the 89th Annual Academy Awards - Part 1

The envelopes are sealed until the moment they are opened on stage

I know but I mean there should be an example of what format they should expect the envelope to be. Like, will the envelope only have the title of the film? Or would the producers/actors be listed as well? Will it only have the winner there or everyone nominated with just the winner circled out or something? That should be a standard thing the producers should prepare the presenters for.

Who knew there was an official Twitter account for Airbud?

Come on what? Have some respect for older people and legendary actors. A mistake was made, one that the person who handed them the wrong envelope is responsible for. it doesn't excuse the producer's behavior towards Betty in the slightest.
Well if we are going to talk about respecting a legendary actor, perhaps you should realize his name is Warren Beatty, not Betty? I mean, you have wrote it multiple times.

He did nothing wrong to Beatty. He took charge where others, including Beatty wouldn't.

I doubt they actually practice opening the envelope. They probably only rehearse whatever inane banter the writers have written.

Probably as simple as using a mock up from last year's awards .

Going after my spelling now, oooh take me to the burn unit :funny:

Probably but that's something that really should be practiced as well. Especially how to open an envelope. A lot of presenters fumble with that. :funny:

Yup. Or any stupid title/name would do. Just so they know what to expect and how to read it.

If you think the trash producer did nothing wrong you are just as bad sorry to tell you this but it's true.

It seems they do have envelopes and cards:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...ide-oscar-rehearsals-with-usa-today/81035968/

As Star Wars' Daisy Ridley walks onstage with Dev Patel to prep the documentary feature presentation, she scans the seat cards scattered throughout the theater. Patel rips open the envelope and announces the winner — for this rehearsal, anyway: Amy, Asif Kapadia and James Gay-Rees' portrait of late singer Amy Winehouse.

I am not the one based around the age of status of an actor for why someone was rude. That would be you. So it is rather ironic.

I loved how there were so many newbies winning this year.

I can kind of understand Violas speech, i think she meant celebrating life as in adapting someones life for everyone to enjoy, something like that. To me it wasn't a dig at doctors or anything.

Viola's speech was essentially about the fact that film is a celebration and exploration of life and all aspects of it. Movies aren't just about superheroes, real-life heroes, or amazing and flashy stories of people doing/accomplishing things that most of us only dream of. Movies also tell the stories of people who are down-and-out, struggling to get by, dreaming of bigger and better things that will never happen for them, etc.

"Fences" is a prime example of that, as it is about people whose lives did not go as they planned/dreamed. Life isn't always pretty, but we have to make the best of what we have.

They didn't read what they were handed. That is the entire issue. Why are you skipping that bit?

They are elderly, retired film stars. Some of that print is pretty small and they weren't wearing glasses. The category print was the smallest on the card, so who knows if they could SEE what the smaller print even said. They were live on TV as well. I put more blame on Dunaway for just going with it and reading the card. Beatty was obviously trying to figure out what to do. It all happened so fast in a couple of seconds. It's not like they had time to figure out what to do. Simple, excusable human error.

Yeah, the "trash producer" -- who had just been humiliated in front of the entire world after giving an emotional and seemingly heartfelt acceptance speech for an award he did not win -- was totally in the wrong for wanting to clarify to the befuddled audience (in the heat of the moment) that this mix-up was not a joke or bit and that Moonlight had really won the award, since nobody else had jumped on the mic at that point to properly speak up and make that clarification. Even then, he still was a class act and graciously handed off the award to the true winners, instead of acting as pissed off and embarrassed as he probably felt in that moment.

But, man, what a *****ebag! Am I right???

There was absolutely no reason to treat Beatty the way he did. None.

And here's something new - https://***********/erickohn/status/836268182369247234

I understand less now than I did before.

He took a card from Beatty's hand and held it up for the camera and audience to see, to confirm what had happened..

I hope Beatty is somehow able to recover from such awful abuse.

LOL I just noticed that there were like 3 more hands wanting to grab the envelope and show it to the camera too. :funny: Everyone clearly wanted to see and/or show to the camera that Moonlight won. They just want to cut to the chase, stop the confusion and the slow mo drama going on onstage and give Moonlight the attention it deserves as the winner.

Ugh @ that gif. Just shows that producer is trash. No one can deny it bc it is true. I was SHOCKED and still am at his rude behaviour. what is scary is that he didn't mind doing that to warren infront of millions of people, imagine if there were no cameras around! warren could have been killed if that producer lashed out. It is possible to die from one hit to the head you know. he showed his true colors. Anyway, i am glad it's all over. I dont think they will make the same mistake next year. I wasn't a huge fan of any nominees this year so wasnt rooting for anyone in particular. BTW sia was at the after party! :) They should have televised that instead lololol

This moment wasn't supposed to be about Warren Beatty in the first place.

It was supposed to be about MOONLIGHT and its cast and crew.

The LLL producer was clearly trying to create some excitement about the situation for the Moonlight crew. He was also probably really disappointed and trying to hide it, but also trying to let them have their moment, which they had essentially been robbed of previously.

He's basically grabbing and holding up the card saying Moonlight in a triumphant fashion to generate some excitement about the event for the Moonlight team.

I think he handled the situation with some class, considering what had just happened. Good thing we can't hear what he says a few seconds before, when they told him LA LA LAND hadn't won.

Now, "We lost, by the way, but...you know..." wasn't as classy, but is understandable.
