DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I look at the Hamada slate of: (let's assume the years for a sec)

2023: Flash, Batgirl, Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2
2024: Supergirl, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern Corps, Black Canary
2025: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Patty Jenkins' WW3, Zatanna, Constantine 2

And I don't see anything wrong with it, tbh. This tossing out of the leadership, the slate, the actors, and bringing in another set of ideas in Gunn & Safran and starting over again is why the DCEU is in the horrible state it's in in the first place.

I think it took a period after Josstice League to figure things out, then COVID delays and The Flash delays, delayed Hamada's DCEU further and it would have truly taken off with the release of The Flash and then Batgirl, etc. The narrative among some fans is that the DCEU has been aimless the last 5 years without a plan, but I don't think that's quite true. It was clear there was a plan quietly building from The Flash all the way to Crisis.

But now there's another plan, and when that plan doesn't quite shake out and make everyone happy (which is impossible at this point), I guess they'll come up with another plan and we'll just be stuck planning things forever. It'll be 2030 and we'll still be hearing about somebody's plans for fixing the DCEU.

Jumping to Crisis on Infinite Earths with so little of the DCEU established would have been ridiculous. Imagine Marvel doing Secret Wars to end phase 2.

Everything we hear about this makes it sound better and better somehow...god damn it.

This sounds horrible

Hehe, thats the spirit.
Roll with it people, make up stuff on your own, best thing we can do at this point to tackle all those scoopers etc.
And lets be honest, that wouldnt sound too crazy for Jenkins.
One of the positives of a WW3 without her, is that it raises the chances of not having Steve Trevor again be back.

People are mad about the cancelled Batman Beyond film but unless they somehow transported Keaton's Batman into a cyberpunk future then it really wouldn't have been a Batman beyond movie, now would it?

We are Not necessary talking about Comic BB with its visuals etc.
Just the idea of it, bruce being old and a mentor to a New batman.
But Imagine Burton cyberpunk visuals...that would be incredible.

For those of us have have been here since the early 2,000s we have seen a pattern with WB and their CB films.

Tim Burton's superman lives - scrapped after going into production.

McG's Superman - scrapped after McG refused to fly in a plane.

Wolfgang Petersen's Batman and superman film - scrapped.

George miller's JL - scrapped after every role was cast, and production was to start within days.

Superman returns part 2 - scrapped.

MoS 2 - scrapped in favor of BvS. ( Although mos 2 was never "officially" greenlit )

That's just the ones we know of.
Rumors were that a Flash film, WW, Another superman film with Brainiac, were also toyed around with back in the mid 2000's.

To this day, the most fun I've ever had following the production of a film, was superman returns.
And although the film itself was disappointing, following the production was not.

We waited on every scrap of info like cattle waiting to be fed.

We would discuss and analyze every snippet of footage released like it was the formula for the secret of life or something.

Now days, following the production of a film isn't quite as fun. Instant news has taken alot of the fun out of it.

The old saying is true, half the fun is the journey there.

Ironically Henry cavill was in the lead for superman and according to McG, Robert Downey Jr would have been Lex.
Penned by JJ Abrams.
But who knows how much is true.

One day I'd like to know how many projects actually got cancelled in the last 10 years. The list we know of is already pretty long.

Heat Vision
Let's bring this back to DC.

We're sure that Gunn and Safran don't feel Fear's Cold Grip when they look over their shoulder but we are also sure there's a lot of Lurkers and Looky-loos surrounding them right now as they prepare for next week's big presentation to Zaslav.

Filmmakers and actors want in, fans want information, the pesky press wants stories, and they want to be left alone to their own devices. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, as they say.

Sounds like next week could be very interesting around these parts.

Yup.
I feel we will get one of maybe 3 real possibilities.

1) numerous solo films of lesser known characters, ie, etrigan, Deadman, zatanna, etc. Also several know hero films announced, ie, Superman, GL, etc, All leading up to Crisis films with the Anti-monitor.

2) Or, Several solos with lesser known and known heroes leading up to a showdown with Darkseid. New Gods, planetary invasions, etc.

Or 3) a gradual buildup with solo and teamup films with a KC part 1 and part 2 style of ending.

If I'm honest, I'm kinda doubtful #2 happens, because snyder tinkered around with Darkseid, but who knows what Gunn thinks.

So in my mind that leaves #1 or #3.
And he has been showing KC art in his tweets.
I know that really doesn't prove anything, or does it??

Lobo becomes the new Big Bad. :o

I would love to see a lobo film where he is hired by some aliens to abduct Lex, and Superman is forced to protect Lex from him.

So true. It seems now that almost every casting consideration/decision/reversal is aired in public, who's 'circling' this or that. We often hear about who's being considered for a major role yet to be cast whilst filming has already started. I won't deny that some of the news is interesting, but I do sometimes miss the days of waiting for a film you're so hyped for, and that since its original announcement hardly anything more has been said!

Well, if Gunn announces the film slate, and it all leads up to a faithful adaption of KC, my excitement level will be through the roof.
