The Flash The Flash Costume Thread - Part 1

I heard somewhere that the reason there is no chin piece on the cowl was designed with the crossover in mind, in order to accommodate Amell with his beard. Can anyone confirm or deny..?

Hot take: season 5 suit is the best suit of all seasons. Biggest issues with previous suits:
1. Zipper jacket. Each suit looked like a moto-bomber jacket hybrid.
2. Two-piece. It was obvious the jacket was a separate piece from the pants.
3. First three season’s red color were terrible (like some have mentioned here).

What I love about this season’s suit that they’re FINALLY getting right is the fact that

• It looks like it’s all one piece. It might not be, but they pulled that off.
• The red color, to me, is perfect. I can see if ppl think it’s a little too bright, but I think it looks great and you have to remember to account for the darkly lit scenes.
• The new cowl makes the ears look more prominent. The cowl in the beginning of the season made it look like (at least from portrait angle) that the cowl was flat all around because the ears were too small, if that makes sense. Flash’s ears are a big part of the look.

Here’s what I’d fix with this suit:
• Bigger “winged” ears like in JWS’s suit.
• Gold. Boots. Gold boots.

Nitpicks:
• Sure, bring back the chinstrap, but only because I have OCD every time the cloth comes off his neck when his head turns. Otherwise, I dig it.
• Make the bolts on the arm come around the whole arm. From profile view, we can’t see the “lightning bolt effect”.
• Exaggerate the lightning bolt effect on belt. (It’s more visible in the back)

But c’mon, you gotta be crazy if you think this doesn’t look good:

Yeah....no...doesnt look good imo. S4 suit looked the best to me.

All the "leather" pieces of the new one, especially around the neck and arms just look horrible. And Grant doesnt have the jawline to pull off that cowl.

I just don't get the thought process that went into that design. All those shapes and lines on it just seem so random. At least the last couple costumes kept that lightning theme with the yellow piping.

The leather pieces give it definition. Sort of make it look like a heavy layer. Otherwise, it wouldn’t just look like pure cloth over him.

I wouldn’t mind the yellow accents and piping back doesn’t matter to me. *shrug*

I dont see any definition. I see a flayed corpse.

Isn't the lack of definition the suits whole problem? That's why Amell looks like a sad sack in the new Flash suit.

All the patches criss-crossing it break up the lines of the suit way too much,
The color is fine. The only thing I didn't like about the first season suit was the color, as it was too dark.
And it needs the previous season's cowl (with chin piece), color matching of course.

They could easily have a chin strap that goes UNDER his chin and keeps everything together and tight and still maintains the comic style look, rather than one that comes up OVER his chin. That would be trivial to do and be a huge improvement.

Have you noticed how Flash's suit is now reflecting the light? To be more precised it's the 3D printed texture that does the effect.
It seems that "upgraded" version of the suit appeared during the previous episode but due to the poor lighting job (and also because the suit barely appears on screen) it was hardly perceptible.
It's a whole other story since they did better this time. The metallic reflection is quite subtle but noticeable, it even works during rain condition.

Here's a GIF (I hope it's not to big):

I also suspect a wee bit of padding.
The design of the suit is still too random and the helmet is a disaster but that little trick with the printed texture is undeniably neat.

^ That gif perfectly highlights how bad the cowl looks without some kind of proper chin strap/piece. Looks terrible, literally like something is missing from it.

Oh my god, yes, there definitely seems to be some padding and it looks way better. I mean, it's reeeeally subtle, but at the same time you can definitely tell. Seriously, just some really minor alteration to the rubber part of the cowl and it'd all look pretty good. Would be trivial to fix - they did it part way through season 1 after all. Seriously, if you gave me a clay sculpt of the current cowl on a lifecast of Gustin I could probably re-sculpt it myself.

The odd, un-organic panelling of the suit is still an issue, especially those plasticy bits, but I could live with it if they fixed the cowl.

The next step before the helmet, is that gigantic gap:

He wouldn't even need a chin strap in my opinion.

Edit: I've looked back some photos from previous episodes and it wasn't that bad. It's definitely a new version of the suit.

Well, I'll be damned. They actually used two different suits and two different helmets for this episode, I didn't noticed until now:

It also seems that the new helmet is also textured with a hexagon pattern.

Sure, the gap is a problem, but you can't just make a cloth neck that doesn't do that - some kind of rigid piece closing the gap is necessary. Something that attaches to the cloth by velcro or something. It doesn't need to be a chin strap - it can be an "under-neck strap".

And those ridges on the sides of the head just need to go or be moved up so they don't make the head look wider.

But yes, the new texture on the suit looks great.

Amell is actually wearing the second version of the helmet and the suit.

The suit is starting to grow on me a little, its definitely not better than the season 4 suit but watching season 5x7 it does look good in those side on shots.

2 Rejected costumes from S4....how do they reject the good ones but let S5s pass through...I have no idea.

This has got to be a joke. This better be the next step in the suit's evolution.
