Age of Ultron The Avengers 2! The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 47

Overall, most critiques seem to say it's more convoluted/overstuffed with characters and at times incoherent, but the character stuff digs deeper in more satisfying ways. I've been concerned for the longest time that introducing the twins may've been a misstep amidst Ultron/Vision/new subplots (as awesome as they seem), so I guess we'll see.

I'm all about character, tone, & theme though, so any complex or simplistic plotting isn't too much of an issue as long as exposition and junk overwhelms.

Yeah. TBH, I'm either getting a little burnt out on anything not Captain America or new MCU stuff or not really feeling the excitement over these reactions, so... I have no idea how I will react to this. I have loved all the footage so far, but I just really hope Joss didn't over exert himself this time.

I mean besides not coming back for IW 1 and 2.

I can honestly say I am more excited for Daredevil tomorrow!

Also, what's with the tweet that says there is a post credits scene?

I suppose I'll sit through the credits regardless though, given that there's a lot of talented names involved in this that deserve to at least be glanced over.

By all means @Marvel is still firing on all cylinders - was fun to geek out to Avengers: Age of Ultron - a highly entertaining follow-up!

Eric Eisenberg @eeisenberg
Big love for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Tons of fun, awesome action, and fantastic performances from all

Drew Taylor @DrewTailored
#AvengersAgeOfUltron is darker, weirder and more emotional than the original. It's also the thrill ride to beat this summer.

Avengers: Age of Ultron: An entire "phase" in Soylent brick form. More nerd plot, more spectacle, more sarcasm. Feeling good dizzy.

Avengers 2 is way more fun and great than the trailers let on.

@Avengers #AgeOfUltron might be the most true to the comic movie ever. So many images taken right off the page that made me faint with joy.

No spoilers, but biggest surprises: Thor is hilarious and Scarlet Witch kicks so much ass. Rest of the #Avengers ain't too shabby, either.

Are you people seeing different reactions than I am? Is anything other than absolute adoration considered negative nowadays? AoU is going to be viewed through a microscope by most critics. It's not like the first film where there were few expectations. A sequel to a film that makes $1.5 billion is going to be dissected more. You're going to need thicker skins to get through these next few weeks, because god forbid someone says something truly negative.

Suzanne you can't bring up that post credit scene/mid credit scene and not point us in the direction of it! Or post it in spoilers in the spoiler thread! I beg of you!

I'm not looking for the mid-credits spoiler on Twitter... I just saw one of my tweeps say someone mentioned it. I didn't want to be spoiled on it myself.

It should show up if you search for Avengers related things on Twitter.

ETA: sorry Broseph LOL!! I honestly wasn't trying to stir things up.... But wanted people to know it may be floating out there LOL!

I'm actually considering just staying here for now, in this thread if there won't be spoilers posted.

Haha, I get a similar read on Whedon that I did on Favs after he did IM2 (check out the commentary, dude is burnt, haha). Like "I had a blast coming back, but it's time for hibernation everybody, see you in five years."

I've had trepidations about this movie being a bit too ambitious, but it appears the quality is still bangin' and there'll be plenty of thrills ahead. This is certainly no TDW situation where reactions were very lukewarm.

I'm no Hawkeye fantatic by any stretch of the imagination, although Fraction's Hawkeye is of course one of my all time faves, but if Renner has essentially been given the ball to run with in this movie, then it confirms how brilliantly Whedon still refuses to play by the "rules" by constantly pandering to people and giving us more hulk and cap and stark. I'm excited to say the least.

Although I can predict that more people are going to complain about the tonal shift, I learned ages ago with the dark knight hype that every sequel should essentially be their own monster, not a mere continuation of what we already got.

AoU not as 'fun' as the first one you say? I have no issues with that at all.

I searched for it on twitter and google, nothing. All I found was people saying "wait, i heard it was good" "wait I heard it was disappointing?"

Tonal shifts are fine, it's whether or not the movie suffers under the weight of plot/character convolutedness...

And suddenly, CIVIL WAR and INFINITY WAR seem to be a lot more problematic... Oy.

I couldn't find anything either bleh

Chillax Suz. You never struck me as someone who gets so worried but I guess not haha.

Then you're not searching hard enough? Type "Age of Ultron" on Twitter, most of the top results are reactions.

Whedon must have felt bad for giving Hawkeye the shaft in the first AVENGERS, because he has such a strong storyline in AGE OF ULTRON.

It could be Avengers, Age of Ultron, Avengers Age of Ultron, #Avengersageofultron, #AvengersEvent #Avengers....

It may pop up the more conversations take place. Sorry I can't be more specific. TBH, i don't think it was a movie person, it might have been a family blogger who spilled, LOL!

What? That is a BIIIIIGGGGG Leap you are taking there.

Yeah to be honest, that's the thing that plagues most of these movies, as cbms (as we all know too well) are the most prone to feeling overstuffed and undercooked, especially sequels where the pressure is on to make everything bigger.

Hate to be a damper on things, but I wouldn't put TOO much stock into these first reactions, they tend to always be overly positive even for the bad films.

wonder what that means

I see no issues with following the thoughts of reviewers that tend to like or dislike the same kinds of movies that you like and dislike, and if they hype it, then I know its going to be good.

This is one of the earliest reactions tonight, I've read it several times, and I'm still not sure what the hell it's saying. It's like trying to decode RDJ's fast-paced mumbling of hip jargon in his interviews. :hehe:
