The Defenders The Defenders Discussion Thread (NO SPOILER TAGS NECESSARY!)

I liked the supporting characters crossing over and interacting because this gave it a real "crossover" feeling of these characters' worlds colliding with each other. But I agree some of the interactions, like Trish and Karen were kind of pointless. But I think it would've been a wasted opportunity if the supporting cast never got to meet each other/interact with each other. Now, we have interesting new alliances/dynamics (ex: Misty/ Colleen) going forward.

I respect everyone's opinions, but it seems like folks are hyper-critical of the show.

If Madame Gao is still alive (because she wasn't exactly beheaded), could she come back pretending to her more benevolent twin sister, Madame Nao? Would that fool anyone?

Murakami wasn't beheaded either. Shouldn't he still be alive? Just because a building was detonated on top of them, why should that kill them? Bullets didn't stop Burito.

Btw, what was the reason again that none of the Defenders got thrown in jail for blowing up a building? Really wish the fight would have spilled onto the surface, with eye witness accounts and the group actually being referred to by the Newspapers as the Defenders.

I mean, its almost inevitable with these big event things that are built up over a period of time that their would be a big level of hype and anticipation behind them and I think some people's expectations just weren't met.

For me, personally, I thought it was a really fun show. I think a little bit better pacing and making the Hand more threatening would've alleviated a lot of people's complaints. Also, I think we really should have gotten Danny in his costume kicking ass, that would've made a lot of people, including myself, very happy and I would've looked over a lot of the other flaws. I really don't know why they deprived us of that when they know we wanna see it so badly.

I didn't quite understand. Something about something not being filed, so no charges could be pressed. Someone else who was paying more attention could explain it better.

I think they were basically saying the city and police department were covering it up.

Which makes some sense. Do you really want people to know that 4 vigilantes blew up a building in the middle of Hell's Kitchen even though they were initially in police custody?

NYPD didn't file any report on whatever the f**k happened so The City Council can not take any action. So nothing happened.

I thought it was good and really fun but not quite great, and can understand if it didn't meet everyone's expectations.

So are Luke Cage, Danny Rand and Jessica Jones wanted now? And what about Matt Murdock? Is he considered dead? Or is he just missing and also wanted? The police don't know that Daredevil was in there because they didn't see him before associated with the goings on at the precinct or at the building.

The show was 0kay on the whole and a fair bit underwhelming. I didn't love it like the other Marvel Netflix shows I have seen so far. It was enjoyable in parts. The best thing about the show was Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. He is awesome. He ran circles around the rest of the cast. He's got this magnetic charm about him. Even when other folks are talking my eyes are invariably always looking for him. He is just too good.

That's where I stand too. Good, not great.
Could've been great with some very easy tweaks

No, they aren't wanted as there's no crime reported. They went with the story that illegal construction around Midland Circle was to blame for the earthquake and that it eventually collapsed the building, which in turn settled the ground again. Trish spells that out on her talkshow, showing some skepticism towards it.

It makes sense though, having a simple explanation that can be said to be truly over, rather than creating panic about what's essentially a massive terrorist attack.

I thought Foggy said something at the end with Claire and Cage that explained why they were not wanted

agreed he proved his worth to the team on and off camera he deserves to be a movie or 2

Hope he gets a good few seasons with the character.

I loved it. It could have been better sure, but I haven't had that much fun watching a television show in a good long while. I particularly liked the dynamic between Matt and Jessica - they are easily my favorite Defenders. I think Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter did an excellent job and made the series.

I'm still waiting for Trish to take the mantel of Hellcat. That seriously can't come soon enough.

I know a lot of people do not like Danny Rand at all, but I feel like he was ok here. I didn't watch Iron Fist, so the Danny I saw was a kid who was trying to do the right thing. And after Luke called him out a few times I saw a kid who was willing to try and BE better. In my opinion, Danny wasn't as bad people are making him out to be.

I'll say this, I'll give them one more shot with IF season 2, there needs to be a serious turnaround with the character. More charm, less angst, more kung fu badassery less getting his ass kicked. You could clearly tell Matt was vastly the more seasoned fighter.

Agreed

And definitely about the fight with Matt. That was some bull

Haha you could even tell Charlie Cox was like, "Dude, Finn, you suck, sit down." lol

Why? The Iron Fist character has never been shown to be "the best martial artist alive". Having Daredevil, who was calm and composed, best Danny who's clearly angry and out of control worked for me.
