DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Tbh I think they'll just fast-track Reeves movies and re-introduce Batman to the DC universe once he's done with his trilogy. The Batman 2 in 2025, The Batman 3 in 2028, then Batman in the DCU.
Matt Reeves took several years to make The Batman. I think if WB tried to fast track his sequels he’d be like

Yeah, it took Reeves a little over 5 years to make the movie. I expect the second film to come out in 2026 at the earliest.

Yeah, that's sort of a bummer, and I wouldn't want them to rush the process. But if you think about it, there was a lot of uncertainty in the early stages of The Batman's production (Ben Affleck status as Batman, the script, COVID, etc). That's no longer the case. Reeves will likely have DC Studios full support, so I think a 2028~2029 deadline for The Batman 3 is pretty reasonable.

Yeah but there were COVID delays? And the Ben Affleck of it all, right?

I would hope we could get something in Fall / Holiday 2024. But maybe Penguin can tie me over.

Correct. Reeves had to rewrite the script from scratch after Ben Affleck stepped away, which was like a year or so after Reeves was attached.. Plus this movie was originally supposed to be out in 2021 but was delayed due to Covid. So if you look at it from that standpoint, the Batman movie we eventually got took about 3 years to make.

I think he'd make a great MCU Hercules. Hemsworth and The Rock both acting stupid could be fun.

It only took him 5 years to make the first because:
1. When he was hired in 2017 he was deep into doing WoTP and couldn't start working on The Batman until late in the year.
2. COVID which delayed the movie an entire year

If not for those two factors it probably would have taken him 3 years. So him doing the sequels in 3 year timespans isn't as insane as people think. It took him 3 years from Dawn to make War as well.

Nope.

Vieweranon and Umberto both clarified that her scene with Cavill was cut (due to what happened with Cavill now not being Supes), but the one in the intro was not. She only had two.

He probably is out but People believe that the Suicide Squad actors are safe so who knows.

Well it sucks, but blame WB, the directors, ( and the rock ) for just assuming name recognition alone would get butts in the seats.

That may work on opening night, but once instant wom gets out, it will make or break a film these days.

You have to tell a good story now or we simply won't watch it.

I'm hoping for exactly that. Any universe reboot will take a few years to get going so 2028 will still be very early in its life and Pattinson/Kravitz/Farrell could be huge boosts to the wider DC universe after Reeves' third film, if all parties are cool with it.

I wish they would just focus on Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern for the next 5 to 6 years. No joke. No need for a huge movie slate or anything, just make these four characters coexist within a loosely shared continuity. Make some kick-ass movies. Less is more imo.

Reintroduce Batman to the DCU once Reeves is done with his stuff (probably around 2028).
I also prefer they focus their energies and resources into getting the foundation of the universe right from the beginning with the key/central characters and their environments and supporting characters nailed. Do that and it will all explode if Pattinson and Co then join it after the initial successes. Also from that base there will then be plenty of room to diversify with smaller niche projects and even try team films again once audience trust has returned.

I also hope they focus first and foremost about getting the individual characters, their journey's, their supporting casts, and their own environments first ,before getting hung up on trying to make them all fit together in an overarching storyline.

At the end of the day, if the goal is to have a strong shared universe, that means having strong individual characters, and strong individual films as a foundation.

Get the GA, not just fandom, interested in these iterations of Clark Kent, Hal Jordon, etc first, so that people will eventually look forward to seeing how they interact down the line.

There's really no rush to start team ups and overarching threats .

Yes, please fold The Batman characters into the DCU. That doesn’t mean I need to see Green Lantern in The Batman II but there’s nothing about the Reeves characters that makes me think they can’t eventually stand next to more fantastical / sci-fi characters.
