The Batman Reboot Casting Thread

Why Batman: Year One? That's basically what Batman Begins was. No point in retreading territory such as that.

Also why not go somewhere different like Batman Beyond?
Well it would be even more pointless to tread on Nolan's Bat Trilogy by adding to it. There are quite a few of us who would really like to see some elements of Batman Begins changed.
Besides, it's not like we're casting a real movie. Someone at WB might or might not check these boards to see what fans actually want but you don't really think any of this really matters to hollywood, do you? No.
So consider this thread kinda like a fantasy football thing. We're just giving our opinions on what we would like to see if someone ever decides to do Batman some real justice.
With that said, I'm of the mind that a well done live action tv show is a better way to go than another movie franchise conundrum. I'm not the only one on this thread or on the internet for that matter who feels this way. The idea is catching on. Think about it. This way there is more room and more time to explore alot more of Bruce's back story and training to help establish other characters in the future. Season one should very much be year one. I mean if you're going to reboot Batman as a tv series how could you not do a better adaptation of Year One? Also it can be a direct comics influenced Batman. Not just someone's loose interpretation. It doesn't have to be stuck in Nolan's ultra realism, which would allow for alot more of Batman's villains. The Joker can be permawhite again and I dare say even creepier than Ledger's Joker.
This idea also gives more room to have Batman be a loner for good while before Robin is introduced. If done very seriously, Robin doesn't have to change the tone and mood of the show. I just see endless possibilities with the idea of a live action tv series. So why not adapt Year One? Hell it doesn't have to be a direct adaptation of Year One. There can be alot of elements from Legends Of The Dark Knight added in to keep it fresh.

If we're talking about a hypothetical television series, then I'd rather they adapt The Man Who Falls. Show us Bruce's brief time with the FBI, his training with Master Kirigi in Korea, his apprenticeship under Henri Ducard in Paris, his time with Willie Doggett and the hunt for Tom Woodley, and his experience with the Native American shaman in Alaska.

That's what I'm thinking. Which is why I mentioned mixing Year One with Legends of the Dark Knight's Shaman storyline. But why not mix it all up?
For the pilot do a two parter. He has to become Batman within those two episodes or it might be more difficult for audiences to get on board. Alot of people complained about Bruce not being Batman for the first half of Batman Begins. The first two parter would be a mix of Year One and Shaman. Have the second two parter be The Man Who Falls. The first part will be his training which would carry on into the second part which would build up in pace and mood to a very climactic scene of him "falling".
The show would be taken directly from comic stories, which would in fact be very different from any other live action Batman project before.

Too bad a Batman TV series will never happen.

Batman is WB's only successful superhero movie franchise. Movie division will never give it up.

I know. Still fun to fantasize though.

"The Batman" on AMC :awesome::up:.

I'd rather Batman-verse be kept away from live action TV for now. Don't need another BIRDS OF PREY.

I'd rather see something like Batman Beyond because it is solid material to start with and we've never seen anything like it in live action before. Also by all the toys and new comics, even the skins in Arkham City, people definitely respond to this material. To me there is something very interesting about Bruce Wayne training the new generation of Batman.

I don't think they'll ever bring the Batman Beyond stuff to the big screen. It would require involvement from Timm and crew, who have publically said they don't want to do DC live action projects.

Nolan as a producer wouldn't go for it either. It's not his style of film.

I'd love if they released a mini series on tv that bridges the gap between two films

A Blade Runner-esque future isn't Nolan's style of film?

Batman Beyond would be the anthesis of Nolan's approach.

Nolan grounded Batman in modern and gritty reality, with some level of logic behind everything.

Batman Beyond is fantastic sci-fi. Flying cars, futuristic tech, holograms, alien-like clothing, super-powered villians etc.

General audiences have already gotten tired of Batman movies, people are already getting sick of all the reboots and remakes. A live action tv series is the logical way to go to keep Batman popular and introduce new fans to generations of great Batman lore.

The Dark Knight's billion dollar boxoffice says otherwise.

Batman on film is more profitable and popular now than it's ever been.

Yeah, it's sort of funny how Batman has done such a 180 in the public eye. The character and the franchise went from the biggest joke of the genre after B&R to not only the most popular and profitable superhero franchise, but one of the most popular and profitable franchises, period. TDKR is so hyped right now, people are acting like it will be the last movie you'll ever need to see in your life, lol.

Batman is almost the only superhero that works on film to general audiences it would seem. Works enough that people spent a billion dollars on the last go 'round. Marvel hasn't gotten there and most likely never will. They've pretty much tapped out their heavy hitters either in-house with Avengers characters or outsourced via FOX and other studios.

Has any one mentioned Joel Edgerton?

I like Edgerton but I really can't see him as Bruce Wayne. Green Arrow, maybe.

Edgerton is like a good looking Conan O'brien.

I'd be down for a Batman Beyond. A fresh take of Batman for the general audience would be nice.

I throw in a weird thing here now... out of nowhere. Liam Aiken could have been a good Robin.
And you are not allowed to comment on that ;)

Edgerton is great, and I'd be cool with him as Batman, though he looks more like a bruiser than a rich, handsome playboy. My ideal casting for him would be Henry McCoy. He's tough and athletic, but gentle and intelligent. I don't see that happening anytime soon, though.

Has anyone mentioned Ben Barnes for Bruce Wayne. He's 31 years old, 6'1, and a great actor. A real rising star.

If I saw Ben Barnes in a Batman suit, I'd probably laugh.

He comes off like a delicate flower, he isn't rugged or manly enough for Batman.

The #1 perfect choice for Green Arrow.

Shame there are no other DC Superheroes in the movies from now on besides Batman and Superman.
