DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

The question is if that still stands with gunn and Safran.
The question is how much leeway Do they have, how much is WB pushing their ideas?

If you look at the buzz the cavill cameo, now the WW news and in general always batman news generates...it seems to me the wisest to Focus on these three pilars for the Big New plan first.

I believe Gunn fully realizes that if they don't establish the core characters first then the weirder smaller projects that he enjoys doing won't get much traction with the audience.

Gunn and Safran were the ones that said that.

Really? I thought WBs zaslav said it...man these past weeks were really much, getting confused who said what.

Well Good then, we cant go that much longer without a Superman solo movie.

DC Movies: James Gunn, Peter Safran to Lead Film, TV Division – The Hollywood Reporter

“We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children,” Gunn and Safran said in a statement. “We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.”

DC Movies: James Gunn, Peter Safran Mapping Out “8- to 10-Year Plan” – The Hollywood Reporter

I love Superman, and I love Batman. I love their interaction,” Gunn said. “I love the ways in which they’re the same and the ways in which they are completely different.”

A Batman Beyond movie without the cyberpunk setting would have been stupid. Good call on cancelling it. Hamada’s approach was basically throw anything at the wall and see what sticks

Honestly, if a hard reboot is coming, they should just go for broke and go straight to Justice League. Get that right and everything else will fall into place.

Seeing Harley listed alongside the likes of the Trinity as a major player in the DC universe feels odd/surreal.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love Harley Quinn. It’s just that I wouldn’t have ever imagined her as being in the same echelon of The Big Ones™ a couple years ago.

I know what you mean, but Harley is now one of their most popular characters.

A modern-day version of DC: The New Frontier might be a cool and interesting way to reboot the franchise. Even the title is perfect.

From the average fanboy perspective, no; but she's popular with the general audience, specifically the younger female demographic.

Pfeiffer could have been back with Keaton in BATMAN BEYOND?

*Alexa, play Whitney Houston's 'Didn't We Almost Have It All?'*

Oh well, let grind our way through a pointless Joker sequel and... an Amanda Waller series?

The main problem I have with Keaton being Old Man Bruce in a Batman Beyond movie is that the reason Bruce retires is because he almost killed a bad guy with a gun, nearly violating his no kill rule. Keaton's Batman never had a no kill rule and was quite murderous in his films, so I am not sure his version of that story would have the same power to it.

Interesting point. Maybe they could have Keaton's Batman retiring because he came unbelievably close to killing a guy who was actually innocent.

Interestingly enough, Bruce Timm was going to bring Selina back for sequel to Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker (and the storyline they were going to do was going to reveal Terry as Bruce's biological son, which was later used for the Epilogue episode of JLU).

If that's accurate I'm not sorry they nixed it!

I like Pine, but I want to see a WW movie without Steve Trevor.

It's dumb, misguided and insane. I kind of like it. :o

Ugh. Why wouldn’t they want to do this?

Maybe because it’s better to get these projects right instead of throwing everything at the wall and see what sticks? That Batman Beyond without the cyberpunk setting is a bad idea? That people are really overestimating the pull
Of Keaton’s Batman?

I sure wouldn't want to be in Gunn or Safran's shoes.
One or two flops under their watch and they'll be in trouble.

I imagine the first film under their watch will be Oscar worthy lol.
Can you imagine the scrutiny those two will be giving it during production?
