The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises - Home Video (Blu-Ray/DVD) Release Thread - Part 2

Here's another extended scene from the script..(btw im reading it now and the Miranda-Fox scene is about 30 seconds)..

ALFRED (cont’d)
Don’t worry, Master Wayne. Takes a
little time to get back into the
swing of things.
Wayne dials his phone.
FOX (O.S.)
This is Fox.
WAYNE
Remember those ’unusual requests’ I
used to make?
FOX (O.S.)
I knew it!
Up front, Alfred listens. Concerned.
INT. BATCAVE - DAY
Wayne pushes a button on a hi-tech carbon fiber brace
strapped to his good knee - the brace tones. As Wayne starts
moving his knee, bending, stretching, Alfred puts down a
Thermos.

ALFRED
You’ve got the wrong leg, sir.
WAYNE
You start with the good limb so it
learns your optimum muscle
patterns.
Wayne swaps the brace to his bad knee. Puts his weight on it
- the knee bends, kicks. He sits again. Cautious
.
Now we tighten it up.
Wayne gingerly pushes a button - the brace starts to shrink
tight to his leg, digging in. Wayne grits his teeth.

I totally get why these scenes are edited, it's a process with films. But i would have loved to see these extended scenes. Even this one...which we know was shot as well. A bit more of that Bruce rage would have been cool to see.

ALFRED
And what if, to spare you
pain...I’d burned that letter?
Wayne stares at Alfred, shocked.
WAYNE
Why would you say such a thing?
ALFRED
Because I have to make you
understand.
WAYNE
You’re lying.
ALFRED
Because you are as precious to me
as you were to your own mother and
father and I swore to them that I
would protect you and I haven’t.
WAYNE
You’re lying!
ALFRED
I’ve never lied to you. Except when
I burned Rachel’s letter.
Wayne turns on the old man, furious.
WAYNE
How dare you use Rachel to stop me!

Little things like that, in this scene especially, when it doesnt interfere with music/flow. Would be great for a director's cut. There's a bunch of scenes like this.

I do wonder though if those missing/shortened scenes we are seeing in the script were actually shot (and just cut) or were they not completely shot at all? I mean some of these scenes were improvised by the actors (like the "I really like your place" and the "what a lovely voice" lines) so there will obviously be deviations from the shooting script.

Yeah but most of what im talking about and showing from the script were shot, we know this because a lot of it is in the trailers or photo stills.

Back to reading through the script, incase people haven't read it. Here's another extended scene that was cut for time. It was probably shot because of photos like this where he's running across the street into Selina's apartment.

WAYNE
(thinks)
You know what? Drop me in Old
Town...

EXT. SELINA’S BUILDING, OLD TOWN, GOTHAM - DAY

Blake drops Wayne off.

WAYNE
Don’t wait. I’ll get a cab.
BLAKE
You got money?
WAYNE
(smiles, sheepish)
Actually, no.
Blake hands him some bills, watches him cross the street.
The radio squawks. Blake reacts - drives off.

Another one. Would have LOVED to have seen this in the film, but they probably didn't shoot it..

INT. GREAT ROOM, WAYNE MANOR - NIGHT
Miranda is sleeping, wrapped in the blanket. Wayne studies
her for a moment, then slips out...
INT. BATCAVE - MOMENTS LATER
Wayne moves to the Batsuit. Picks up the cowl.
EXT. SKIES ABOVE GOTHAM - NIGHT
The Bat roars towards downtown. Batman kills the lights and
main engines - the Bat quietly autorotates into the canyons.

Random thought that occurred to me today...whenever 4K starts to really take off, I'm sure we'll be seeing another re-release. Since at point they'd have to do new transfers, I'm betting that's when we'll get proper BB and TDK transfers that are based on the true original transfer.

Why does everyone think TDKR had a tremendous amount of footage cut out? I've read the script, book, and checked. At most, we have a few seconds, maybe even three minutes at most of dialogue cut out, Foley's death, Wayne entering the party w/ rose petals falling down, Bruce training a little bit in the prison, and Bane's backstory.

At most, 6 minutes of footage. At most.

Doesn't Nolan do most of his cutting at the script level though? Think I remember him saying that years ago. I believe it was said the script for TDKR was the equivalent of a 4 hour movie at one point. I believe it. You wonder how it might have turned out if they split it into two films at 2 hours for each film.

At one point yes, but the script that most of us have read is the final script. And there's proof that each of those scenes were shot because of official stills + trailer shots that didnt end up in the film.

But man, id do anything to see that original 4 hour story. Just to get my hands on that actual draft...id pay a lot of money..

Cool beans, hopefully by the time it comes out I'll already have a giant 4K tv.

I always thought Batman Begins could use a new transfer so I hope the results are good.

Hopefully TDK gets a transfer that accurately reflects the colors of the theater run. Finally.

Dunkirk is getting great reactions on twiiter. Hopefully it doesn't end up like Interstellar.
