DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Yes they do. Unless Zaslav wants to cancel them and write them off as well, which I don't see how they can do that. They spent way too much money on those films.

I'm not saying its a certainty... just pointing out that Zaslav has form for that type of thing, so it can't be written off as a strategy completely.

Alright Gunn, make my dream of JDW as Superman come true and lets get a Tenet reunion happening.

We've gotten no indication yet they would take that strategy with Aquaman and The Flash. Batgirl was a different beast. It was a streaming film.

Here's the difference.

Aquaman and The Flash were presented this year to theatrical partners and exhibitors. Batgirl wasn't a theatrical film. They already sold the films to exhibitors who believe they are getting these films. So unless something drastic happens, it's too late. If they pulled these films from next year's slate, they seriously risk ticking off their exhibition partners.

I’m starting to question things a bit since every other big 2023 summer movie has already released trailers except for the Flash. Could be a sign that it’s getting dumped or significantly altered and delayed.

These are the two movies that worry me a bit, Flash maybe more because it comes down to how it ends.
Like if it ends with Supergirl, Keaton Batman etc being the new main ones according to it, then the plan being not to use them and instead reboot hard...it would look kind of dumb.

And with Aquaman, the chance that it makes a billion again.
Like if you catch lightning in a bottle twice, why would you not go for a third time?

I guess it comes down to how tight the 10 year plan is.
Like if they have faith in the plan and expect big things, i could see them stop at Aquaman 2 no matter the success because they have faith enough that the 10 year plan will produce several big money things.

These are good points, so I'm not sure what they can do here. Like if Aquaman is successful and doing well and the sequel does similarly well, yeah why wouldn't you continue it?

They also don't qualify for tax write offs to the best of my knowledge the way Batgirl did.

We haven't gotten a Marvel's trailer yet ;)

I don't see a soft reboot working anymore.

The fanbase is too toxic. It's just going to be continued division about why X could be brought over but not Y.

It's all got to go or none of it does.

To be fair, Gunn made it very clear that their plan wasn't going to please everyone. So...it is what it is with this.

I'm not Gunn or WB, it's not my money or my job, but, if it were, and I was planning a hard reboot of the DCU, I'd use the Flash film to do it.

I'd reshoot some scenes, and add some scenes, no matter if it cost 50 million more.
The future of the DCU, and hundreds of millions even billions of dollars ride on it.

I'd do this.....
show barry at the end of his film preparing to return to his own earth/time.
He enters the speedforce with keaton's Batman's help.

But Something goes horribly wrong, or right?
We see multiple Flashes inside the speedforce, above, below, and next to barry.

A blinding light appears. All the flashes suddenly disappear.
Each are scattered to different multiple Earths, and trapped there permanently.

We see the spectre inside the speedforce. He gives a small smile then he disappears also.

We then see "our" barry/flash wake up on a alley in a busy city.

He slowly stands. His suit looks different.
The camera pans up to his face. He rubs his head. It's a different barry.

He slowly walks out to the sidewalk.
We/he see a newspaper stand. The flash picks one up and reads it.
Superman is on the cover, only It's a different superman.

We see a tv in a store window playing a news report of WW fighting a villain, only this WW looks different than gadots WW.

We see a GL fly overhead. Flash is like who??

"Barry Allen" a voice calls. I have need of you. Flash follows the voice.
the voice comes from an abandoned building.
Barry enters it. the spectre is standing there inside, waiting.

Why would Variety even put such a thing out there other than for clickbait?

Also, if people are telling Variety this then it means that Gunn's house is out of order and there are people there who either don't like him or are acting against him.

#JustSaying.

Of course, if this was politics you'd know that whatever's being denied will eventually be shown to be true! Just a matter of time... :yay:

Good to know, but I think addressing everything on Twitter all the time is gonna come bite James Gunn in the ass. Hope he quits while he's ahead.

I wonder who might not be happy with Gunn's plans for DC right now...

I hate to say it, but I don't think much of anything will happen until AQ2 and the flash are released and over with.

Won't be so sustainable if issues arise down the line where he/WB/DC would rather hide. Imagine trying to address BvS/JL/Ezra if you are interacting every day on social media like this.

I appreciate James Gunn can just clear the air on Twitter, but at the same time he's dealing with one of the most divisive, toxic, and segmented fanbases on social media. He's never going to make everyone happy. No matter what he does, there will be a contingent of fans trolling him and doubting his every move. Many are going to second-guess his every move.

Being so open and responsive is just a no-win scenario.

Just saying, you almost never see Kevin Feige engaging the social media rabble because it's not going to get you anywhere. You can find 1,000 people with 1,000 different opinions on Twitter. You can't make everyone happy.

It can be a waste of time when you have such a huge job on anyway. I get wanting to knock down false rumours but what happens when it's something true you don't want to confirm or contest or avoid talking about? Then the silence counts for something when you're usually everywhere. The point of not confirming/denying things is that things won't be taken as confirmed/denied when you don't talk. For eg on something sensitive where you haven't decided your course of action yet.

Excellent points.

I dont get it, i mean...have people forgotten Doctor Strange 2 and the ****storm it got because it wasnt cameo heaven as those scoopers for months promised it would be?

Now you have Gunn who shuts these scoopers down and He is in the wrong?

Like Look at how for an hour or so the fandom got all kinds of crazy over reeves batman being in the dcu?
Is that really better than having someone in Charge shut down rumors because they Manifest itself and paint a wrong picture?

Absolutely love that Gunn is squashing rumours. He's quickly deleting any narratives that aren't his own. If you want to start with a clean slate and a new vision, don't let the scoopers influence fan expectation. Set the expectation yourself.
