Godzilla is already outgrossing the Dark PhoeniX in a daily tally.
I wonder if Disney saw this coming and delayed The New Mutants so they can use Dark PhoeniX's flopping as a reason to shelve or release The New Mutants straight to streaming.
I think since Dark PhoeniX had a bigger budget, featured returning cast members/characters and a sequel to Apocalypse, they couldn't just cancel it. Unlike the New Mutants which is the opposite. Anyway, sending tnm to streaming after Dark PhoeniX flopped sounds fair to me.Then they should've done it the other way round. Released New Mutants (since it wouldn't have such an effect on X-Men) and shelve Dark Phoenix so that they would've had more time between the last X-Men film (Apocalypse) and the first MCU one.
Reminds me of Trank's Fantastic Four movie this one, well maybe not quite as bad but on a similar track. Like watching a train crash in slow motion. The whole way through production it looks iffy, it sounds iffy, everyone's worried it could bomb, then it bombs.
They shouldn't have released this. They better not release the other one.
boring just like the movies itself you mean?
or different type of boring?
Woke up? So it’s flawed even as a sleep aid?I fell asleep during second act. woke up in the third act then fell asleep again.
:-(
I'm not sure why this is, but there definitely seems to be a pattern of 80s remakes generating more interest than 90s remakes.

I was wondering the same thing! It doesn’t look like it cost nearly that much. I don’t know where that budget went? I mean the VFX were nice for the most part but nothing so notable that it would cost more than any other film. What was the production budget for this before the reshoots? Because the movie just doesn't look very eXpensive, it doesn't look like it had a budget of 200 million, the movie looks small and small scaled. Genosha, the mansion, the buildings they have used shouldn't take a lot of money. While the previous movies had Cerebro, the subbasement, X-Jet, helicopters. The only thing really new is the space setting which lasted like 5 minutes. Most of the characters are in casual clothing as well. The movie isn't vfx heavy compare to X3. I guess the First Class cast got a pay raise to return for their 4th X-Men film.

Just FYI - If you make $300m worldwide you only keep around half for US, and less than half everywhere else, down to only 25% in China. Cinema chains need to make a living too.@samsnee The movie was better, they left character development in the cutting room floor. And yes, timing is EVERYTHING in hollywood when releasing a movie, release it at the wrong moment be it for the audience or because of competition and a movie can bomb.
@Detective Conan It would have been profitable if they were professionals about it. What was the budget of the movie, 150 millions? Lets assume it is, more 50 million of marketing, again just a guess.
That makes the movie 200 in budget, if released at the right moment like lets just say November of 2018, with the proper marketing, maybe it would have done 300 worlwide, maybe more.
Then it would have been profitable, not great, but profitable.
Now, lets make the audience wait for almost a year with ridiculous delays and that is gonna affect the movie in some way, and if on top of that you remade the whole third act because of the most insane of the excuses which make the production just waste money, maybe making the movie 250 in budget plus the marketing money then yeah, is gonna be harder to profit of it.
Not to mention the constant "i have not seen the movie but is crap" unbearable and illogical attacks and made up problems a big part of the -misinformed and biased- internet did on the movie, discouraging people of seeing it, and that is gonna affect even it even more.
I could elaborate even more, but no point, maybe some other day.
It looks like money not well spent, just like with Fant4stic's 120 million.I was wondering the same thing! It doesn’t look like it cost nearly that much. I don’t know where that budget went? I mean the VFX were nice for the most part but nothing so notable that it would cost more than any other film.
I was on a bit of a high when Mystique died because it was pissing me off with her giving orders. It was right around time Jean went to that junk yard to see Magneto. Then I woke up on train scene and I was like "wtf why are my X- MEN fighting these boring looking humans!" .then I woke up in the credits. LoL
Man, that sounds like an even worse experience than just watching the movie in full![]()
Why would you go to the cinema for Dark PhoeniX just to sleep?
Last Sunday, I just watched it for the second time and I did sleep but it was because I was so sleepy.
So, how much for the weekend? I wanna hear those projections. The movie lost a huge amount of theaters. Wonder what that drop's gonna look like.
