For reference:Its like before MCu gets to reboot something, the last movie for the ip had to be a total disaster. Its really reminiscent of the Fant4stic failure. While tasm2 don't look much of a failure compare to this. Just, yikes the domestic box office numbers of Fant4stic and Dark PhoeniX aren't far from each other. It won't even outgross the original Blade!
Anyway, Mib International is going to outgross it this weekend and as eXpected, its already out of the top ten after just 3 weekends!
Elektra (spinoff of Daredevil): $24,409,722
Blade Trinity: $52,411,906
Punisher War Zone (reboot): $8,050,977
Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance (requel): $51,774,002
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (sequel of the reboot): $202,853,933
Fant4stic (reboot): $56,117,548
Dark PhoeniX (retreading of X3): $63,576,878
The only film (before the rights reverted to Marvel) that wasn't as disastrous as those films is Hulk 2003, though it wasn't also a beloved and successful film. And I guess Deadpool, but Deadpool was part of the X-Men film series since Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool first appeared in Origins and of course the cameos, so its not eXactly a separate entity. I'm interested to see how the Sony Non-Mcu live action will last long. I don't see Morbius being a hit next summer and Venom 2 could have a sophomore slump. While a solo film for Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter and Silver Sable aren't even a sure thing as of today.
And for the love of mutants, just please don't release The New Mutants in theaters. Enough mutant blood has been spilled. Release it through YouTube, Hulu, NetfliX, Disney +, whatever streaming apps out there. I don't want to see its low box office numbers!
