The Defenders The Defenders Discussion Thread (NO SPOILER TAGS NECESSARY!)

Why? The Iron Fist character has never been shown to be "the best martial artist alive". Having Daredevil, who was calm and composed, best Danny who's clearly angry and out of control worked for me.

It seemed about right that DD should be winning. He also has his radar sense, which can help him know when a punch is coming. Plus he is more experienced and also was more focused than Danny whose emotions were all over the place. I'm surprised Danny even managed to focus his chi enough.

BTW, by the end of the last episode, it seems that Danny was able to use his iron fist more than once and keep it on instead of it being a one-trick pony where, if he missed, then he was drained and couldn't summon it again. I thought that's what it's supposed to be like. It's not meant to only make a short appearance like the Incredible Hulk in the 1970s TV series - once in the middle of an episode and once at the end. :o

And speaking of Lou Ferrigno's Hulk, is MCU Luke Cage stronger than him? Certainly he's more bullet proof. Who would win in a fight?

If they want to improve IF2, they should just adapt Immortal Iron Fist #1-16 from Brubaker/Faction.

Introduce Orson Wendell, the Immortal Weapons w/7 cities of heaven, Davos and the IF outfit. Have Colleen, Luke & Misty team up in the end and you've got a helluva 13 episodes.

They need to get him in a costume with a mask so that they can get a stunt double to do the badass martial arts scenes without having to worry about obscuring Finn Jones' face.

That in of itself improves season 2 by a wide margin.

I'll say this, I'll give them one more shot with IF season 2, there needs to be a serious turnaround with the character. More charm, less angst, more kung fu badassery less getting his ass kicked. You could clearly tell Matt was vastly the more seasoned fighter.

More composure from someone so disciplined

Finn Jones wants a costume himself. It's in that video clip I posted a page back. He says to write angry letters to Marvel. Maybe some people did, which is why Scott Buck has been dropped from Iron Fist season 2. But it's still too late, as he was able to work his magic on the Inhumans.

But since Misty lost her arm in the Defenders rather than in either Luke Cage season 2 or Iron Fist season 2, then why couldn't Danny have gotten a costume at the end of the Defenders rather than his own series?

Even if he put on Matt's old black prototype costume, that would be an improvement on what he normally wears. He could then wonder what changes he could make to it like dyeing it a different colour. Or he could go and visit Melvin Potter.

At this point, I'd be ok with him just wearing the black ninja suit. Again, that allows them to use professional stunt doubles so Finn doesnt have to try to make it look like he knows kung fu.

There must be something in existence that even vaguely resembles the Iron Fist costume, since that old footage of a previous Iron Fist showed someone in a costume that had a head scarf.

Even Jessica Jones could lend Danny her scarf for him to wrap round his head.

I wish that Danny was inspired by DD to wear a costume. The impression I got is that it didn't have any effect on him.

they need to improve the fight scenes in IF season 2.
when a cheaper show like Badlands has way better fight scenes you got problems.

The Boardroom fight scene was probably the best IF moment

The building stuff doesn't explain how they all beat the other charges they were implicated in when they got arrested.

I think I would've liked to have seen a Jessica Jones vs Iron Fist fight. We got DD v IF and LC v IF but no Jessica.

Also would've liked a solo fight for Jessica. I don't feel she was showcased as much. She could even have had a longer one with Elektra or one of the members of the Hand (eg Bakuto).

oh, you mean the stalker? :o

has Netflix released the budget of this series compared to that of Daredevil and Iron Fist?

It didn't seem like they had that much to work with in the case of Defenders.

My earlier comments were from having just watched the first six episodes. But man, they really dropped the ball with the final two. It seems without Alexandra the writers didn't know what to do, and making Elektra a two-dimensional villain was such a bummer. And what were they thinking with the Daredevil fake-out. Who actually bought into that? Didn't like the fact that it didn't have an ending either, it just stopped.

After finishing it, not sure if I'd rank the three good episodes from this over the Purple Man content from JJ. Really mixed about this now, and I'm wary about Punisher.

I feel you bruh. For me the show was already on a steady decline after 4th episode and in the end, it did not recover. The finale was 0k but the ending with DD & Elektra confused me. It really wasn't clear to me, I still don't know the deal with Elektra. Maybe it'll be touched upon in DD S3 so we can look forward to that but it was blurry to me. I would like someone to explain to me what Elektra was doing here??

Punisher has different showrunners. So what happened here has no bearing on the quality of Punisher TV Series. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I definitely wanted to see her abilities showcased more. Really hope that happens next season.

So I've just finished episode 4, but let's talk about Iron Fist.

This season started and I completely understand why Danny is mopey and angry, but Finn Jones is pretty awful at being sincere in his anger. Whenever he does the whole 'I'm the immortal Iron Fist, he isn't intimidating or noble, he just comes off like he's acting.

The fact that I'd mainly read that Iron Fist was better in this series and this was what we were getting was disappointing.

But then episode 4 happens! When Danny is talking to the other Defenders, acting optimistic over finding this group of people with powers, when he's ordering Chinese food and eating it, he comes off as likeable, and charming and it really works!

Then he goes back to threatening Alexandra and he just cannot pull it off convincingly.

Only way he should ever be allowed to say that line again, is in ridiculous and silly ways.

Give Danny a personality.

Im still worried about IF2 when the new showrunner doesn't inspire confidence either

Ah I dunno about not being able to say that line at all seriously.
Back in the 70s (I know it's the 70s, and it's a different way of writing) but Danny would say stuff like that with sincerity and earnestness.

I think if he only said it on occasion (and not every single episode) and maybe with a better actor, I think it could work.

Although what I will say, when Danny introduced himself to Jessica I think it was, as 'Danny', I was like, 'oh look, that's a normal thing to do, he seems like a good bloke'.
Wish he gave hat vibe off more.

Also, this Danny in this iteration is clearly someone who loves and respects being an Iron Fist etc etc. I don't see him introducing himself as 'the Immortal Iron Fist' in a comedy 'you shouldn't really take this seriously' kind of way.

I think it would make he character even more schizophrenic than it already is.
