I think there are going to be two mainstream possibilities this year. One is Logan, the other is War for the Planet of the Apes.
Logan no. Apes maybe.

Yeah. It doesn't surprise me that they fell back into their old habit of sticking their noses up a mainstream films. You almost forget that Inception, District 9, and Avatar are Best Picture nominees. Feels like a lifetime ago.
Wouldn't it be interesting if they had a retroactive Bes Picture category? Like a "Best of Class" where they revisit films from 10 years ago to see which ones have stood the test of time? You'd think The Dark Knight would be a shoe-in to win the Class of 2008.
Even at 5 years you can see what's holding up.
Anyone watch, or have any interest in watching The Artist lately?
The only Best Picture winner in the last ten years I'd watch if I saw it was on TV would probably be No Country for Old Men.

I figured ten years would be a good "marinating" period, but five years might also suffice.Even at 5 years you can see what's holding up.

lol if anything it's Logan yes, Apes no.
Rogue One didn't get nominated for Costumes or Hair and Make Up ??
And it's only real competition in either was Star Trek Beyond.
That Academy is truly mad.
As to that incident with Best Picture. Can someone please explain why Jordan Horowitz is being praised as a "class act" and "good sportsman"? He wasn't remotely classy at all.
I can understand him getting angry and mortified that he went on stage in front of millions of people, made a speech and then discovered it was not his win. Even the fact that he treated Beatty so rudely is forgivable - he is only human and embarrassment can make us all react badly - but I simply do not understand the praise. He did not behave like a "class act" or a "good sportsman". He was rude and snotty.
And why on earth did The Washington Post call him "the truth teller we need right now"? What truth? There was no cover up - Beatty was coming to the microphone to explain the confusion and Horowitz butted in. When Kimmell (who did not "look like he wanted to be anywhere else" as has been claimed) tried to defuse the aggression he was simply shouted over by Horowitz.
Horowitz reaction was that of a bully and he is getting applauded for it.
If Deadpool didn't get a Best Picture nomination despite being nominated by the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Writers Guild, then I don't think Logan has a chance. I personally didn't think Deadpool deserved an Oscar nod, but the fact that it was nominated by all three of those guilds and STILL came up short just goes to show how adverse the Academy is towards superhero films.
It's just amazing how many snubs there have been in some of the major categories over the years. Either nominees that didn't get the win, or films/actors that were not even nominated at all.
And of course, the Academy could always swallow their pride and have a Best Genre Film category if they want a cheap way to boost ratings.

When it comes to winners in the last 10 years I'll do No Country and Birdman.
No way, aside from Lion which has a bit mediocre critical reception in Metacritic, all the BP nominees starring POC were very well received and therefore I very much doubt it was a POC-acting-movie-nominations quota that they were complying with to please haters. This was the lowest ranked Oscars because the Academy gave in to the pressure last year with #oscarssowhite.
Deadpool isn't the the first film to get nominated by both guilds and not get a nomination. If Deadpool didn't get a Best Picture nomination despite being nominated by the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Writers Guild, then I don't think Logan has a chance.
