Nothing since the trailer? We got a huge-ass magazine bit devoted to TDKR and Batman related things including new pics from the film, plus a new Bane pic with comments from Nolan, plus two merchandise posters.

Okay three stills fair enough but there was little to nothing new in the article itself. I don't want them revealing anything huge but there is nothing wrong with hints and teasers. If Empire suddenly done a TDKR spread but it consisted of 1 new still but all info we pretty much already knew would that still count as news?

Yes.

I wanna check out Nolan fans but I am a tad reluctant. Is it as totalitarian as Jett's Batman-on-film forums? Can I express negativity without getting crucified?

OT but this showed up on my twitter feed https://***********/ropeofsilicon/statuses/204329946867441664

They're even hyping these movies before they're even fully shot!

Desperate for the TDKR hype machine to start :(

Didn't we get the first TDKR trailer way before it was shot?

I think those magazine features are more for fanboys then anything. Second, you can't seriously be counting cinemaCon footage you yourself concede is for the insiders as "marketing". Lastly, the prologue was seen by a minority.

It's still marketing.

I don't go there that much, but you'll get crucified in a somewhat different manner by a few people. Maybe a regular there knows better, though.

Again, 2 trailers and a prologue, how exactly does the marketing suck for this film?
3 Trailers
Prologue
2 Entertainment Weekly features
1 Empire feature
1 Total Film feature
CinemaCon footage shown to exhibitors/industry folk

This and this.

We got the teaser ONE YEAR out, barely into the production of the film. Add in all the unintentional marketing with all the spy pics..that's LOADS of exposure.

Again, why waste it for right now? Let Avengers die down alittle then advertise like mad for 6 weeks-ish. Seriously, some of you have been spoiled with all that's been seen so far.

The general public know thus film is coming out, a massive 6 week global alert beats overdoing it early.

It wouldn't if that was any other film but this is being labelled as the big event of the year and the finale to a very successful franchise and WB just seems to be doing nothing. I guess it is fine for WB to let everyone else build the hype and talk about it but there has been so many days on here where it has just been "oh nothing today". I mean we've had nothing since the trailer and a loooooong gap before that.

Look at Hunger Games, that was barely promoted until maybe two weeks before release, then all the fangirls gave it the biggest midnight opening ever, all the word of mouth and great reviews made it into one of the most successful films of the year.

It's easy for a film like Avengers to reveal all it's money shots in all the trailers and tv spots, because there are so many eye catching, humour filled, crowd drawing moments to show people, it's an easy film to market. TDK was even easier, all you needed to do was show Heath Ledger chew up scenery for 30 seconds and you have yourself a hit, It isn't that easy for TDKR, where it's two main draws will be critical reception and the TDK/Batman brand, the best time for this film to really show its cards will be in the month of July which allows WB to really make their event film feel like one. Show it too early and you are just burning people out on footage or having it swallowed up by Avengers, Spider-man, GI joe, Prometheus, Men in Black etc considering this is probably the least crowd friendly film of the lot.

Nolan fans is only fun if you are a huge, well – Nolan fan. :)

It's still marketing.

All three of those aforementioned pieces of marketing were targeted to people who already decided to see the film long ago. None of them mean much in the context of the general public at large. What's good marketing to get get the GA's notice? The sports tie-ins. Which you neglected to mention.

OMFG

The movie is still 2 months away! I'm done trying to tell you the marketing is perfectly fine right now.

**shoots self**

Best post iv read in along time. I don't see what's wrong with the marketing besides fanboys getting greedy and wanting to spoil it for themselves. You are going to see the film so the marketing has worked on you. GA are different.

Well, the marketing is going to get big in June. That's when WB plans to release the hounds and it's the perfect time to do it.

I think WB is smart to wait for Avengers buzz to calm down before they ramp up marketing for TDKR.

I wonder just how badly TDKR will swallow TASM. I think of TDKR as the shark in jaws and TASM as the first victim; the hippy girl.

it wont 'swallow' spidey.... spidey has some good WoM right now...it also has 4th of july, and nearly 3 weeks before TDKR... so Spidey will get its share of $$$

Could have fooled me.
