The Expendables 3 - Part 1

The Rock never being in these bothers me still. Lutz, Ortiz, Powell? Please, where's the great one?

Vin Diesel was never in one of these either or Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat

Theres a huge list of who shouldve been in these.

Are they planning on another one? I think this was a good place to end it with them passing the torch (in a crappy way) to the next age of action heroes. Too bad they dont have the money to get the big young action heroes of today. Theyre all in super hero movies now.

The important thing about this movie are the choppa quotes

It was decent, i loved all the scenes with the original expendables, thought Snipes's character was a fun addition. Mel gibsion was great as stonebanks, maybe even better than van damme, the scenes with him and sly were a blast.

Banderas was hilarious and symphatic, ford was just church but nicer. All the new young characters were boring bland annoying and just plain crap.

It was so-so.

The old expendables crew are underutilized, the new expendables are about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Rousey didn't sell the tough chick act very well, her "tough face" made her look like she just smelled a fart, Ortiz was terrible, I know he's not a trained actor but his delivery was terrible, he managed to be worse than Lutz.

The action is very much PG-13. Stunts and fight scenes are quite nice, but every time they hid the bloody outcome of a meeting between a metallic object and a fleshy target by using objects in the scene or through quick editing and camera angles, I couldn't help but think, "this is an Expendables movie?".

I did like Harrison Ford and Antonio Banderas, the latter was hilarious, and the former had a few funny lines that make fun of Statham's speech.

The film's biggest sin however, is wasting Mel Gibson. He didn't do much, and his fight with Stallone was a disappointment, he threw a few punches and then it was over.

Van Damme's Vilain at least went out like a villain.

If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 5/10.

Banderas and Gibson are both a lot of fun in it and Harrison Ford looks less bored than he has in ages. Story is standard 80's action movie stuff and the action is really well shot with some cool set pieces.

Question for those who've seen it. Spoiler tag the answers of course. Which good guys get killed off, if any? (Old and new)

Terry Crews gets shot in the beginning and his injury sets the plot in motion. Other than that the Expendables all live. They shouldve called these movies The Invincibles instead
Much appreciated.
Fine by me anyway. I didn't *want* any of 'em to bite it. I just figured with this one being promoted as the final chapter, they'd off somebody.

It was alright. Banderas is really fun. I wanted a lot more from Dolph because I thought he was the stand out from EX 2 but they really didn't give him anything. There's a whole lot of Gibson just walking around before he actually says anything.

I thought the end fight between him and Sly was really weak

The introduction of the new Expendables really slowed the film down. Not that they were terrible or anything (though Victor Ortiz doesn't have very good delivery) but it felt like a montage that was stretched too long.

I think it's a shame this was leaked...

Definitely gonna take a hit on its box office numbers.

Question:

What was Harrison Ford's answer when he was asked where did he learn to fly?

Aw man, this is such a bummer. I was SO looking forward to this movie but its sounding like a stinker. I LOVED EX2 and was hoping for more of that classic ode-to-the-80's style action. :(

I have to agree with what the others has said, the movie was kinda boring...but not because lack of action, but because everything in it was so predictable.

Almost all the dialogues in it are cringe inducing.

The final act was good though IMO. The action had a nice flow to it.It was better than the last act of the previous installments .That said,it still shared the same flaws, like how it felt that the good guys were never in any danger, because the bad guys are so damn easy to kill ( gotta say, except for the scenes with Banderas and Rousey when it looked like they were really in trouble for awhile).Otherwise, it's just Stallone and the crew mowing bad guys by the dozen and looks cool while doing it.

Gibson seemed like he's had alot of fun playing the bad guy.But as far as character goes,it's really nothing special. His final fight was sooo dissapointing because it was so damn short...blink and it was over!

The new Expendables crew were okay, no one really stood out. Rousey played your typical growly bad ass female ( i.e Michelle Rodriguez). That said, she done a good job with what little she's given IMO. The action scenes involving her and Banderas were some of the btter shot sequence of the final act IMO

I never really liked any of the Expendables movie...but this one i think i liked it.

I'd give it 6.5 out of 10

I think that the premise of The Expendables should be that some of the members are "expendable" in every movie, so they have to keep replacing them with new guys in the sequel. But Stallone just wanted the franchise to be safe and harmless fun, instead of one that is not just action-packed but unpredictable. I won't be surprised if GA will grow wary by the third movie of the trilogy.

Well to be fair, I think Stallone tried to add some depth with the first movie but the audience didn't respond well.

The second lightened up the tone a bit and people enjoyed it.

And to be fair, at the time, people were saying that THAT was what this series should be. Light hearted, over the top fun...so Stallone rolled with it.

^^Yeah pretty much. They really need to make some radical changes if they waht to keep this franchise going.Their gimmick won't be able to save this franchise for long

I dont think this one will do that well.

The novelty of seeing all these stars on screen has worn off and it can't fall back on the fact that it's an actual good movie.

Also unfortunately the action can't hold a candle to the stuff you see in superhero/sci fi movies or even the Fast and Furious series.

Lets not pretend these movies are box office juggernauts though...

Let me ask you guys, on a base "popcorn-action-movie level," does it at least deliver on that? All I want from this film is it to be afun film with Stallone and his buddies kicking ass. I've never expected anything more than that. Does it at least deliver that?
