DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

My guess is Gunn and WB are really gonna want to keep their focus on the next four films first before doing alot of talk about the new DCU.

Those films still have to make money , and I don't think they want to step on the messaging for those films by touting a new continuity at this point.

Agree.

I think the announcement will be a second and final season of Peacemaker 2, a Superman film, a Gotham City Sirens film, The Batman 2 and an Amanda Waller TV series.

EDIT: And maybe Green Arrow/Black Canary

I think ( hope really ) it will be....
A Superman film ( duh )
GL
Some obscure character film like zatanna, Deadman, etrigan, etc
And perhaps a green Arrow and black canary film.

I think he's starting to look quite old in the poster/trailers for this movie. No doubt all that adding mass and dropping it again between projects. The aging is hitting him harder than it did for somebody like Jackman over the years.

Ironic considering they dropped Cavill for a ''younger'' Superman story, yet Levi might be hanging around.

Yet, Adam Brody looks 5 years older than ‘Seth Cohen’ and The OC came out almost 20 years ago.

Well, Shazam 2 isn’t on my radar now… thanks Zachary.

Seems like He was talking more about the Big pharmacy companies being Bad.
But sadly, its Not the first questionable thing He said.

I really hope this is as epic as what marvel did with Thanos.
I would love to see a villain like Darkseid or the Anti-monitor for the showdown in the last couple of films.

You’ll never convince me that “younger” excuse was anything other than an excuse. They ditched Cavill because they didn’t want anything to do with his Superman, plain and simple.

I also suspect Levi has suddenly gone mask-off because he’s already been made aware that he won’t be hanging around.

It sucks for cavill but I totally understand it from a business perspective.
The majority did NOT like snyder's take, and for better or worse, keeping HC as supes would confuse the public.

That should be the logic for ALL the characters post Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, if things are to be believed, Gunn/Safran have decided to cherry pick what works for them and what doesn't.

I would be sad to see the likes of Gadot and Robbie go (not to mention the loss of Keaton is painful), but if you going to go for it, really go for it.

Rip the band-aid off and and let the wound heal.

I think the success of The Batman had a lot to do with it as well.

But where do those things come from?

It all seems to be based on who is "friends" with Gunn and Safran, and completely ignores the fact that they have a studio to run and a 10-year plan to execute. Is Gal Gadot going to sign a 10 year contract? Do Safran and Gunn want a 53 year old Aquaman, or a 52 year old Shazam at the end of the 10 years? Particularly when they'll be casting a 20-something as Superman?

Worth noting, they haven’t actually cherry-picked anything yet, because they haven’t announced anything they’re planning, other than a new Superman, and I guess we know Reeves’ Batverse is safe, as it already wasn’t a part of the DCEU and literally just started. But that’s it. Everything else so far is pure speculation, and we certainly don’t know that they’re keeping any DCEU elements at all yet.

I wouldn’t expect them to announce nixing them until the movies have been released, anyway.

I think Gal is getting one more movie with a new director to close her and the current DCEU out. Gal is still wildly popular in the role and removing her would cause a lot bigger backlash than Cavill's removal. I think WB wants to keep what was working.

But I could very well be wrong,

If they're phasing Momoa as Aquaman out which they clearly are, they're phasing Gal out as well. That strikes me on some level as a little insane but one imagines a major factor in cutting them loose now as opposed to giving them some sort of send-off is how massive a salary they demand (though I suppose Momoa obviously being recast as Lobo complicates that idea).

Besides, zero point in making a Gal Wonder Woman movie without Jenkins. WW84 had its flaws (and many good qualities as well) but the alchemy of Jenkins and her chemistry with Chris Pine get something out of Gal Gadot that nothing else does - her lack of talent as an actress is exaggerated, she's passably fine, but the difference between her in the first Wonder Woman and anything else she's done is night and day.

If WB wanted to keep Gal Gadot in the role and do Wonder Woman 3, they would have kept Jenkins on board and did what she wanted. Instead we had Gadot posting what felt like a goodbye message on IG, then the announcement of Jenkins departure and her coming out later denying rumors of her being difficult by clarifying that she was told WW3 wasn't moving forward at all... its pretty clear to me that that version of the character is done.

Gal is so done. They haven't announced it for an obvious reason which may be considered a spoiler, so I won't post it.

Jenkins was clear in her IG post that she offered to consider whatever they wanted for WW3 but they didn't want to move forward. That's a very clear indication, especially if Jenkins was open to moving back to the tone of the first film (which is presumably what they would have wanted if Gal was staying).

If Aquaman 2 is a big hit, maybe they'll give Momoa his own third sequel. Other than that, or a break out from Blue Beetle, DCEU is done.

The wrinkle here is... Gal is going to pop up twice this year in two DC movies so IF they are getting rid of her they're definitely going to wait until Flash is done. I agree with you guys that without Jenkins and Pine Gal is going to be handicapped but the general public seems to have taken a liking to her as far as her mainstream popularity as Wonder Woman. Her firing could cause a lot of upset that WB doesnt want...but then again maybe Gunn is bold enough to brave the hit and convinced his bosses it'll all be worth it.

Also word on the street is tomorrow they're going to do a big press announcement about the DC plans but they're going to hold off on announcing it until Tuesday.

I think this is the great myth of the DCEU. The general public loves Cavill as Superman - then why did no one show for Justice League or Black Adam? The general public loves Gadot as Wonder Woman - then why did no one show up for Justice League or WW1984? The general public loves Robbie as Harley - then why did no one show up for Birds of Prey or Suicide Squad.

Why DID people show up for The Batman and Joker? That's your answer. Small but vocal fanbase. The case for a complete reboot makes itself.

The DCEU has not had a hit since 2018. You can blame the pandemic, but that's bookmarked by DC's only two successes since 2018 - both of which are outside the DCEU.

I hope DC has finally realised that the actual people who make this movie a success are not the few thousand who tweet about it forty times a day.
