Benedict Cumberbatch as The Joker could be an inspired choice.

Everytime I consider whether Hartnett would be right for a role, I remember that he's turned down every superhero role he was offered. I'm not sure this is his ideal film genre.

I definitely don't want to see the comics "failthfully" adapted like that. I prefer how Nolan's team constructed something original inspired by multiple comic sources.

Straight-up adaptations of the comics are what the direct to DVD animated films are for.

Fair enough.

As for Hartnett. I don't think he fits many hero roles. I think he can pull off a Stoic, Broody type.

I wonder if Hartnett would do it, I know he turned down Superman (I think he'd have been brilliant as Supes and I read that his screen test was supposed to be amazing). Its not like he's had a glittering career.

I like him, but I can't picture Hartnett as Batman. He would be better as Aquaman IMO.

I seriously wonder if the animated Batman: Year One wasn't Bryan Cranston's "screentest". Certainly wouldn't be a bad way to test out an actor.

Two of my choices: Michael Fassbender as Batman and Bryan Cranston as Jim Gordon. I believe Fassbender could easily play Wayne's playboy charm, yet portray an emptiness to Bruce. Bruce would throw parties and take on the playboy persona to compensate for the effect the death of his parents left on him and the way he views things, similar to Jay Gatsby in "The Great Gatsby", in a sense. I also believe that he would help make Batman a real character in himself. And Cranston requires no explanation.

For once, I agree with Rockstar (actually, I have no beef with him other than the Amy Adams thing). Fassbender isn't going to play Batman because he's Magneto. Bond still might be a possibility sometime down the road, but I doubt that too.

How about Spartacus as Batman, Liam Mcintyre. He's actually pretty versatile.

personally i don't want a reboot. I'd rather see bruce die, and have JGL's john blake follow in his footsteps as Nightwing, then as batman. bruce dying could be a good reason to get the justice league thing going too. a clark kent cameo covering bruce's death for the daily planet would be the balls in this.

Agreed 100%.

Fassbenders taken. Try again.

Just because he's Magneto doesn't mean he can't be Batman. There's no law that prohibits it from happening.

It's common sense. He's starring in the FC sequel. It was just announced. His role is supposed to be heavier than before, given the critical popularity of his last performance.

In Rockstar's world there are three constants - Amy Adams is a disgusting old hag, actors who are openly gay cannot play superheroes and Michael Fassbender entered into some sort of indentured servitude agreement with the X-Men First Class producers.

Not really. I'd like to see Matt Bomer play a superhero. If not Batman than Captain Marvel/Shazam! Fassbinder is at least a possibilty for Bats. Amy Adams is just mediocre

Michael Fassbender's an awesome actor but he hasn't quite mastered hiding his Irish accent enough for me. I want Ryan Gosling as the next Batman and Bryan Cranston as a live-action Jim Gordon.

What if the First Class sequel bombs?

Wouldn't that leave Fassbender open for the Batman reboot?

I gotta say, I don't see it...
Fassbender was awesome in X:FC (don't get me wrong) great actor, but, I don't get people wanting him for batman

if he was willing to screen test for the role, then its may not be that he's not interested in the genre in general, just didn't like the direction or script of that movie (which if it was for superman returns, I don't blame him)

I read he turned it down cause Bret Ratner tild him it'd take up 10 years of his life and he didn't fancy that.

Actors shouldn't allow Brett Ratner to take up 10 minutes of their lives, let alone 10 years.

I'm getting a little tired of seeing Fassbender for everything. Frankly, he is awesome in First Class, but let's not go overboard.
