Part of me thinks this is BS and ET maybe misinterpreted her saying she's bummed MJ won't have a large role until 3.

I mean, they shot those cafe scenes and scenes for the Rhino sequence featuring MJ. I doubt they'd cut what might have been a substantial fx's scene. (the car drops and surrounding wreckage)

yeah i thought that and maybe they had a plot for her which they cut out and just filmed her stuff as an introduction, but if you read what she says...

"At press time, EW learned that her story line is being bumped from on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off introducing Mary Jane until the next film."

now either someone misquoted her or Shailene just said it wrong, but it does sound like she may not be introduced into this film

Look, they just want Gwen to have her space. We have Harry in this. Peter, Gwen, Harry. That'll be cool. Holding MJ until the third makes sense right now. I personally do wanna see more of just Peter and Gwen.

Everything in life is about having a plan. Honestly I'd be afraid if they didn't announce those dates, and didn't have a "plan" mapped out for this franchise. I wanted to see MJ too, but despite how people felt about the first movie (I thought it great) they're not incompetent. Can't wait to see these new Spider-Man movies.

well, sdcc is approaching and shailene has a movie coming out in august that she'll have to promote, surely she and marc will be asked about it and we can have confirmation one way or the other.

Is it that MJ only had five minutes screen time in the film so they decided to move her? That'd be explanatory.

Or is it that they started filming without a plan and are just writing it as they go? This seems to be a scary reality now because of this. You can't just have a supporting character, delete the character out of the blue and expect everything to still flow smoothly unless that character really had no relevance to begin with and was just shoe-horned into a couple of scenes for the fans.

I'm just hoping it was that her scenes were unimportant and got cut because of that rather than this really being something that could impact the rest of the film if they went along not knowing what they're doing (which could be the case).

hopefully it's kept. I mean.... Mj first appeared pretty much in the same issue as Rhino did... it was a nice nod giving a scene with the 2 of them

I'm just hoping it was that her scenes were unimportant and got because of that rather than this really being something that could impact the rest of the film if they went along not knowing what they're doing (which could be the case).

its possible if gwen was gonna be killed off this film her role would have been bigger in TASM3 but if they pushed gwens death back to 3rd then they may introduce MJ in to TASM3

i still believe sony want to keep Emma stone for the 3 films she signed for

Hopefully this doesn't mess up any scenes that would've been worthwhile. Not comparing it to Dr. Ratha in any way, but an extra scene he was in would've helped the film dearly. That meeting between MJ and Gwen at Peter's house could've been a good one.

if she dies in 2, with no MJ ill be kinda annoyed. It was a great opportunity to finally include both MJ and Gwen in scenes together... (ignoring the stupid dinner scene in sm3)

I kind of like it in the sense that it won't look like Gwen dies then Peter just jumps on the next best thing, but I still think she should be acknowledged a bit before her and Peter get together.

Gwen's death or possible death has absolutely nothing to do with this.

It has everything to do with having a screenplay, starting work on that screenplay, then going in and randomly deleting scenes from it. THAT is bound to have an impact on the rest of the script and the rest of the film. The only way it couldn't is if MJ's role was very small and she had no reason to be in there other than some random girl in the background that just so happens to be MJ. And if that's all MJ was, then I'm also worried about how the rest of the script is written because a change that big would impact most films - especially with a character of that magnitude.

As said, Gwen's death has absolutely nothing to do with this. It's having a screenplay, starting to film, then out of the blue tossing scenes out. That tells me that either the screenplay is bad or that they're just improvising as they go along (which never equates a good film). I'm just really hoping MJ's role was small or this quote was misdirected. And if the role is that small, why include her? Which also doesn't bode that well for the rest of the screenplay because if a character like MJ is there just for the hell of it -- what does that say about the other characters? This just, any way you spin it, I can't see good from this. As a writer, I know that with this kind of character - that shouldn't be the case and that something (if it was well written) will be lost in the process unless they find some way to patch over it with re-shooting to possibly intensive re-shooting which would then say that something likely doesn't work for the film if they had to do that still. Films have ditched one or two small characters in the past, but nowhere near supporting role like I imagined MJ would be. Just at this point hoping for the best but not really expecting it.

it's definitely possible they might recast her, but i wonder if it's likely? by the time tasm3 comes out both divergent (and maybe even its sequel) and the fault in our stars will have come out, movies with great potential for success since they already have loyal fanbases, plus her indie movies that the critics always love, would sony risk dropping such potentially big star?

doubt it, id imagine they contracted Shailene for 2 or 3 films and if they recast it would be a dick move, you can't recast someone because feedback from SOME fans about her looks, that would make everyone involved look bad

and i still say this webb cast Shailene for a reason, and webb did really well with TASM casting so i have faith Shailene will be back

they won't drop Shailene, there is no reason too, they had a chance to hire a different girl to play MJ but they chose Shailene, sony won't make a dick move like that over some silly fan feedback

the only way they will recast is if Shailene can't do it or problems with getting her to do TASM3

If there's any truth to the article....it just prove what many of us have said, that Gwen will not die in this film.....sorry guys who "WAS" so adamant that she would.
