DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

And? Directors do this all the time. Who cares. No one whines about Nolan having his brother co-write the TDK trilogy. People want to work with their friends and family, it’s not like Sean Gunn is untalented.

But casting him as a pretty major character despite the fact that he doesn't fit the character at all?

My guess is that it'll be a Vigilante type reinvention where he just took the name and core concept and that's about it. Sleazy salesman that works with the JL. Doubt they'll go for the whole criminal mastermind angle.

Was never part of the deranged Snyder crowd who kept going on and on about Gunn hiring his brother and wife but this just doesn't sit right with me, sorry.
I'm the same and I can't put my finger on why. I know other filmmakers have hired family/friends. I have absolutely no axe to grind against James - or Sean - Gunn. And I have no particular interest in Maxwell Lord (for me the most interesting thing he ever did was to get his neck broken by Wonder Woman). But this just doesn't feel right.

He literally casts his brother in everyone of his movies
The problem is not Sean Gunn being cast in the DCU, we all knew that was gonna happen and same will happen with Michael Rooker. The problem is that this is an extremely bizarre role to cast him as.

But this time it's bad for business and makes me feel icky.

Half of the complaints about Gunn's castings so far have been that they're kinda milquetoast and not very out there. Well, there ya go lol

I suspect Lord will fall into the classic Gunn fashion of being a near total reinvention.

Yeah Lord does strike me as the type of C-lister character Gunn would consider irrelevant enough to just completely overhaul. But still, it does come across as bizarre.

I hate it when I throw on a Kurosawa joint and ****ing TIfune pops up, like god-damn. What a grift.

Better or worse casting than Jay Baruchel?

How do you know he is a pretty major character? I would bet money he has no real value much like Max did before Countdown to Infinite Crisis. He was just a robot rich guy who started the JLI. The character had very little value except be a comedic foil for Booster and Blue Beetle.

This. Gunn might being going for the bwahaha era Justice League Max Lord.

Nolan didn't cast his brother anywhere in the trilogy, last I checked. I also don't believe the Nolans have written all of their films together, since Christopher Nolan wrote Oppenheimer on his own.

Also, outside of Westworld, do many people even know or see Jonathan Nolan's name pop up that often compared to how often Sean Gunn will appear in a James Gunn project?

TDK, TDKR and Interstellar are pretty goddamn major projects. Jonathan Nolan is a much more significant figure in the industry than Sean Gunn dude, he might only be less recognizable to the GA because he’s a writer not an actor.

Here’s the thing though: Sean Gunn is always good in those roles. I get that there’s a lot of ugliness around nepotism in the industry but I also don’t blame Gunn for wanting to work with his friends and family. Who wouldn’t?

Um.....no ty....

But Gunn gonna keep people employed! Lol. He's also reprising Weasel for Creature Commandos

Posted this in the Superman: Legacy forums; might be of interest to some on here as well:

With Maxwell Lord involved, I wonder if we'll finally get the OMAC story fans have been craving since the Snyder era. I also read somewhere that OMAC's nanotech was derived from the remains of Brainiac, so maybe Lord will take on a Miles Dyson sort of role at the conclusion of Legacy.
