DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

I really need comic book nerds to exercise even the slightest bit of critical thinking, because the second Gunn said he wouldn’t be going origin-crazy, I knew he was largely talking about the big guns like Superman and Batman.

Also lol at telling the guy behind the GOTG trilogy that he’s running the risk of going too niche and alienating the general audience.

I completely agree with Gunn. Let's stop wasting time on origin stories and hit the ground running. We don't need to redo Batman's/Superman's/WW's origins again. Let's move on to something fresh.

I’m iffy on whether Wonder Woman’s origin is as deeply ingrained into our collective consciousness as the other two that they could get away with not addressing it, but I do think they wouldn’t have to dwell on it either.

Alan Tudyk is kind of underwhelming, I like him but he isn’t as much of a chameleon as people claim. If his live action Clayface is anything like his animated one I’m going to be real bummed.

Flanagan needs to get to work on The Dark Tower, that’s what I really want to see.

So this is DCU? Not Elseworlds, right?

Idk, I’m not as excited by Clayface as others seem to be—especially in a film w/o Batman.

Tudyk has already said the way he's playing Clayface in Creature Commandos is different than how he portrays him in Harley Quinn.

I also wonder if this will be Reeves-verse or DCU.

People being disingenuous for engagement is a whole thing man. Smh

People tried to rebuke this by bringing up all the projects Gunn announced were in development in that 2023 announcement. But there is a difference between announcing projects that are in development and greenlighting the production of projects that aren't ready. Captain America: Brave New World with its endless series of reshoots because they can't get it right is the perfect example of this. I think that is what Gunn is pointing out here.

tbh im not the biggest Tudyk fan, and hope they recast Clayface. They have multiple Clayface’s to choose from.

From the comics I’ve read, Preston Payne is my favorite. He’s the most interesting and tragic, I love the mannequin he is obsessed with, and the whole King Midas angle to the character. He’s got the meatiest story to work with if you ask me.

Basil Karlo is my second favorite, I really love how he was portrayed in his very first appearance as well as Caped Crusader. Matt Hagen was at his most interesting in BTAS where he was really Basil Karlo more than Hagen.

Another Clayface that doesn’t get enough credit is Ethan Bennett from The Batman. I loved the character and wanted to see him in the comics.

And it's obvious too. But lots of people are being super disingenuous about the DCU for whatever reason.

They already tried this with that DC Daily show from a few years ago, which I don't remember finding very good. But we'll see.

I did like the Penguin podcast and saw this podcast took over that feed. Not sure if any of the producers of that show is working on this. Hopefully it's better produced than the Marvel podcast. That one is so formulaic and watered down.

Love this! Been hoping a DC-centric podcast would pop up with all the upcoming content. Quite enjoyed the Penguin podcast, so if it matches that quality then I'll be very pleased.

In the interview with Josh Horowitz, Gunn said something else had recently been greenlit that he couldn’t talk about yet. I’m gonna need that MF to spill.

That one time he promised that we’d get something in January and then he gave it to us… in January.
