The Batman Reboot Casting Thread

Just make it a straight Drive reunion. Gosling as Batman, Cranston as Gordon and Ron Perlman as Bullock. Perfect.

But if you had Ron Perlman on the GCPD, you wouldn't need Batman at all.

I don't see Gosling doing the whole multi-picture-franchise action-star thing. Would be cool though.

I really would like to see Rian Johnson take the reigns of the franchise. His debut, Brick, was a dark little noir gem. Very original. The Brothers Bloom was equally inventive, but more colorful, more fun. His next is a sci-fi action thriller with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and the great Jeff Daniels (who would make a great Gordon in the next round of Bat-films). He also directed Bryan Cranston in an episode of Breaking Bad, so, it's possible he could pull Cranston into the mix as well.

Rian Johnson is a talented filmmaker in need of a franchise to call his own. Honestly, he's at a place in his career very similar to where Nolan was when he was given Begins.

Here. Check out the trailer for Brick.

I love Ryan Gossling (no homo), he's the coolest guy there is, but he's wrong for Batman. Too soft spoken, New York-ish accent, blonde, etc.

I'm still sticking with my choices for Batman: Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jensen Ackles.

All things that can be changed through acting and physical alterations. Dismissal based on surface value traits isn't so smart for those with talents that exceed just 'good'. Make no mistake, the likes of Gosling is going to either be a huge mega-star or an indie powerhouse. Possibly both. He'd be an inspired choice and fitting successor. He's cut from the same exact cloth as Bale, while retaining that energetic youth, dashing looks, and flawless physique. There's more good in casting Gosling than there is bad.

To follow up an Oscar-winner with these types of TV actors would be a genuine disgrace. :o

At the very least nab someone who has the potential to be a true acting phenom if they haven't broken through yet. Sorta like where Bale was at when he got cast.

He doesn't fit the character whatsoever. How is that "inspired" casting? Ryan would make a much better GL or Flash.

JDM and Jensen are fantastic actors, and I think if given the proper project, can make it real big. Jensen especially since he's still young.

Not giving him a chance just because he hasn't been nominated for an Oscar is stupid. If the talent is there, why not?

Because he's arguably the best talent in his age bracket and can literally do anything. His range is remarkable, and you can find traces of all facets of Batman's character in at least one of his roles. I haven't seen one concrete fact going against Ryan for something like this. The guy's filmography speaks volumes.

I said nothing of Oscar nominations, so I don't know where you got that assumption. I called them TV actors because that's how far their talent is really suitable for; fine for the small screen.

Just like Eddie Dean, I'll do a "Rule 63" cast of Nolan's Batman:

Abbie Cornish as Brenda Wayne / Batwoman
Nelauktas.jpg

Maggie Smith as Alice Pennyworth
images

Michelle Pfeiffer as Jane Gordon
images

Noomi Rapace as The Joker
images

Jake Gyllenhaal as Ronald Dawes
images

Michelle Williams as Hayley Dent / Two Face
images

Angela Bassett as Lucy Fox
images

Tilda Swinton as Ra'sa al Ghul
images

Helena Bonham Carter as Jennifer Crane / Scarecrow
images

Michael Fassbender as Catman / Sylvester Kyle

I also would cast Gina Carano as Bane, but that would be too ridiculous...

Gosling is a superb talent, and you wouldn't hear me complaining if he was cast.

His hair would be a simple dye job, and he could pack on a few more pounds in muscle. The only thing that really throws me with him is his slim facial structure. I'm having a hard time picturing him in the cowl. Anyone up for a manip?

Still, I wouldn't count on it happening. Gosling is cut from a similar cloth to Daniel Day-Lewis. He has expressed little-to-no desire to branch out into mainstream Hollywood films. He seems perfectly content with his independent film career.

That would work for a live-action "Year One" adaptation...

Bale has a slim structure as well. These masks are always conformed specifically to the actor's face, so I don't think it would be an issue a tall.

He's committed to Logan's Run, which will be Refn's first major blockbuster if it gets made. Gosling seems to gravitate towards a director and script rather than the budget or genre. I don't see him considering Batman unless WB gets someone of Nolan's caliber to helm the franchise.

While I think plenty of these choices of faces I never saw before interesting and could work very well, some shouldn't be cast for their selected roles

The new reboot needs to lose the feel of a reboot, so already used villains -especially dead ones- should not be used (i.e Ras AlGhul, Two-Face), and keep the realistic feel they were aiming for in the Nolan movies to some extent. No origin, the origin given in Begins is near perfect, and with Year One animated release and all those retelling of his origin the audience need to be spared of that

That's a good cast Axelbratoski but I wouldn't cast Abby as Batman/woman. She's too pretty. I would have chosen Michelle Rodriguez because she has Batman's physique in female form and a badass voice.

Love your decision for Alfred.

No need in restricting themselves again. Defeats the purpose of a reboot if you're going to confine yourself to a road Nolan has paved.

To some degree, not fully. It needs to give a good feel so people can be absorbed into it easier, not repelled by "Oh man, another reboot"

I have to disagree. Her being "too pretty" shouldn't be an issue because Bruce Wayne portray as himself as a millionaire playboy/womanizer. He is basically like if JFK Jr. was actually a masked vigilante. He is rich and good looking, so he is always in the spotlight and his money and jet-setting ways justify him being "out of the country" all of the time when Batman is on the shelf with a broken back or something.

What for? We're not talking about Superman or the New Gods, we're talking about a dude who dresses up like a bat. He doesn't need a $300 million dollar budget to be awesome

Depends on what you're reading. If they tried to bring the Arkham City game to live in full detail, it would easily be one of the highest budgeted films, precisely because its aesthetic would have to be built from the ground up. The scale alone would be a monumental task for any filmmaker.

That is a convincing argument.

I better consider this further in the Dome of Understanding
