Not sure when it was first introduced but in the Batman mythos, everytime Bruce goes to sleep, various versions of his parents' murder are re-played.

This would be a great opening for TDK, as an adult Bruce or even as Batman, comes across a mugging, and sees that its his parents, but before he can stop it, something prevents him. It could be a surreal and bizarre film sequence that end with Bruce waking up in a cold sweat with Alfred over him and asking if it was the dream again. That is just an example.

So what do you guys think? Should the dream sequence be included in TDK, and if so, how exactly would you incorporate it?

They could use it to show how much the Joker is effecting Bruce. Let's say hypothetically Mister J does kill Rachel and - like in Batman #1 - does manage to beat Batman in a fight - you could have Bruce have the nightmare, but instead of Joe Chill, it's the Joker who pulls the trigger.

That could be a really creepy scene, IMO.

I like that. If you scenario come true then maybe it would be best to save the dream for the 3rd movie.

have a homage to burton where his dreams alter from chill killing his parents to the joker killing his parents

Yeah I'm down for a scene like that.

However, there's been different comic interpertations of when Bruce parents death would come and haunt him, and not all are in a dream like state, that Nolan can use to show Bruce's mental state over his parents death as well as how he's come to "cope" with it.

Steve Englehart had it that Batman "didn't have nightmares but that he gives them!" as Bruce's way of dealing with the pain of his parents death simply by denial.

Frank Miller had it in Dark Knight Returns his parents death haunting him just by watching "the Mask of Zorro" (the movie they went to see that night in the comics lore) and that it was some dark supernatural destiny that made him BAtman.

Batman TAS had him experince it under scarecrow gas and it paralyized him with guilt until he was able to see it wasn't his fault and pronounce Batman as the Avenger of such things and not a result of guilt (which we sort of seen in 'Begins') seeing a corpse figure of his father that held him accountable fo rhteir deaths.

and on a side note from that episode Batman says one of the greateat line ever: I AM VENGENCE! I AM THE NIGHT! I... AM.... BATMAN! Love that line.:yay:

Recently in "Death and the Madiens" Bruce not only relived the death of his parents but had a vision with an in-depth conversations with them (and he seen them wiht the blood and holes in them as they got shot) and they were dissapointed he turned to such a dark creature but he reminds them there death was the catalist for the Batman.

Point is, there are many avenues in which Nolan can explore how Bruce is haunted with his parents death that not necessary has to be in the form of a dream (or nightmare), which might be considered cliche.

*Bruce wakes up violently*

I dreamed Nicholson killed my parents! I mean... The Untoppable himself!

Always liked that bit as well. That line (and that sequence) were sort of adapted from the climax of Detective Comics 617 (July 1990, Grant, Breyfogle, Mitchell), where Batman comes swinging down and goes heel-first through the windshield of Joker's drop-top hot rod and embeds his heel in Joker's jaw.

Batman's voiceover begins on page 16 and runs through page 19. It goes like this:

Alan Grant said:
Canadian Indians call me "Ghost". European WITCHES boil me in their brew to help them fly. In HAITI, they drink my blood to give them power. Sicilians BURN me, or nail me, fluttering, to their doors to keep even GREATER fears at bay.

In Ireland, I am simply DEATH.

I lead the Samoans into WAR.

I am CHALMAKAN.

I AM THE BAT!!

I think that it may make people think back to Batman89 with something like that - that is my only concern.

bruce having nightmares about his parents' death would be perfect. there's a great dream sequence in frank miller and darren aronofsky's year one script where the dream intercuts with sleeping bruce and as the dream goes on he begins to sweat and convulse. the best is during the actual shooting where you see bruces body jerk with the sound of each gunshot from the dream. i'd love to see something like that.

Yes, and Nolan's intent here has to be to expressly NOT do that.

To hell with the dream. I wanna see him at their grave site. Not their murdersite like in 89, I mean their actual tombstones. They've never done that in live action.

Now that is a must. Make it a real iconic scene for this movie, a scene that can be replicated when Grayson goes to see his folks right after becoming Nightwing

But maybe that is thinking too far ahead.

Well if they are going to make a kickass Nightwing movie they are going to need a good amount of Prep Time.:ninja:

I put things where I want them. Excessive spacing my ass.

that dream is hell corny.

visit the grave stone but don't have him crying and falling on the ground everything. he just leaves flowers and goes. stone cold.he does this when he begins to have doubts about being batman. no flashbacks pls everyone knows how his parents died

Yeah, as opposed to a grown man who dresses like a bat who fights on rooftops a manical clown?:whatever:

I don't know about "corny" per se but it would seem a be a bit cliche'.

If he's going to have a dream, I would like it to be like the hallucination in TMWL.

Horribly distorted and terrifying.
