DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

WBD stock down to $12 a share.

What do you think would happen to their stock if Zaslav brought Snyder back to oversee the entire DCEU? I know it won't happen but I wonder how, if at all, that would affect the share price.

Seriously lol?!?! I mean I like Snyder but I don't think anybody specifically that's not named Feige can make their stocks go up.

The job really doesn't sound all that attractive.

-You're expected to come in and be "Kevin Feige," even though there is only one Kevin Feige.
-You're expected to turn DC Films around and make it a successful juggernaut like Marvel Studios. All the while, you have four films from the previous regime still yet to be released, and two "Black Label" films in the works. Continuity is muddy and there's no clean reset in sight.
-You're expected to do all of this while Warner Bros. Discovery is hemorrhaging money and Zaslav is slashing budgets left and right.
-You're expected to weather a constant, never-ending stream of harassment and vitriol from a certain vocal group of fans.

If I'm a producer interviewing for the position, job security is my biggest concern.
They could stop expanding the Reevesverse, but that'll definitely create another group of angry fans lol. I don't know why they got 3 (5 if you count the tv shows and the HBOMAX shows) separate universes going on. I know they was angling for a Multiverse thing but I'm almost certain that was just a cover story. Zaslav might not be a good guy but he also inherited a muddy mess from Hamada.

I think Hamada was ultimately resigned just to find which films worked and which didn't , regardless of alot of fans who wanted a shared continuity with every film.

And frankly, I'm dubious to the notion Zaslav wants to do anything all that different than Hamada in that respect.

He isn't cancelling the Batman 2 and The Joker 2 even though they aren't in continuity with The DCU.

They're hit films , and even Zaslav wouldn't pull the plug to sequels to them.

So , the guy isn't so gung-ho about " everything having to be connected" if he's still letting a couple of different continuities run concurrently.

Zaslav is a guy outta his depth , with a big ego, who inherited a bad situation.
You can get better people who are less of a gamble for the crazy money he’s being paid.

If I dont see a Crime Syndicate movie or hbo series within the next 5 years....they've failed once again

For me its more likely that DC will do a reboot to their universe before Marvel also the DCEU was not created by Discovery and i think they want to create a universe made entirely by them i say they should let Snyder to do his Justice League 2 and 3 and then do a reboot a whole new universe created by The Batman universe

Yeah I don't think Reeves is really a viable stepping off point as people think. He seems to prefer his stuff separate. If in fact he was willing to participate they would have given him something like Nightwing or something considering Affleck was waffling. But Reeves was waffling too tho, so here we are with yet another separate universe.

I know that there are fans who've taken Reeves statements to imply that he's open to adding other superheroes, aliens, magic etc, to the world he set up in The Batman, but I think that's wishful thinking .

Reeves is very much in the Nolan model of doing his own thing and keeping things separate.

In theory, they could always attempt to use The Batman as a jumping off point, as they could have attempted to use TDK trilogy as a stepping of point.

But in both cases, you have filmmakers who are very much focused on their world being it's own thing without having to deal with a flying alien, an amazon god, and underwater prince, an intergalactic guardian force ,etc.

I just don't see it happening as much as there are fans who may want that to come to fruition.

I doubt even Zaslov wants that.
I think he'd rather just stick to the remnants of the Snyderverse to do those stories than to shoehorn them into The Reeves-verse.

The Hollywood Reporter said:
Given the company’s daunting challenges, it has become accepted wisdom at the highest levels of the industry that another deal waits in the wings for Warner Bros. Discovery. For reasons related to the complicated structure of that merger, no negotiations can happen until April 2024. But at that point, many industry observers believe that Comcast’s Brian Roberts will make a long-awaited move, looking to combine NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery.

That deal would face some interesting antitrust issues but would give his company scale and a viable streaming service. “Obviously Peacock sucks,” says one exec with knowledge of both companies. “There are some good synergies. I’m sure [Roberts] is licking his chops because the [WBD] stock is so low. And I think that’s Zaslav’s endgame. Get the place sold.” (Roberts and NBCU CEO Jeff Shell met with Zaslav and board member John Malone during the Allen & Co. gathering in Sun Valley last July, but given the rules against plotting any combination, that was no doubt just a friendly get-together.) A WBD spokesperson responds: “We are building Warner Bros. Discovery for the long term.”

Many top industry execs are so convinced a deal will happen that some are pre-mourning an event that may never happen. “People feel like it’s Comcast for sure,” says the head of one company. “It’s going to be so depressing to lose another major studio [after Disney bought Fox]. And Warners was the Tiffany studio.”

Yeah I saw this on Twitter. It seems WB problems goes back a long way, and is bigger than DC.

America Online (AOL) is off in the corner crying about being forgotten and spurned and spun off in 2009 after purchasing WB once upon a time.

AOL Buys Time Warner for $162 billion (2000)
Merger will form the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world.

At this point why even announce/schedule any more DC movies before the next merger is done? 2024 is right around the corner.
