The Flash Teddy Sears IS Jay Garrick

So I'm gathering that Jay got his powers the same way Barry did on the show? So maybe Jay gets his powers back the way that he got them in the comics?

I would like to see Jay Garrick form the Justice Society of America with Black Canary Dinah Laurel Lance, Wildcat Ted Grant of Earth-2, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Jesse Quick.

Jay likely got his speed from the comics than in the show.

That's only because he's older in the comics... But he's been able to vibrate through walls and even travel between earths

No, even when Jay was younger, its been implied he wasn't as fast or as accomplished as Barry.

It's not just age, it's because within the Flash legacy, Barry has been shown to exceed Jay's exploits. In much the same way Wally has been shown to have surpassed Barry in some regards.

And I said "often". Not always.

Did i miss something? Where has he been the past few eps?

I wish the writers gave Jay more to do this season up to this point. I'm guessing business picks up shortly. I'm sorry but this iconic character needs his speed. Really sad to see him without it.

I hope they improve Jay's character soon because he hasn't had anything interesting to do in a long time. His first couple of episodes were very good, but ever since then, he's been all but irrelevant and superfluous to the plot.

Agreed. Waste of a good character and actor.

Is there even any point to have him on the show at all? They could have started all of this with Wells comming through and asking for help.

How can you judge a character's relevance to a story before the story is even halfway over?

He's probably going to hold the fort in coming episodes. Maybe he's going to get his speed back and quit sulking so much. Although it's weird, Teddy has the voice, cadence, intelligence and presence to be a hero yet the writers took that away from him for useless drama purposes. I'm sure that's a disservice as an actor to be treated the opposite of what you wanted in the character. Jay was the first incarnation of The Flash, the writers need to step it up with his development, a lot of people are just losing interest. Teddy deserves better.

Then we wouldn't have had The Flash from two worlds. That episode was worth it alone.

If anything, it would have been better to have him go back to his Earth when he had the chance so that they wouldn't have to waste time figuring out on how (little) he could contribute to a team that didn't really need him once Harrison Wells came onboard. The only purpose that he's served is to give Caitlin something more to do by being her love interest.

Heck, the fact that they still can't give us a name for his illness feels like a sign that they're making this all up as they're going along.

I agree that was a great episode. The problem is, the writers have clearly had trouble figuring out what to do with Jay ever since then. So far, Jay hasn't done much other than sitting around sulking, talking awkwardly with Caitlin, and occasionally yelling at Wells. The writers really need to craft more purpose for Jay if he's going to be a useful player this season.

Agreed with all of this, though I'm guessing he'll serve more of a purpose soon, because you know that Zoloman is going to factor into things in a big way. Even if he doesn't turn out to be Zoom (though I'm pretty sure he will), you don't just throw that name out there for nothing. Especially when the whole season revolves around Zoom.

But again... and I've said this before... Teddy almost looks like the ideal Barry Allen to me, at least if we're basing the show off the comics. I've always been on the fence about their decision to go the "Peter Parker" route with the character. I like Gustin a lot, but I feel like Teddy could have been a perfect comic book Barry.

Didn't he say he got sick because of Zoom taking his speed? That's never happened to anyone before, why would it have a name?

Jay Garrick's Disease

:woot:

Well Lou Gehrig's disease is a motor neuron disease and causes stiffness (of muscles), muscle twitching etc. Jay Garrick's Disease could easily be the more advanced Earth 2 form of that which affects his ability to use his muscles for speed and causes some kind of muscle degeneration. :oldrazz:

Jay Garrick has been the BIGGEST waste of a legendary character I've ever seen....

Why did they even bring him in............??

Spoilers because this is the episode 14 description

THE EXCITING CONCLUSION TO THE EARTH-2 JOURNEY – On Earth-2, the team races to find Zoom’s lair and asks for help from the most unexpected source. Meanwhile, back on Earth-1, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) rushes to perfect Velocity-9 so that Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) can stop the Geomancer (guest star Adam Stafford). J.J. Makaro directed the episode with story by Todd Helbing & Aaron Helbing and teleplay by David Kob (F214). Original airdate 2/16/16.

Sounds like
we could finally get to see Jay use superspeed as The Flash, even if only temporarily, to fight a metahuman villain, which is long overdue, unless they just do what they did last time they messed with the Velocity formula and just tease us with it instead.

My biggest question for Jay has always been, how the HELL does he keep his helmet from flying off his head? :D
