Variety with a nothingburger

We already know Emma Watts was/is in the running. Dan Lin is pretty much guaranteed imo. THR said his team and WBD are hashing out details over salary, his production company etc etc

Yes. Absolutely nothing new in that article.

DC had their own very successful template with The Dark Knight movies. Rises made over a billion in the same year that Avengers came out. Begins led to TDK. MoS could have led to a huge sequel, if they’d either had more oversight of Snyder, or hired someone else.

I firmly believe if they’d ploughed their own furrow, and only started crossovers after successful solo trilogies with the key JL members, we’d now have DC doing better than Marvel.

I kind of doubt that last part, but mostly because IMO the main ceiling on Marvel's success has to do with intrinsic properties of the movie business. The movies can be as good as they wish, its not going to magic into being more movie theaters or more disposable income in peoples' pockets.

That said, by any rational standard, simply doing *as good* as Marvel should constitute a wild and massively profitable success. WB should have been able to achieve that with their DC movies, even if they just leveraged the greater profile of a couple of their most famous heroes. They just. . . couldn't get out of their own way.

The tone was fine, they didn't need to be Marvel 2.0.

The fact that said movies flopped, and their most successful DCEU movie to date was *Aquaman*, the movie most tonally similar to the MCU? Suggests that this is not, in fact, the case.

BvS underperformed for sure, but it didn't flop. Plus Joker hit a billion. So, there's certainly an appetite for CBMs that have a more serious tone. The problem was and still is WB itself imo. At this point, they could write a book on the practice of getting in your own way.

The Batman also made $770m worldwide.

That suggests people just liked Aquaman.

BvS has gotten worse to me over the years, not just because it’s a mess but because I know it doesn’t lead to anything worthwhile. Same with Man of Steel. I don’t hope for anything anymore, but I want a proper modern day Superman movie within the next 10 years, so I can at least say that there’s been a good adaptation besides the original ‘78 version.

KC Walsh says the plan is to bring back Cavill and Affleck “full time” and then have the Flash make it so none of the JL have ever met and Batfleck has to assemble the JL again but this time has more options.

Walsh says this is a mix of speculation and stuff he’s heard from sources.

This sounds very...cumbersome. I'll be honest, I liked Cavill in the role and I thought Affleck did a very good job. But after all the 'are they in/are they out' that went on for ages, plus the other s**t that's gone on, I'm ready to move on.

That sounds worse than anything anybody had said about the Future of the DCCU.

If you really must, have them both in solos movies and be done with it.
But you cant go back on the mess that was made.
Gadot and Momoa have one foot out of the door, i doubt miller will play the flash after the mess of a movie ever again.

For the love of all that is holy, start fresh...there is no way to save the Shared universe anymore.
The time for that is just way too long over.

Make the Batfleck movie, give cavill a shot with a good director etc...but other than that, move on for the love of all that is good and true in this world.

The bit about Cavill and Affleck being back is legit. The Ankler mentioned Cavill was part of WBD's 10 year plan

The other half sounds like him throwing stuff at the wall. Audiences would never buy these actors meeting for the first time again

Do you have the article? It’s stuck behind a paywall :(

Very cool if Affleck decided to come back for more than just cameos. I was never the biggest fan of Cavill as Superman (dude is boring as **** to watch), so that's a big "Meh" for me. If there's truth to these rumors, I suspect Momoa and Gadot are also getting re-upped on their contracts.

So a soft reboot of the DCEU with the original cast mostly intact (you have to figure Ray Fisher is out at this point). Keep Snyder away and I'd be curious to see it.

Nah. Saw it on the DCEUleaks subreddit

I'll post the relevant bit because it's an article talking about male superhero bodies lol

And don’t forget DC’s own Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dwayne Johnson (with Black Adam out in October), Henry Cavill (in a rumored Superman return) and Zachary Levi (Shazam), all of which, Zaslav declared on his company’s recent earnings call, will fall under a “10-year plan.”
This dropped weeks before any of the Cavill in Black Adam rumors started coming out. No mention of Affleck or Keaton though..

Disagree with them being better than marvel but they would be doing a whole lot better

A soft reboot with a cohesive direction + same cast is the ideal scenario imo.

Wouldnt call it ideal, but if thats the case...its not the worst.
I dont see why they would be so hellbent on hanging onto parts of the snyderverse when a complete reboot would be a smarter idea, but it could be worse.

As long as they keep snyder activly away from doing anything DC related, its probably the best we can hope for.

While i wouldnt be okay with some 10+ year plan involving already 40-50 year old Superman/Batman, i cant deny that Cavill and Affleck deserve better than what Snyder and WB gave them so far.

WB is in a pretty bad way at this point ,and I think fans should temper their expectations of what WBD will be able to achieve in the next several years.

There are Zaslav's aspirations and claims, but talk is cheap .

I don't take the " 10 year plan" stuff as anything more than vague aspirations ,and talk at this point .

We already know they're going to play out alot of the films that were already coming down the pike from the last regime , so that's something of a guarantee.
They're also creating their own studio so that's a step forward.

Other than those though, given all the drama under the new leadship , I'm not super optimistic about the next several years over at WB.

As long as they intend to follow through on Darkseid coming to earth with his armada I'd be fine with this. Have his armada arrive in JL 3.
