DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Yeah I would love that lineup! It’s probably about time to focus on Wally West after the Ezra debacle.

John Stewart would be the smart choice. Regardless of the movies quality, “Green Lantern: Beware My Power” very smartly introduced John Stewart as a stand in for Kyle Rayner. Stewart lacks big comics stories/lore. The GL lore is centered around Hal and Kyle, I think it’s smart to give Kyle Rayner’s origin to John. I would love to see a GL movie with Sinestro and Hal Jordan/Parallax as the covert big baddie. Would be a good foundation for a GL movie.

We’ve still never seen a Green Lantern with the Justice League, that’s crazy! Wouldn’t mind seeing the League with Rayner, Stewart , or Jordan. I just want to see a live action Justice League with GL. I still think it was a mistake not to use John Stewart GL in JL.

Yeah.
Plus, after the Flash tv series and presumably the film, I think a reboot would best to use Wally West as opposed to retreading Barry's backstory , love interests etc.

I like that lineup too. John Stewart and Hawkgirl definitely need a showing.

I think including Hawkgirl and GL should totally get their moment to shine for a reboot.

I wish Zaslav or someone from WBD would’ve explained anything about what the ten year plan entails. A new cast? The Snyderverse cast? Anything!

I doubt they know themselves at this point.
I guess they’re waiting to fill that Kevin Feige type role first and have that person explain their 10 year plan.

Idk what to think of Zaslav but I do know that I didn’t like where the DCEU was heading. So many baffling story and casting choices. Not feeling the direction they were going at all.

So I appreciate him understanding there was a major problem and trying to remedy it.

Honestly I don’t think Gadot, Levi, and Momoa are that good as their respective characters. But the thing is the audiences are already used to them in these roles. It would be hard to replace them. I’d rather we just got new versions of these characters in a stand-alone Justice League show. With Ezra, Affleck, Fisher, and Cavill seemingly vacated their roles, maybe it’s time to just wipe the slate clean in a few years time. Let the Black Adam/Shazam series finish up, and do Aquaman 2, and WW3 and call it a day on the DCEU?
I don’t mind that as long as they have ambitious plans on how to restart and this time ensure it’s executed well. There aren’t infinite chances at this.

I agree, I don’t even know if they can or should restart at this point. They pretty much had their one shot in 2016 but they failed.
If/when they have the best creators and a top line person/people to coordinate it all I think they have one more chance. If that fails there will be so much baggage over so many years that it will 10 times more difficult. They should only go for it if they are very confident and have all the pieces in place. Otherwise for now keep it simple and get some quick wins in to at least stabilise and start putting out quality solo films till audiences start marking out the DC name as usually worth watching, and outside of Batman.

Problem with a restart is that some of the movies have worked. Wonder Woman and Aquaman in particular.

I don’t think you can get rid of Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa.

It's also hard to get rid of The Batman and Joker, which themselves are their own thing.

Now, there hasn't been a plan to, but those two being hits make it even harder for WB to do a reset with Batman at least.

If The Batman 2 and Joker 2 are both big hits, there's no pulling the plug on those franchises for the sake of a shared universe.

Basically, they'll have to let those four film trilogies ride out their run, release the remaining films which are in the can, and at best, in the near term, they can reboot Superman ,or start new properties like Green Lantern, and other characters.

They're basically stuck doing what the previous regime did in, sticking what works, and abandoning what doesn't.

And that means, they won't get a MCU style interconnected, shared universe, at least for another decade.

They can create the studio, set up an organization structure, find their Feige , etc, but in terms of creating a rebooted , MCU style interconnected universe, that's a ways off.

Zaslav keeps talking about using Superman, Batman and all the All-stars. I think the first big post-Zaslav announcement could be sth akin to a JL reboot.

Leave out the characters that currently have movies going. No WW, Batman or Aqua. A new Superman and Flash. And plenty of alternate JL-ers to fill up the roster.

I have zero interest in a JL movie without the trinity. So that’s a no from me dawg.

I also don't see Zaslov wanting to do a JL film without the trinity.

They're gonna wait until all of the big guns are available to do a JL, meaning Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Flash, at least.

That said, I'd definitely be for adding Hawkgirl, Stewart Green Lantern, MM, The Wally West Flash to the team the trinity , while swapping out Aquaman , Cyborg, and Barry Allen's Flash.

After seeing him with the Titans, Doom Patrol, and Justice League, I think it’s clear Cyborg’s true home is with the Titans. They had it right the first time. I don’t mind him on any of the three teams but he shines brightest with the Titans. Plus you just can’t beat that Beast Boy/Cyborg dynamic. I love them together.

Hot take, I like Supes, Bats and WW, but I never cared a whole ton about them as The Trinity, tbh. They’re iconic and photograph great together, but I think you get just as good character dynamics out of John Stewart/Hawkgirl or Superman/J’onn J’onzz or Green Arrow/Black Canary. A JL roster out of the classic Satellite Era tickles me a good deal more than the New 52 line-up.

Just like building the MCU without the X-Men and Spidey proved Feige had the stuff, creating a solid JL film without making you miss Batman would be a power move.

Zaslav main priority is apparently screwing over creators and sacrificing HBOMAX programing to clear out debt. What's happening over there is REALLY ****ed up.

Zaslav is getting WBD ready for another buyout

Unless Aquaman 2 is a complete fizzle, they are going to want Aquaman in the JL. Aquaman is a billion dollar moneymaker, and has more proven moneymaking ability than the Flash.

To be clear, the discussion we were having about a JLA film was in the context of a reboot of the entire DCEU, which has been rumored to eventual happen.
Where are Not talking about the current DCEU.

Thus, there would be a new version of Superman , Batman, Wonder woman, A Flash that could be Wally West, and could have John Stewart's Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl, taking the place of Cyborg and Aquaman, etc.

A Justice League 2 with the current DCEU ain't gonna happen, so the idea of JM's Aquaman , even though it made a billion ,being part of it, is moot.
The film is not happening.

If they did do a sequel to the current JL ,Aquaman is gonna be a part of it.
No question.

Now , if you're argument is that any version of the JL, reboot or not ,would include Aquaman because it made a billion, fair enough.

We were talking about our own preferences, not what the studio would actually do in terms of a line up.

- Aquaman 2 is rumored to be testing very poorly. That may be the last of the series if it’s not a big hit. Plus they already covered so much ground in the first movie, I didn’t really need a sequel. I wanted to see Aqualad mainly, Khaldur and/or Garth , and neither appear to play a major role in the sequel if leaks are to be believed.
- I want to see Giganta, Doctor Psycho, and Circe. But they should probably scrap Wonder Woman 3 if WW84 is any indicator of what the films quality will be.
- Shazam 2 has excited me 0%, I hate the villains that they chose. And I wasn’t as high on the first as everyone else seemed to be.
- Black Adam looks pretty subpar to me as well, it has no bearing on quality but I really dislike Hawkman’s design. We’ll see though. I’m pretty much just interested in Black Adam when he’s fighting Shazam. But I like that we’re getting the JSA.

With just a few more strategic movies, they could close out the DCEU with a satisfying conclusion. A Henry Cavill Superman / Black Adam / Shazam movie could provide a good spot for an ending of the DCEU.
