batman Begins it was at least an hour.

Those critics are stupid. Just because the whole cast doesn't die people assume Nolan will be setting up for a sequel, but no...that's not the case. Everything in this ending has a thematic purpose for the film AND the series overall.

This!!! MTE.

A good amount less than that. Not too late.

Yeah, I can't seem them carrying on in that way. Its been made abundantly clear that it will be time for someone else to bring their own take, their own vision, to the source material.

God Dammit. That makes perfect sense. If you follow the link you see that
he originally used Red Robin in place of Red Herring. To me this makes more sense than either Blake becoming Robin or the new Batman, as the Red Robin suit is basically a modified version of the Batsuit, which I can totally see Blake in:

This is looking more confirmed every day. I was hoping I could still be surprised, oh well.

haha, you said this many times in different ways and still no one listens.

Either way, i don't care as long as it's done well and invokes a similar kind of emotional reaction in me, the way that TDK did. From what you've said, I'm fully expecting that and more!

Thanks for your patience with some of the people on here. Your cryptic, non-revealing answers are only getting me more excited.

What i'm worried about is getting so excited that i end up disappointed with the final result, which has been happening to me for years (since x-men 3).

Also, I truly believe that if people are outraged by the ending, it'll be purely because of a stupid, fanboy-ish reason: because it's not perfectly in line with the comics. People will take things out of context and be blinded by their fanboy-isms, which is quite sad IMO because the ending plays out so well on screen.
