How do you know that it'll make sense though? It could be an isolated incident.

I can use the same argument against you, how are you so sure that it won't make sense? It's futile to argue about this. Wait until we see the movie and if you still have a problem, then you can complain all you want

The CGI complaints are invalid. It's unfinished in the trailers, just be patient.

Ok here's my take...

I've rewatched the scene and I don't think Peter fully trusts Harry at this point, and that's why he sounds and is acting a little different and not very "Peter-like". He's putting on this overly cool, I don't care attitude which we know is an act.

"My dad left a briefcase, that's all i got, a briefcase full of junk, whateva, I dunno, I try not to think about it..."

Of course that's not true, it wasn't junk and he thinks about it all the time. But he's not going to tell Harry...he hasn't seen this guy in ages, and his dad is Norman Osborn!

When you rewatch the scene and don't view it as a purely as a catching up with an old bud scene, it makes more sense why Peter is acting like that

It's just that Garfield's always been very meticulous with Peter's speech and mannerisms, everything little thing he does has a reason, Marc even commented on that many times, everything down to little hand, finger movements. That's why I don't think it was an oops moment on Garfield's part. It it was, and if we caught it, I'm sure Marc would've caught it and made him redo the scene. They do soooo many takes. That's why I don't think it was an inconsistency thing.

Nice analysis, but I doubt it goes that deep. Sometimes what's on screen is what you get. Occam's razor and all that. I personally have no issue with the accent, it's about the last thing that was on mind.

Btw, this forum is being way kinder to these clips than two years ago, huh? I remember when the doorman clip came out, some guys pounced on it like a freaking puma. The direction was this, the dialogue was that, yadda yadda yadda. Funnily enough, it went by unused, even though it was totally harmless and not that bad at all.

But it doesn't really make any sense considering that he talks normally with Harry in other scenes, and given the proposed context of this scene, the met previously at what I'm guessing is the Osborn manor where they reintroduce themselves to each other, and Peter seems to be talking just find. He just sounds like he's slurring his words here or something.

I honestly don't know. But as i've mentioned we are watching this scene out of context. We still don't know what's going on between Peter and Harry, but my guess is that when Peter finds out that Oscorp has been spying on him he decides not to trust Harry and not to reveal his secrets to him. He just tries to give a vibe that a typical New Yorker would give to show to Harry that nothing interesting is going on with his life(?). This is all speculation of course.

The accent did put me off too, but I don't make a big deal about it because there is so much great things I've seen so far.

I think some arguments to explain the accent change are pretty far fetched though. I honestly think it's simply an inconsistent. I don't like it, because it doesn't feel like Peter, but rather someone trying to sound cool. But as I said, why complain about such a small thing, when there is a great interaction between Peter and Harry going on in that exact same scene?

Teekay, i feel like you are the only one right now that can spell three words and calm the whole board.

We kneel before you.

I didnt like the parents subplot because it fundamentally undermined one of the unique aspects of Peter Parkers character: he was just a regular kid from Queens. He wasnt a long lost prince, or an alien, or a demi-god, or a billionaires son. He wasnt a legacy kid. He was from humble origins. He only had what his aunt and uncle taught him, the powers he stumbled into, and his own ingenuity. It made him the quintessential Marvel hero - not to mention an analog for the American Dream - and a stark contrast with some of their other heavy hitters as well as the DC heroes. Now it's like: well of course he's a science genius, his dad was too.

It also smacks of nepotism, given its his inroad to working with Dr. Connors. He stole some other kid's spot after all, and wouldve likely gotten the boot if it werent for his dad's previous relationships (not to mention his genius genes and his formula).

All that said, they made a big deal about his parents and the formula and the conspiracy surrounding their deaths. Dropping/ignoring it was never in the cards. They have to see it through now.

You speak wisely.

I haven't watched the footage but the bold sounds like my kind of logic.

There has to be a reason for Peter's accent or attitude in this scene. Like someone said it before, if we can notice it, Webb sure as hell did.

Guys I think everyone needs to calm down about Peter's accent. The accent is noticeable but like others said Peter saying 'man' and things like that is probably the way he will interact with Harry. I am not that cool but I say things like that round my close friends all the time. Also don't forget Harry is pretty much a playboy in this film so Peter is probably trying to impress his new friend by speaking similar to him. I bet you in the film Peter will only speak like that as Spider-Man and when he is round Harry.

I really do think he's putting on a cool, tough guy act in front of Harry, even the words he chooses to use. He doesn't say my parent's left me, it's my parent's "dumped" me, those are pretty harsh words. It's like he's trying to pretend that's he's this tough kid who doesn't give a crap...

This ! That makes it all the more authentic from a social standpoint. I think it is a way of showing how far Peter has come socially after becoming Spider-Man. His confidence is clearly boosted and that is coming across in spades.

Geez, this whole conversation about Peter's accent is really annoying.

so we have
Venom in his eye
How did he get into the car
The coffee in the coffee cup
Peter's accent

Andrew is British, and considering he is a fairly new actor, he's going to slip here and there. But for the most part, this isn't such a big deal. His accent sounds off for a matter of seconds over a few lines in a minute long clip.

And people are really still complaining about the "dubstep" music?

My favorite is the "coffee in the coffee cup" nothing against Naite22, I just find it funny lol.
