The best part of that picture is that the 3D version is lagging to the 2D one.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see that my theater had one 2D showing on the largest screen on the opening night. Usually it's all 3D so I tend to have to watch it on some of the smaller ones as I think 3D makes movies worse.

Generally it is awful but 3D can be good with some movies. I'll try to see this in 2D though.

The wait is almost over for the new Sony/Marvel film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is finally swinging into theaters this week. Fandango revealed today that the buzz for the new Marvel film is so high that it has outpaced DC’s Wonder Woman on ticket sales for this weekend. In addition to that, the Fanticipation buzz indicator has Spider-Man: Homecoming at 97 out of 100 points.

According to a survey that Fandango moviegoers took, 89% are stoked for the new Spider-Man film because of Tom Holland and his performance as a character in high school. The survey also revealed that 87% have seen multiple Spidey films on the big screen, hence their interest for Homecoming.

We also learned that 86% of the moviegoers that took the survey are fans of Robert Downey Jr. while 70% of them are Michael Keaton fans. Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis spoke about the big buzz for the new Spider-Man franchise in an official statement.

“The strong advance ticket sales for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ represent a great start for Spidey’s main entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With terrific action set-pieces and some of the funniest scenes in any Marvel movie, ‘Homecoming’ is likely to see repeat viewing business throughout the summer.”

ALright, guys. We're less than 1.25 hours away from the movie. Let's get it to blow expectations out of the water and show Spider-Man is in good and better hands with Marvel Studios.

Having seen the movie I'm not sure that's true!

Presales right now aren't so great. Doubt this does better then Wonder Woman, which is good sure, but it shows how much Sony has ruined this franchise over the years. It could do so much better, alas.

This movie is too front loaded to make an billion or reaching GOTG2

I can see it ending up between 750M-850M

If you mean SMH won't have a better domestic total than WW, you may be right but its opening weekend and world wide total should exceed what we see for WW.

If this doesn't make more than the ASM or ASM2, will it be considered a failure? The budget is reportedly smaller so at least they have a better chance at making their money back.

The actual sales on MT are failing short of WW, take of that what you may.

Oh it'll definitely do better then WW worldwide, I don't doubt that.

Gitesh:

#SpiderManHomecoming* opening wknd advance sales on @Fandango currently running above pace of #WonderWoman* at same point of sales cycle.

How much did WW make OW? Also like how much above is Spider-Man running at the same point?

Not saying it will be this high but remember Jurassic World blew past the tracking. For that matter WW did too as it was only tracking at 85M. My point is this may be well past 100m, it was tracking at 100m even before the reviews.

It's going to top 103M.

That's to be expected, I think. On one hand, this is the third iteration of the character in the last 15 years, on the other hand, he's now part of the MCU banner which has reliably produced crowd pleasing hits, whereas Wonder Woman was coming off of three films in the DCEU that produced mixed reactions at best. Fewer people will be gunshy about watching Spidey opening weekend.

$115-120 million is my completely unsubstantiated guess.

I want this movie to break 1 billion, it deserves every penny it's going to make. Bravo Sony and Marvel, bravo.

I think it's got a legit chance. A bad Spider-man film made almost as much as WW did globally, so I think it's got a shot.

I say if it doesn't even make ASM2 money... I would consider it a failure.

Especially how bad the reviews for that movie had been as opposed to Homecoming which is getting great ones.

I voted $700-800 but I can see it getting the same as GOTG2. Though Spider-Man is easily a top 3 super hero. I think Planet of the Apes will hurt it.

Wonder Woman made $103 million.

Oh ok I didn't remember I thought it was around 100 million but wasn't sure.

It fells like it is harder to perdect movies or something. Not only did Jurassic world make like 50-70 million more I think then a lot of people though but also movies like Dead pool made more then people though and WW like you said and also yes I know people thought star wars 7 would make a lot but most predections I think were right around 200 million yet it made around 250.

I agree planet of the apes will hurt it I have more hype for Apes my self and I still think being a 2nd reboot and coming off the last 3 movies is going to hurt it even with these great reviews. Batman begins when it came out didn't do great in box office and I am sure people would say it deserved to make more then it did but suffered because of the past batman movies leading up to that.

Looks like SM: HC could do over $13 million in Thursday previews after a strong showing on the West Coast.

Interesting but hard to really know what that means for its OW. Preview night has like gotten bigger over the years. That number is more then Spider-Man 3 made and Spider-Man 3 made like what 150 OW? I don't think any one has it making more then that even though its preview night was higher.
