Just the way he describes it, especially in that THR video, I'm not really sure who else he could be referring to. I can't think of another "brother-sister act" relating to the Avengers that he would have loved as a kid.

Plus SW and QS seem right up his alley, a conflicted formerly villainous woman who has trouble controlling her powers and a haughty prick who you're certain is a straight up villain until he turns around and does something not villainous.

It's about time we had some pricks on the big screen in the MCU anyway.

Question is, who could play such a prick? I think it would be good if they got some European actor in the part, just to give him that added smug prickishness.

But do you think they can make sense without Magneto? I mean, you'd know better than I would. I just think that "conflicted" you're talking about makes so much more sense when they were raised to hate the race that they are attempting to save.

They weren't raised by Magneto in the comics either, though. (And him being their father was a "twist" storyline after they had been around for twenty years or so)

That said, they could always just say their father was a terrorist and not get too into the specifics of his identity beyond that

i don't think their lineage is as important as them both being mutants. the larger question would be whether marvel can get away with labeling them mutants. if so, they could just be two orphans turned mutant terrorists. the conflict is over them being from a mutant-related radical group of some sort.

Heroes never used the word "mutant" throughout its run. I'm sure Marvel can find another way of referring to the same thing without actually using that word.

With Scarlet Witch, they might want to go the full-on magic route anyway.

it'd be too messy; having Pietro with the x-gene and Wanda a non-mutant sorceress. it makes the uninitiated think too much. to use your example of Heroes, it'd be like explaining only the cheerleader's powers as magic.

I just thought of Dr. Strange and his sis. /shrugs. Not in an Avengers movie, but an important relationship.

Oh also, if we are thinking "brother/sister act" is figurative, then maybe Hulk and She-Hulk. Since Joss seemed so fond of Hulk back in Phase 1.

I don't think them not being called mutants but still having powers isn't a big deal. Just say they were in some sort of accident like Bruce or were just born with the powers like Thor.

I didn't mean having Pietro with an X-gene and Wanda a sorceress. I meant that if they want to go the route of having Wanda's powers deriving from magic, then they might not go the mutant route with either of them.

He mentioned them when asked about new characters though, so I imagine both characters will be new to the series

Oh, I'm quite positive he's referring to P and W. In fact, I feel that the only way we won't see them in Avengers 2 is:

a. if draft #1 is denied by the powers that be
or
b. its a total and complete red herring

Could they possibly be introduced as Masters of Evil then flip sides and help the Avengers once Thanos comes to town?

(disclaimer: My personal theory for Avengers2 is that Masters of Evil will be an immediate threat in act1, then the real threat of Thanos is revealed at the end of act2 and all of act3 so that's what I'm working off lol)

plus I'd really love see like Cap vs Abom Hulk vs Red Skull and stuff like that, heroes going against other movies villains

I'd be really interested to see how they adapt Wanda and Pietro's costumes to the big screen (if he is, in fact, talking about them, which I'm still not sold on).

Probably something like this:

Minus the incest, of course

So wait what exactly was said about the twins? Linky? I thought it was just some cbm rumor crap.

If that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. :) Of all people, I thought you'd see the non-Maximoffs side of this thing. I can't believe he'd let something so obvious slip this early. I'm not saying it's definitely not them, but I'd start looking elsewhere first for a guy/girl combo.

Maybe...Mar'vell and Carol Danvers?

Brother-sister act from back in the day? C'mon. The Maximoffs are practically one step removed from the Founders. They're more core Avenger than even Hawkeye and Widow. *Gotta* be Wanda & Pietro. Looking for other "kinda sorta" combos are just grasping at straws --- Joss was being pretty obvious here.

But yeah, I agree with the talk about them possibly starting off as villains, as they did historically. He hasn't officially said they're on the team yet, just that they're in the script.

I just have no idea how you explain their back stories if not as mutants. And I'm not one for unexplained origins. I hope it's just a red herring and I hope its Ant-Man/Wasp and not the Maximoffs.

The Maximoffs didn't become mutants until many years into their respective runs. They began simply as a brother-sister super team on the Avengers; the Magneto lineage wasn't added until much later. I think true magic would be the easiest explanation, considering it's already right there in her name (Scarlet Witch). Quicksilver's power is harder to explain, but whatever source they choose to give Wanda's power is almost certainly going to be what powers Pietro, too. So....magic speedster?

The Maximoffs did indeed start off as mutants, on Magneto's Brotherhood. They became Avengers a little later

I hope they don't have costumes like that. That looks like more generic SHIELD agent costume crap we've been getting for Hawkeye, Falcon and everyone else who isn't IM, Cap, Thor or Hulk, with just a few adjustments.

If they're going to start off as villains, why should they have uniforms similar to SHIELD's anyway? I hope Wanda is fully in red in either her classic costume or gypsy outfit, complete with a cape. It's about time we have some other characters who look like full-on comic book characters.

Perhaps (and I promise this is my last hypothesis) Joss is being reeeeally clever and, in an effort to avoid spoiling Ant-Man casting rumors, they are actually casting Hank and Jan, who would be appearing first in Avengers 2.
