The funny thing about S.H.I.E.L.D. is that they weren't necessary at all in Iron Man 2 but were legitimately necessary in Iron Man 3. Makes no damn sense.

^ Agreed.

After watching both films again on Bku-ray recently, I see TDKR as the superior movie in every way.

TDKR - 10/10
IM3 - 7/10

TDKR is underrated if anything. It's got plenty of flaws, but it's head and shoulders above most comic book films and people have a flawed perception of it because they were blinded by unreachable hype, thanks to its predecessor.

Yep.

TDKR, but I love them both. And weirdly, I tend to find more flaws with that movie, too (I thought IM3 was much tighter overall). But TDKR was just the grander and more memorable cinematic experience for me at the end of the day.

I quite enjoy IM3 despite it's flaws. I loathed TDKR. So easy IM3 vote for me.

To me; Iron Man 3 is really good, but TDKR is great.

IM3 to me was a very forgettable movie. Humour conflicted with some interesting themes that Shane Black wanted to address. The Mandarin reveal didn't work for me. And the final battle was a mess. To be honest, Tony Stark is an awesome character but it's getting tiring seeing the same old Tony Stark from IM1 to 3. I wish the trilogy had some sort of character arc.

Easily TDKR. By the end of the film, TDKR had me feel something that to this day I can't explain (Avengers had this feeling too). A fantastic conclusion to a fantastic trilogy and it was nice to see Bruce Wayne earn his catharsis. Not to mention, Bane was intimidating and fantastic.

Tough for me to decide, I saw both of them twice, and loved them a lot in both views
I will say Iron Man 3 doesn't have recluse Bruce with the unnecessary injured leg, magic knee brace allowing him to kick and break a chunk of a wall after many years without purring that leg to practice, or some goofy explanation to why that one cop was so certain Bruce IS Batman.
And TDKR doesn't have the easily split suit, and useless fireworks blowing up all the costumes and vehicles
The funny thing about S.H.I.E.L.D. is that they weren't necessary at all in Iron Man 2 but were legitimately necessary in Iron Man 3. Makes no damn sense.
Iron Man fought a lot of battles with little to no back-up, I personally think it was a great thing to not include S.H.I.E.L.D.

i like Shane Black but IM3 is just...eh. they do a decent job of establishing the stakes in a way that feels very personal for Starks but, yeah, i dunno if that was the right direction after The Avengers sorta escalated everything. it just ends up feeling kind of small, whereas TDKR felt even bigger than TDK (though not as good). which would be fine if the drama and humor in IM3 were super effective, but they were both just okay (which surprised me cuz i thought Black would take the humor element to a different level).

and it's another one of these movies where the plotting is just way too convenient and often predictable and sometimes has some holes. people rag on TDKR's plot but it was way, way better than IM3's. and had better action. and technical credits. and ending. and etcetera. so yeah. TDKR.
