DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I bet Hartnett wishes now that he'd taken it, I don't think the role would've stood in the way of much of the stuff he's done since. I wouldn't have minded him as Supes. The list of contenders was for the most part fairly green actors, outside of Brendan Fraser. Cavill, Bomer, Routh, Victor Webster, Jason Behr, Orlando Bloom, etc. Green at the time, at least. He was as eligible as any, if not better. I don't really think Ratner or McG would've aced it, but I do love me about 80% of Abrams' script. Pity they didn't give it to him.

I think his acting would have been fine but it's just really hard to picture him as Superman. Then again, it was difficult to imagine Zach Levi looking like Shazam, and he looks the part well enough so maybe Hartnett would have been able to pull off the elusive Kal-El look.

Ah yeah that sounds right. I forgot about Hartnett being rumored. He's a good actor but I don't think he would have been a good Supes.

Really? I think he’d have nailed it and if the rumoured audition tape isn’t real he did.

Yeah. I could maybe see him as Batman or Hal Jordan but Superman is such a tough part to cast because it’s such a specific look.

Really enjoyed the Aquaman/Shazam trailers. They where really fresh and different from what we've seen before from the DCEU. The sillyness and humor in Shazam felt really natural. And I loved the Aquaman visuals, and style.

Unfortunately no other huge announcements. With WB/DC supposedly being done with "big slate announcements" it is just a little disappointing that we only got movies teased that'll be coming out between now and 2019.

Would have been neat to see some announcements of the future of Superman/Batman or any updates on movies still in development like Flash/New Gods/Birds of Prey/etc.

One of these days we'll get a proper Superman sequel

I wasn’t expecting much else, because I don’t think they actually know what the hell they're doing themselves yet...

That bothered me too, although i'm not really surprised by it either. They definitely could have cleared up the Affleck and Leto stuff at the very least.

Aquaman is giving me Green Lantern trailer flashbacks..though less painful, obviously.

Shazam has an oddly cheap look, to me. Almost like a CW show..though it looks like a lot of fun.

I need to see a second trailer for Shazam before i judge either way. But it's probably not a movie made for me. I would love a Black Manta centric second trailer for aquaman though.

Definitely, on both points.

I think that's for the best, after what happened with The Flash film (would have came out in March). Just go slow and re-establish the brand.

We do have 3 confirmed DC films in 2019 though (Shazam,Joker and WW84) and 1 for 2020 (Birds of Prey). Curious to see who else we get...

I guess that makes sense. WB/DC have taken a lot of flack for announcing things that may not even happen. Perhaps they've decided (finally!) to rein it in a bit and announce as they go, just a few films ahead, based on what's working.

Are Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps still happening?

And if not, why is there still a Green Lantern forum section when there isn't a section for other comic films that have had one or two movies already but nothing in development at the moment?

The Flash is easily one of my most anticipated movies but I’m honestly happy that it was delayed.
I think we’ll get a better movie in the end.

GLC is in early stages by Geoff Johns

Honestly I hope they have dropped Cyborg. That was a totally boring prospect. I don't think anyone wants to see him after Justice League either. It's not like he was the standout in any way.

Rumour had it that the Cyborg movie had been dropped as he was due to figure largely in Flashpoint. Of course with Flashpoint now apparently shelved in favour of a straight Flash movie, who knows

GLC is still happening, but is still in early development. I doubt it'll make that 2020 release date.

Cyborg, Batgirl and Nightwing are all DOA, according to rumors from people with inside sources. In the case of the latter two, it all depends on Reeves Batman film.

Like I said, I'm curious to see what else is released in 2020, besides Birds of Prey. Batman? Flash? Suicide Squad 2? I hope WB is preparing release dates for Shazam & Aquaman sequels, because they're looking like hits!

Curious, after seeing the Shazam trailer, do you think Zach Levi would have made a good Superman? I remember there being a rumor (that turned out to be bogus) that he was in talks to play Superman and a lot of nerd rage was directed his way on the Internet. But I wonder if he could have pulled it off. Bulked up, he kinda has the look. Just a hypothetical.

..yeah, I'm not shocked there was nothing about Superman.

Yes, he would. I can see Levi playing Clark Kent as Chuck-like.

I am just surprised that there haven't been any new developments on The Flash solo film or GLC or SS2 or Batman or MOS2 especially after Comic Con after press was done for Aquaman, Wonder Woman 84 and Shazam. However, I guess it just may be too early and they don't want to kill whatever press they have on those films but still we need to be building this universe further.
