The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Damn, I hate this period when critics have seen the movie but are still under embargo. As someone who wants the movie to be good and well received, this stuff makes me super anxious haha.

I'm with you on that.
that said, I had my doubts with snyder continuing after MOS. I don't with Gunn.
Gunn has yet to make a film that failed or one that I didnt like. I doubt this will be his first failure.

This film will have a few negative reviews, because some made their minds up beforehand.
And then you have the losers who want to be first and edgy.
No way in he11 that was an accidental Leaked review.
It did what it was supposed to do, it got him clicks.
If he had said, it's the best film since Godfather, he wouldn't have received near the attention, and that's a fact.

It's like I used to tell my daughter when she was young and we would be planning a big vacation to Disney world 6 months to a year out.
She would be like I can't stand the wait, I wish it would hurry up and get here.

I would look at her and say the anticipation is half the fun, and it will be here and be over with before you know it.

Global box office is in agreement with box office theory. I will just say this if it hits 20 million in early previews it will easily make $100 million over the weekend.

Jeff Snieder changes with the wind. He said the other day that box office is impossible to track and also said he heard Superman was good.
I saw a reply post from EmpireCity on X where he said that as of now people should pump the brakes on the extreme higher end of these projections. That said, everyone is aware tickets could spike next week just prior to release, especially if the reviews are great. Either way, I'd bet it clears 120 m opening pretty safe.

The critics reviews are important, but I'm most interested in the average joe and Jane's reactions.
They ( we) are the ones who will make or break this film.
Irregardless, it will have a big ow. Will it have legs tho. That's the big question.

It will open over $100M for sure. It's just a matter by how much.

You cannot convince me that Superman, with this much intrigue and marketing behind it, is going to make just a tad more than Thunderbolts and BNW.

The Superman brand alone carries a lot of weight. This doesn't count all the other factors in this film's favor.

The quality of the film is ultimately going to determine it's legs, just as it did with MOS and BVS.

Variety is also shading the film

You could be forgiven for writing off “Heads of State.” But then, you would miss a movie that’s no sillier than “Superman” and a lot more entertaining (a comparison worth making, since both adhere to a mythical sense of heroism).

I still remember the lead up to BvS.
Not many thought it would make less than a billion, and the ones that did thought it would make at least 900 mill.
Gone are the days of a film making money just because so and so character is headlining it.

It's gonna have a pretty big OW no matter what.
The question is, the following weekend(s).
It's gotta have staying power, so it HAS to be good to great.

The worst case.
It's bad to fair.
If it is, It will drop 65/70% it's 2nd weekend, and be pretty much done with.
It will be lucky to make 200 mill in the U.S., if that

Best case. it's good to great.
it won't drop much its 2nd weekend, and it will have another big b.o. take.
If that happens, then 350 to 400 mill in the U.S. will be very possible.

Of course, it could be fair to almost good, and land somewhere in the middle, ie, Around 200/300 in the u.s. for it's final haul.

Worst case, a bad film. 450/500 WW.

Best case. A good to great film. 750/800 WW.

In the middle. 600/650 WW.

So In other words. I have no freaking idea what's gonna happen. None.
We just have to wait for reactions and see it for ourselves.

I did not have the second DC Cinematic universe attempt starting out with yet another misfire on my bingo card.

I remember it in that I was quite uninterested in it. I enjoyed MOS more than I thought I would , despite its shortcomings, and found the BVS trailer to be choke full with Snyder's worst instincts. So I wasn't really anticipating it much. I found the movie to be okay, but not very cohesive. Found the Ultimate Edition to be better, and somewhere in Zack Snyder's Justice League might be his best movie thus far. If only he had the self control to cut it down to 3 or 3 and ½ hours.

No excuse if it fails. Gunn literally had all the time in the world to get this just right.
I don't mind some humor but I don't want it to be a comedy.

I'm not really worried yet, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous.

It's a movie. You either like it or don't like it (personally).

Anything else is just bandwagon jumping.

I like The Flash. It's got some severe fx problems, it's not "GREAT," but I like it.

I like (only) the first Venom* movie. It's a dumb movie, but I like it.

* I HATE HATE HATE the 2nd Venom movie. I didn't care much about the 3rd one, even though I gotta say I was somewhat (a little tiny little bit) moved by the finale.

Couldn't fare less about whether someone will agree with me on that.
