The Expendables 2

^^ You grew up watching the 80's action films (and I assume enjoyed) and you found this to be horrible. I must have grown up watching different action movies from the 80's because I loved this movie and thought it was a great throwback to those 80's movies.

Not bad news that Stallone is handing off some of the duties. He did seem worn down by the time they wrapped up production.

Just got the Expendables on Blu Ray and it got me crazy pumped for a sequel. MORE ARNOLD!!

I was thinking the same thing. A number of action films from the '80s like Commando for instance, had bad dialogue and not the greatest plot/story. The Expendables was pretty much what I expected it to be. A fun, yet cheesy action-fest.

I don't mind that he's not writing or directing. During the Li/Lundgren(sp?)fight, the editing was overdone. I just hope whoever writes the sequel doesn't take out too many characters from the first.

maybe this is a good thing. I thought the worst thing about the movie was the direction.

Get Michael Bay to direct this. There will be explosions behind the characters even when they just are sitting & talking

If it was me, I would want Shane Black and Richard Donner for the sequel with Mel Gibson as the main villain. For the Third, get De Souza and McTiernan with Willis as the main baddie, Then get James Cameron to end the franchise with the fourth with Arnold as the Bad Guy.

Well I think this was a wise move by Sly, by taking a step back from directing the sequel.

He knows, that if the sequel is going to be a better overall film than the 1st film, he will need a full time director that will make better editing decisions and can direct action in a different way.

I was always for him taking step back from directing the sequel and I was always hoping for 80's action director John McTiernan to direct the sequel....but he is doing time right now or is going to.

Directors I think Sly should try and snag for the Expendables sequel in no particular order:

Quentin Tarantino, (Kill Bill films)
Doug Liman, (The Bourne Identity)
Tony Scott, (Unstoppable, True Romance)
Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Sin City)
Pierre Morel (Taken)
Louis Letterier (The Transporter 1 & 2)
Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral)
Joe Carnahan, (Smoking Aces, Narc)
James McTiegue, (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin)

Regardless, I would love to see a CLINT EASTWOOD cameo in the sequel where he talks trash to Sly, Arnold, and Bruce!

Now THAT would be great CINEMA to see onscreen between all those action icons!

You named directors that are way to large for the film. The Expendables is a film sold on the popularity of the actors not that of a director or writer(obvisouly from them choosing a writer behind Muppets from Space). If anything they'll hire someone who hasn't done anything in awhile, or someone who's worked with the production company, in the past. If anything the top two choices will most likely be John Hyams, and Isaac Florentine. Since they've worked with the producers in the past to great success.

The only two guys who are somewhat realistic are Morel and Letterrier. Your other choices are ridiculous. But they will choose an ordinary work-for-hire, no-personality director, Sly has a history with that.

John Hyams is probably way to experienced to handle such a big project, so is Isaac Florentine, who is largely a martial arts man (and still makes it looks like the Power Rangers :cwink: ), his other action stuff isn't that good, and he doesn't even like things like shootouts.

the director of undisputed 3, is my vote

Isaac Florentine is also a favorite of mine.

Names that come to mind are of a similar ilk, but I'm leaning towards the John Hyams (Universal Solder Regeneration), Scott Mann (The Tournament), Roel Reine (The Marine 2), and my left field pick, Tim Mathseson (Behind Enemy Lines 3, and starring in all the good 80's comedies).

Nothing wrong with aiming high baby and then Sly can work his way down from there.

Since Tarantino likes making homage throwback films....him directing an 80's style action film with a more modern take would be freakin EPIC!

Tarantino already chickened out when he changed the whole approach on Inglourious Basterds.

I second the vote for Tony Scott. Why not have the director of one of the best 80's films (Top Gun) in on this one? His latest greats with Unstoppable, Man on Fire, Deja Vu, show how much he loves to do action.

I hope in the sequel the Expendables face off against a government sanctioned team of Expendables backed by Bruce Willis

I fully expect bigger parts for Bruce and Arnold. This last go around was just a little tease, a little wink to the fans. This time I expect much bigger parts.

I really have no desire to see another Expendables. The first film was way too much plot/story with the characters pulling a Roger Murtaugh, talking about how "they're too old for this $#!t" Give me a sequel to the A-Team over this, that was what the Expendables should've been ridiculous/fun action.

I'm gonna go with John Hyams as my number 1 choice for director. The JCVD/Dolph and JCVD/Arlovski fights are AMAZING in UniSol 3. Imagine a Sly/Willis fight along those lines?

Not precisely. Hyams was his boss. For example Charlie Pecerni put together the Stallone/Snipes fight in Demolition Man, it was Marco Brambilla that co-ordinated his camera crew and editors to make it look like any run of the mill movie fight. If Hyams where directing Demolition Man, Sly vs. Snipes would've been as great as the UniSol 3 stuff.

Aside from the release date, we haven't got anything major about the sequel. Maybe Sly will do a SDCC visit again and give us some details.

Also, found this statue is going to be on sale for 149 sometime in near future.
