For anyone wondering, we just laid out the REAL story concerning the above in the Trump thread. In short, Byrd denounced the KKK, apologized, and spent his life trying to make up for it and even then it weighed on his conscious.
Only after trying to filibuster the civil rights act in 1964 several civil rights, opposing the 1965 Voting act, and approaching the FBI to block the nomination of Thurgood Marshall.
Funny how people look back on their life at the end and try to atone.
