The Avengers The Captain America/Chris Evans Thread - Part 2

Steve Rogers has always been an artist in the comics. He supported himself as a commercial artist during the 70s run of his book, at least. His chosen profession mirrored his creators, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, two New York based artists who served in the Army during World War II. Cap was their superhero avatar, in a sense.

Yup, Byrne even came up with the masterstroke of Cap being able to conceil his shield in his artists portfolio case.

This deleted scene and alternate opening seem like they're from a different movie. A much better one at that.

The Steve Rogers/Captain America scene would have added a richness and depth to the character, yes. But the alternate opening was unnecessary, deceptive and badly acted on Smulders' part. It was too stilted and would have hobbled the film right out of the gate by slowing the pace down to a crawl. The framing device was unneeded anyway. It's best to start off in the midst of the action and hit the ground running instead of watching third-raters blather on about things that would be revealed later in the film.

The 'Man out of time' sequence is good and works well on its own merits but I think cutting it was absolutely the right call. Not only would it have been a bullet in the knee of pacing and momentum, it doesn't really offer anything which isn't seen in the rest of the film. His loneliness and sense of irrelevance is represented in other places, just less overtly. I think it's a fairly good example of the scene working better in a vacuum than in the film. The bookends probably seemed a better idea on paper.

Its really not that great a deleted scene. It lacks gravitas in a sense, just kind of feels like Evans is going through the motions a bit.

Cutting it was probably the right decision. Although, if they hadn't cut it, they could have probably made it fit into the film a little better if the majority of this were AFTER Fury tries to recruit Captain America.

OKAY I'm putting this in here. I've told you all about the Avengers Young readers novel and that it included the script for the man out of time that was deleated from the movie.

Glad you liked it! Now to find the deleted scene lol

NICE they are very close thanks CK!

I swear the best thing about that was Stan Lee XD

I hope they cover some of that in Winter Soldier.

I don't think it will be as depressing since when we last saw him at the end of The Avengers . Steve Seemed happy as he rode of into this brave new world he now found himself apart of.

Yeah, their window for exploring the tragic and depressing aspect of the "Man out of time" premise seems to have closed, which is why I really wish that scene was left in. I'm sure it will be explored in CA:TWS as well, but probably with more levity than pathos.

Marvel put Phil Coulson's Captain America cards on the Avengers Second Screen ap. The backs of the cards look like the images were actually produced during WWII; they're copyright 1951 Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. and could be from that period, typos and all. But the images on the fronts of six cards are promotional pictures from CA:TFA, drawn by Ryan Meinerding. The others look like comic book panels but I can't place them.

I posted these on the Clark Gregg thread, but they belong here, too.

So was that incorrectly transcribed or does the actual book say 'uncompfertably'?

It doesn't HAVE to be depressing. I can see him reffer to himself having difficulty after he awoke and flash back to those scenes. It just seems to be a waste of great footage.

I just noticed that during the argument between all of them on the Helicarrier, Cap tells Tony to "Show some respect". Loved that.

These are cool but I hate how they make the wings in the illustrations look extra goofy sticking out the way they do.

I love image 10, thanks for the post. BTW could you post the rest of the Second Screen ap features that are devoted to Captain America please?
