The Election Night Thread - Part 2

Everything is racist to a liberal that doesn't get their way.

Right... are you for real man? Are you online - at all? Go read the comments online that support Trump, you'll be hard pressed to find one page not screaming hate. Nobody's saying that only bigots voted for Trump, but you're blind if you're saying KKK, Nazis, and etc. aren't over joyed right now that their candidate won.

In that news, I suggest people watch 'American History X' and 'Imperium' starring Daniel Radcliffe, I'm seeing that one tonight for the first time - it's from a government agent who infiltrated Neo Nazi gangs in more recent years. Helps to know what we're dealing with when they all run out from hiding.

I understand that you guys look at your own backyard, but there is also the world problem.

Trump is Putin's puppet, Putin might be the worst person alive in this day and age.
He created a war in the Ukraine and annexed Crimea, a region of a sovereign and independent country.
It's the same that if China tomorrow enters and say "California is ours".
That can not be accepted or exonerated, but that's exactly what the world did, even if saying that it was a crime against humanity.

Now, you have a president that defends Putin and his policies, saying he is a great leader.
That idea is scary as all hell.

My best guess, and i really hope i'm dead wrong, is that Putin, with Trump at his side, will go on and try to conquer a few more countries, since his dream is the return of the URSS.

I mean, when someone runs on a platform of "Mexico is the root of all our problems. Send back and build a wall", not to mention other things Trump has said over the years....feels like a pretty racist platform to me.

None of my colleagues that backed him are screaming hate (or have screamed it, and these are the people I drink with on the weekends; so you see them at their most honest). But there's certainly plenty that bought his "build a wall spiel."

Only the people who voted for Trump don't see him as a racist, probably because they're racist themselves, they're oblivious to that character flaw.

It's like the Dunning Kruger effect for bigotry. When you're so dumb, you can't comprehend how dumb you are.

I refuse to believe that a majority of Americans are racist nihilists. It is clear that a majority are willing to flirt with catastrophe, however.

So, how was it for you?

This was my girlfriend's first time voting, as she finally became a citizen this year. And yes, she has immediately become disillusioned after last night.

We can look forward to this becoming our national anthem later.

I would put Trump's supporters into three categories: bigots who are obsessed with things like immigration and sharia law, people upset with the system but lack good sense, and Republicans who put party before country, like Paul Ryan. At the end of the day though, you have to accept that all three categories were okay with electing a sexist, racist demagogue on trial for being a conman. The decision me very much question their "I'm not a racist" claims or their "I am not a ****ing moron" claims.

The sad part in the end is you should feel bad for these folks.

LOOOOL

As a black man, the last thing I'm going to do is feel sorry for a bunch of uneducated, backwoods idiots who just voted in a racist scumbag. I'm terrified for the next four years. Absolutely terrified.

The only bright side, is that these idiots are going to suffer too when Trump ruins this country. Unfortunately they probably lack the brains to appreciate the irony of their predicament and will just blame it on people with darker skin.

Actually, it's a minority. About 25% of America voted for Trump. The other 75% voted for someone else or not at all.

This is what happens when people don't vote. They give the power to fringe groups to elect their preferred candidate. If this continues, you might see way more radical ideologies entering into the presidential race because they have a shot at winning.

I can't wait until Trump replaces Lincoln's portrait and puts up one of his wife.

yeah, it'll be them "danged libruls ruinin everything" even though the republicans now control everything

And T, might I suggest moving to a coast? The middle of the country might be a hairy place to be right now...

:whatever:

Black and brown people have been trying to tell you all this for years - America is racist. Your parents are racist, your grandparents are racists, your nice little neighbors are racist, your kids school teacher is racist. I could go on and on - racism isn't always loud an overt. America wanted to keep pushing this post-racial bullcrap for years now meanwhile you had black and brown people literally telling you until we're blue in the face that it wasn't true. We live this on a daily basis here in America.

Now you all are getting a glimpse into what we've been saying and dealing with for years. Until you stop being complacent and start calling out, naming and shaming your racists friends and family members, it's going to keep happening. Have zero sympathy, I'm just upset at this point. You have absolutely no clue how terrifying this going to be for racial minorities. It's life threatening.

I don't know if America is racist so much as okay with racism. Splitting hairs maybe?

Like, they're not using the n-word, but they don't care if what they want comes at the expense of non-white people.

Yes, but you have to accept that the poll on election day is or was reflective of the the people, or else you just have to do away with democracy altogether. There is no credible argument that the [75]% who did not vote for Trump would have voted for HRC if forced to choose. It is increasingly clear that all arms-length assumptions about people's political inclinations are merely guesswork.

Are you just blanket assuming every white American's parents are racist?

Intolerance of anything is by definition intolerant

reread my words, slowly this time so it sinks in.

I just don't see how Trump's policies are supposed to help the economy. If he does some the crazy things he promised the economy will get worse not better. It seems like people just took him at his word that could fix the economy, without asking for details.

ya think?

A lot of it is indifference.

Like, there are family members and close friends of LGBT or Hispanic friends on my Facebook who cheerfully voted for Trump and just don't get or care that their LGBT or Hispanic friends/family feel betrayed by it, or how alarmed these people are at the prospect of a Trump presidency. It's not a malice, just an apathy that some people find disturbing coming from those they considered loved ones who cared about them.

This form of democracy definitely does not work. The system needs to change.

Based on the numbers, the majority of America is completely apathetic or idealistic and the fringe groups are the only ones with real conviction (with real consequences).

At some point, though, you have to vote against someone (instead of for someone) in the interest of protecting certain rights. I would 100% have voted for Hillary just to keep the rights of Muslims, women, and the LGBTQ community protected.

That to me suggests that subconsciously they are bigoted.

Cognitive dissonance I guess.

I don't know if I'd necessarily say they're bigoted, per se, but lack empathy for the concerns of others that don't affect them personally.

Which I guess you could call a passive-aggressive subconscious form of bigotry.
