DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I imagine Shazam 2 won't perform well, and WB will have no plans to bring him back to the big screen anytime soon, making the question of "in" or "out" irrelevant. Same goes for Black Adam.
I also don’t foresee Shazam 2 performing terribly well as the movie climate has changed since the first one was released - thanks to Covid/streaming audiences are much more discerning on what movies they’ll spend their money on to see in a theater than they were four years ago. Not to mention the trailers haven’t been particularly enticing and look pretty run-of-mill. It doesn’t look bad, but nothing about what’s been shown so far screams to an audience member, “Must see”. Thankfully, it got pushed back from its December 2022 release (where it would have to compete with Avatar) to April. I think it has a fairer shot to succeed in April, but that isn’t a guarantee the movie doesn’t either tank or underperform. When you have all these potential factors in mind, I’m not holding my breath on a third movie happening.

I recommend watching The Flashpoint Animated Movie in preparation for the Flash Movie i honestly dont think Pattinson is the Prime Batman of the New DCEU he is an alternative Batman i think they will start from scratch with Batman as well with Superman but i can see the New Batman will not be a beginner Batman like Pattinson maybe the new Batman will already have a Robin or the Bat Family he will be an already experienced Batman telling another New Origin Story would be too repetitive that is my prediction

I was looking at some posts on Reddit from a couple of years ago, and how they were saying they thought the second Shazam movie would do far better than the first, with it getting a useful boost from the 'undoubted success of Black Adam'. Funny how things change.

The Gunnverse will have a Batman of it's own, and Battinson will remain in his own separate universe per Reeves's preference.

I also think that Gunn's Batman will have at least some of the Batfamily in tact, and that Batman will be more experienced ,and at a different emotional place in his life, than Battinson's version.

Shazam is not my cup of tea, I understand it has it's fans, but it's a little too goofy for me.

Yeah. Like I want to support DC where I can, but I am just not at a place where I want to watch Shazam! out of genuine interest. And until I get there I'm not going to watch it.

Im all for goofy, but Shazam, ironically, was missing some of the magic of Geoff Johns’ comic, or perhaps more accurately, Gary Frank’s art:

Really surprised the marketing department didn’t aim for more of this in the posters, which were so bland.

I really wanted to like it, I really did.
I think they jumped into the shazam family way to soon. That shoulda been saved for the sequel.

I loved captain marvel in the comics and in the JL animated series.
I was expecting that Cap'n marvel/shazam.

Fair enough. It was a cute movie that had some genuine moments. I found myself pleasantly surprised. But I do think the casting of Zachary Levi was maybe a missed opportunity? He just couldn’t carry the film, IMO. Would have been a great role for someone like John Cena (still haven’t watched Peacemaker).

It's not a comic I read and I have no interest in the character. I was never going to see it at the cinema or buy it. That said, I caught it on TV over Christmas and thought Levi was very good. In fact I thought the whole cast did well. It's not one I can ever see me watching again, but the trailer for the second one is interesting me a little more.

If it’s that good then I don’t see how WB does a full on reboot. Audiences are going to want to see that cast playing those characters again.

They will likely reboot Aquaman which was a billion dollar film. They're looking long term

How Dwayne Johnson's bid for DC power flamed out

As 2023 kicks off, DC bosses Gunn and Safran continue to sift through the rubble and will soon reveal their three-year interconnected vision for the cinematic universe, which won’t include Cavill’s Superman or Wonder Woman at all.

How wonderful. We finally get a successful version of Wonder Woman on the big screen and Gunn/Safran decide to bench her for the foreseeable. Madness!

WBD Executives are open to keeping Ezra Miller as the Flash. Sounds like Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Zachary Levi as Shazam are also safe.

Would have to imagine Sasha Calle and Michael Keaton will also return if The Flash is as good as everyone says internally.

What WBD executives are open or not open to is completely irrelevant. The only executives that matter are Gunn and Safran, and I very much doubt that Gunn is gonna keep Ezra.

False. Gunn and Safran are not the CEOs of the studio.

They're literally the CEOs of DC Studios, and the only person above them is David Zaslav. What other executives want or not want is literally irrelevant because the only people that call the shots in regards to DC characters are Gunn and Safran. De Luca and Abdy wanted Cavill to continue as Superman, Gunn and Safran shut it down.

Yeah that part was disappointing. Not even just no solo film for the next three years but it seems the character herself will be fully absent.

De Luca is the chairman of the studio, he’s going to have a major say moving forward.

I also don’t believe that report about De Luca wanting Cavill to stay. I think that was true until Black Adam bombed.

He's the chairman of WB Pictures, not DC Studios. He has no creative say whatsoever when it comes to DC Studios, as that's an entirely different division that reports only to Zaslav. De Luca can't impose absolutely anything on Gunn or Safran.

I don’t believe that for a second. Also, Zaslav has always been an extremely hands on executive and that’s not going to change.

I believe the Gunn/Safran/DC Studios stuff was mostly PR.
