The Amazing Spider-Man The Box Office Thread

The film being Native 3D will not have any bearing on the Box Office, the general public will not care if it's native or converted. Those set on seeing it in 3D will regardless of how it was shot.

it ABSOLUTELY has a bearing, if WOM of mouth is telling people not to bother seeing the movie in 3D because the 3D is rubbish (clash of the titans - converted 3D) then the GA wont bother watching that movie in 3D, however if WOM of mouth is telling people they HAVE to see the movie in 3D or don't bother going (avatar/tron - native 3D) then that is what the GA will do.

I have no figures in front of me but I'm pretty sure the figures for native 3D are higher than the figures for converted 3D (obviously avatar is excluded to make it a fair comparison).

The highest grossing 3D film that isn't Avatar is Alice, which was converted. I assume they're filming in 'real' 3D, so this argument is probably moot anyway.

alice was on the back of avatar with people (myself included) hungry for the '3D' experience. the GA are far more weary now but if friends are telling you need to see the movie in 3D (WOM), you'll see the movie in 3D, at least most people will.

The GA won't care if it is native 3D. All they will care about is if the 3D is really, really good. As someone said, Alice's 3D was pretty good and even Avatar used some conversion. The films with bad 3D that use conversion have bad 3D because they rushed the conversion to get their movie out on time.

Not only that, but some natively shot films have not had impressive 3D...for example, Tron.

that is definately true, the audience only care if it's 'GOOD' 3D but seeing as they are using cutting edge sony cameras, for a sony tentpole movie you have to assume the 3D WILL be good.

look at spidey himself, he has a costume that is specifically made for 3D that will be colour corrected in post.

what's funny is after nolan up and leaves after the 3rd bat movie any suggestions that batman 4/batman reboot with take a hit at the box office will be hypocritically laughed off by the bat fans.

As a Bat-Fan, I wouldn't agree with that statement. I'll definitely be a bit wary of what will happen after he leaves, because Nolan is very quickly rising to be one of the "IT" directors in Hollywood. TDK and Inception guaranteed that his name will be able to used as major marketing. Being able to put "From the Director of The Dark Knight and Inception" in your ads is a big plus.

However, I think it really all depends on how well the last movie fared in terms of the following film's success. BB was a very good film, but the stigma of Batman and Robin sill effected it, after 8 years.

Now, I do believe that the hate for SM3 is blown out of proportion by fans, and that the general public did not hate SM3 NEARLY as much as the comic fan community did, but it does have a general negative connotation, and that will be a factor. And the other thing that's going to hurt is that there's a general negative split for fans of Spider-man in terms of the general audience. You're going to have the group of people who really enjoyed the old series who will be mad that they've rebooted, and the people who didn't like SM3 who are going to be more willing to wait for the DVD instead of shelling out 12bucks to see another Spidey-movie in the theatre.

with the advent of home cinema you could say that about any movie to be honest. I think the key thing will be the trailer, if the trailer comes out and it's 'meh' the spidey is in trouble but if the trailer blows people away I think spidey's stock is still high enough for people to want to see it on the big screen.

look at the TF3 teaser, now I'm not going to watch that movie but I beat any money the movie is massive purely because it has a great teaser and people want to see spectacle on the big screen especially during the summer. it's what the cinema was invented for.

imagine this;
the spidey trailer is mind blowing
the spidey movie scores high on sites like rottentomato and meta critic

that being the case why WOULDN'T people want to see it on the big screen?

I do think that if the trailer's good then people would want to see it. However, BB got great reviews, and I thought it had pretty good trailers, and while it did solid, it didn't do great. Of course, B&R was much, MUCH, worse then SM3.

like I said, spidey's stock is still high enough to ensure success with a good trailer/movie but not so high (as it was with SM2) that it will be a success regardless of the quality of the movie. sony has to bring it's 'A' game, if they don't they're ****ed as there is too much competition for spidey to ride on the name 'spider-man' alone.

Those same people mad about the reboot will still go see this new movie and those who hated sm3 will see this movie because, it has nothing to do with Raimi and his cast.

Many people weren't even aware that there was a new batman film to begin with.

Bingo!

And that's why I have faith this movie will own. Great cast, the movie appears to be taking a more careful approach in developing this film and plenty of post production time. Sony may have done some stupid things in the past but I think they've got their heads firmly on their shoulders for this one.

SM3 started filming in January 2006 and finished in July 2006 for their May release date. That is nearly 11 months for post production and we all know how that movie turned out. I love a film to have enough time to blossom but that doesn't always = quality.

Doesn't matter when spidey 3 started filming and how long they had for post production because the film was doomed and garbage from the get go. Unless post production equated to them refilming the entire movie with an entirely different and better script, SM3 was always going to suck.

So there goes your point about production time.

Not at all. If the script is effed from the start, no amount of production time can save it. TASM thus far from the bits and pieces we know seems in better "health" than what the case was for sm3.

SM2 worked on effects for two years so the long production time argument is valid but the truth is SM3 were mainly script related as the script was changed too late in the day to do it justice.

Arad: "Listen everyone, because not everyone wants a reboot, because they prefer a crying witless all about Mary Jane Spider-Man, I'm going to say something really realy dumb, and that is...."

Shut up Avi. It's a reboot.

I can't believe so many people on here have read the script! I'm jealous.

A movie.

First Class is a loose prequel or a pseudo reboot...whatever you want to call it I don't care. What is obvious is that they are not following continuity and Vaughn is doing his own thing to hopefully deliver a good movie to start a new trilogy loosely based on the previous films.

Summer 2012 is going to be one nauseating ****-measuring contest between Batman and Spider-man fans...

Wouldn't that confuse the audience in one way or another?
