Why no discussion in the ratings thread? What's wrong with people just bullet pointing why they gave the movie that rating?

Because it fills up the topic and the topic winds up being closed before everyone can vote in the poll and poll results can't be carried over to another topic so another poll winds up being made. It's always a mess.

So I'm going to be watching this tomorrow and I just want to find out if there's going to be a post credits scene to go with the mid credits one, because my sisters don't really want to sit through 10 minutes of credits for nothing.

According to Joss Whedon, Kevin Feige, and the people who've already seen the film; there is not post-credit scene, only a mid-credit scene.

There are as many reviews saying its better than Avengers as there are saying its not that good but still fun, even more perhaps. You might need to remember also that movies fare very differently depending on the country they are reviewed in. The same movie might get bad reviews in one country and very good in another, so be cautious. The diferences are not necesarily that extreme, but each culture has a point of view and perhaps fixates on different things. Each country also has theyre own prejudice and history with genres. The internet makes the world look small, but sometimes we tend to forget that its actually quite big.

France has been one of the toughest countries with both Serenity and Avengers. The reviews were good, but far more subdued and critical than in other countries. If there has been some consensus for now both in france and germany is that it is a very busy movie with a lot of plot, characters and super fast pace. Some say it works perfectly despite the fact it shouldnt, others think its overambition is a defect.

Nice post. Tastes vary across the world and reviews will differ for this reason. Can't wait to read the UK reviews though.

As fans we look for different things to reviewers anyway. If your favourite character gets a great role in a poor movie you will be happy (and you will be unhappy if they get treated badly in a great movie!).

I'd be very surprised if this gets a better overall reaction than Avengers 1, not because it's a lesser movie (I doubt that it will be) but because the tone and the relative complexity will turn off a lot of the casuals that enjoyed the first film. (which had that perfect mixture of humour and simplicity to go with it's hardcore comic book base)

The favorite character factor is definitely a big determinant in my enjoyment of movies like these :woot:

Like Talisman said, as soon as a thread fills up and Thread Manager shuts it down to start a new one, any poll attached to the thread is closed forever (and we mods can't do anything about it). So the only way to keep the poll open for everyone to vote is to put it in a thread without discussion.

we've reached spot #23:

I seem to remember saying there will be 30 tv spots by the time the film is released and some one told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Hmmmm:sly:

This board is surprisingly dead for a film that is days away from release.

I can't talk for anyone else but personally I get less interested in talking about it the closer it gets (tomorrow for me). I haven't had as big of a need to entertain myself with snippets of the movie and speculations the last couple of weeks since the movie is almost here and the ideal remains to go in as fresh as possible. An added bonus is that me stepping away from that has lowered my hype/expectations a tad, which can only be good as expectations have no positive effects on a movie, but plenty of negative ones.

The only thing that remains for me is to watch it and then discuss.

4.5 out of 5 for that review. Why is everyone so focused on the negative?

Seeing a lot of glowing reviews for AOU, 5 stars, one saying its even better the 2nd time etc.

It's going to be tough beating Titanic (no chance for Avatar IMO). To do this:

Domestic: To beat Titanic it needs to make approx $35m extra. Easy. For Avatar it $137m - who knows?

International: To beat Titanic AoU needs to make an addition $668m. It's a staggering $1270m for Avatar.

Reviews will be very important in Europe. No idea how reviews affect Australia and southeast Asia box office.

Will be fun watching the box office unfold over the coming weeks :yay:

Yeah.....but I don't count re-releases. I think Titanic came in at about $600M DOM and $1.2B OS after it's first run (that's from memory so I'm not 100% sure). I count TA as #2 DOM. If it gets a full re-release like Titanic did, then I'll start comparing those numbers.

Question.....why is it that movies in the US are considered "Domestic" and everything else "Overseas". Those seem like really bad words. First off, I don't know of any seas between California and Mexico, Central America, etc. Secondly, who decided that "Domestic" was the US? If I lived in UK, I don't think I'd consider domestic box office to be synonymous with US box office.

Do you folks have a different name for it? If I didn't know better, I'd say some people consider the US the center of the planet...... :woot:

Just checked....Box Office Mojo uses "Foreign" and "Domestic". I guess that's better if you're sitting in the US. Glad to have my Canadian brothers and sisters as part of the posse. :woo:

I'm surprised people are surprised by criticism. No movie is perfect guys. And to me the darker/more serious tone is a definite plus.
