Terminator Salvation: Box Office Prediction/Discussion

I swear by this:

Christian Bale NEVER EVER goes onto late night shows. I don't recall him ever being on Jay Leno, Letterman, or the wonderful Conan O'Brien.

Nothing for Batman Begins, The Machinist, Rescue Dawn, The Prestiage, The Dark Knight, or Terminator. Seriously.

And to me, that hurts the movie because you need a persona behind the marketing and best way to do it is through the actors involved. And late night shows is a classic (and accessible) to do so.

I think the main reason why this movie isnt doing so good on boxoffice is because there're no Arnold in the movie. (Excluding cameo of course)
Terminator 3 had at least Arnold in it, that's why it at least earned $150 million.

He's made alot of morning show appearances Today, GMA, The Early Show, but yeah no Late Night since Kilborn.

^Personally I dont think talk shows make that much difference, plenty of movies that have flopped have had talk show appearences, I think the movie itself is what is making the box office lacklustre. I havent seen it yet, but its getting no word of mouth at all.

it really looks like there is no interest in the terminator franchise anymore.

movie is out here where i life. they interviewed some people who came out of the theater. 8 out of 10 said that it was not good or just ''meeeh''. 2 of them said they can not whait for the sequel.

it's not that there's no interest in the franchise, there's definitley more than enough people out there that LOVE this story but just didn't like the way the last 2 films and tv show were executed

having a petite fembot protecting the future leader of mankind (TV Show) was Mistake #2

*NOTE* Didn't the tv show ALSO screw up the timeline if I recall correctly in season 1 (the first episode took place in 1999, the second scene after the opening credits have Sarah and John talking about how it's only been 2 years since the Cyberdyne incident) or am I mistaken?

the final mistake I don't agree with but MANY people feel that having Skynet physically aware of both Reese and Connor at the begining of Salvation was Mistake #3



obviously my point being, if they would make LESS FLAWS, the franchise would make MORE MONEY

i also think that people like Terminator as a movie series, but they don't LOVE it. That's the vibe I'm getting. Heck, even though I like the first two movies, I can't say that they're in my top ten despite being classics.

Well The Terminator is actually my favorite sci-fi movie. Horror and sci-fi are my favorite genres when done correctly and this movie blended them perfectly. It's one of those movies I've been watching all my life that I never get tired of. There was a point where Robocop, Commando, Terminator, Aliens & 48 Hours were the only movies that were seen in my house in the late 80's.


That movie has a special place to me. T2 I saw twice in theatres as a kid I loved it so much I had the toys and everything but I don't rank it too high. Great action movie but the original suits my tastes more. Overall yeah I do enjoy the series I even enjoyed T3 and the tv show but this movie was just very irritating to sit through. I personally could never sit through the whole thing again and personally hope the franchise just dies altogether. It's for the better.

I doubt anyone but big fans noticed the age change in T3, and the series was pretty much considered not canon from the start and wasnt watched by that many people I believe.

I just think if Salvation would have been good, with a good script and far better director, it would be making more money.

TOTALLY not the vibe I get, everyone I know LOVES the first two, both of which are in my top 5 movies ever, lots of people in England tend to love them, as soon as they are mentioned everyone perks up.

I went to see Salvation again last night, but It still left me feeling sad over how they managed to take a once amazing story, and turn into another blockbuster.

The original Terminator movie was a low budget horror sci fi movie with a wonderful horror and terrifying music score.

T2 was bigger budget, but the essence of the original remained, and the soundtrack score was quite incredible. Not once did you hear stupid orchestras playing upbeat melodies over what was a sci fi masterpiece.

T3 and now Salvation are simply watered down versions of the original story, and simply have no heart or meaning in them. People just don't care when they watch T3 and Salvation.

And Terminator was never meant to be a "Franchise".
It was simply a single movie made in 1984 with no intention of being a "franchise".

Jim Cameron only made the sequel because he felt after years had gone by, that he needed to finish the story, and technology had progessed significantly to allow him to create his vision.

There was no need for T3 or Salvation.

If you are going to do something then do it properly like Cameron did.
Have you ever wondered why all of his film can be rewatched a thousand times and you never get sick of them??
Its because he works hard at making each movie perfect.

I rewatched The Abyss the other day, and was amazed at how great the quality is and how it stands up today. A work of art.

I doub't McG or Mostow really "cared" abou the story. They simply thought, ok, lets make a "franchise", and ****e this story till its bled dry, with disregard for what came before.

They did it to Alien, even Predator, and now Terminator.

Please stop! We have had enough of mediocre, rushed scripts, and generic action.

Surely there is someone out there with new ideas, and new visions to create something exciting? and not just ****e out a story which didn't need telling in the first place?

And because this is a box office thread I'd like to say that Salvation did an estimated 2.53mil on friday, narrowly beating out Star Trek which did an estimated 2.52mil. Star Trek is likely to overtake it and Drag Me to Hell over the entire weekend.

Stay tunned for the weekend estimates to see what happens. Even then places could change with the final numbers on monday afternoon.

i think T2 was a summer blockbuster.
