The Flash The Flash General Discussion and Speculation Thread - Part 10

Honestly I kinda hope they don't do that, an imposter Barry would feel redundant after they just did Savitar with Grant playing villain, and in general I think it is too soon for that plotline, even though it is one of my favorite arcs from the comics, but then again it was already way too soon for them to trap Barry in the speedforce like they did. They should've saved it for a time when Grant leaving/Barry getting killed off was actually a possibility, the story worked so well in the comics because it was about Wally finally embracing his role as the Flash and stepping out of Barry's shadow, it doesn't work as well if the real Barry comes back shortly afterwords and sends Wally right back to supporting character.

The Flash: Barry returns scrambled, but reborn

"Initially, Barry is pretty scrambled when he comes out of the Speed Force," Grant Gustin reveals. "He’s not himself, he’s talking nonsense. When he was in the Speed Force, he experienced his whole life laid out in front of him from start to finish. So in some sense, he comes out very wise, kind of knowing everything, but he has no understanding of what he’s seen, so he comes out very jumbled and talking what he thinks makes complete sense, but just nonsense to the rest of the crew."

Fear not, Barry won’t be like that all season, as executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explains that his time in the Speed Force has actually had a really positive effect on him as well. “The most important thing about Barry this year is that the experience of being in the Speed Force was a bit of a baptism for him. The premiere episode is called ‘The Flash Reborn’ and Barry, in a way, has been born again,” Kreisberg says, noting that the title doesn’t mean the show is following the The Flash: Rebirth story line from the comics. “His experience in there has really washed away a lot of his sins and cleansed him of a lot of his doubts, his fears, and his guilts, and it really is leaving him free and clear to just have an open road and a fresh start. He really loves being The Flash again.”

Gustin concurs: “A huge weight has been lifted and he’s forgiven himself again of all the mistakes he made the last couple years and people that he’s hurt. He’s ready to move forward with the team and move forward with Iris [Candice Patton] and be happy Barry again and save Central City.”

Barry’s new outlook is part and parcel of the show leaning back into lighter, more comedic tones after traveling down a dark path the last two seasons. “I’m having fun with it, just getting to laugh things off a little bit more again as the character,” Gustin says. “When we see a bad guy that rolls around, a villain of the week, it’s not such a daunting task. We can have a little bit of fun taking down these guys now.”

Barry’s ability to forgive himself is also the next step in the superhero’s evolution. “It’s not in the titles, but every one of these shows — whether it’s Supergirl, Arrow, or Flash — it really is like Arrow Begins, Flash Begins, and Supergirl Begins,” Kreisberg says. “Now it’s season 4 and he’s really become The Flash in the comic books, the one who really is in full mastery of his skills and has the emotional maturity that he has in the comics.”

Yeah, it'd be nice to get a more optimistic and confident Barry this coming season. I hope they keep the conflict between him and the Thinker more straightforward than they did with Savitar, he doesn't need a super close connection to the team or an immediately personal conflict with Barry or the team, it'd be nice to have the villain just be the villain for a change.

The funny thing here is that I'm actually looking more towards the Flash this season and caring less about this year's crossover, which was like the opposite from last year.

I wish that we could have gotten Barry wearing his new suit for last year's big event, along with his upcoming new and rebooted optimistic personality.

It's such a huge bummer that this year's crossover will potentially be more like a 4 episode Valentine special than actual big action event. I mean to bring these characters from every other show and have them interact with each other just for the sake of complimenting aseveral tumblr pairings is just so freaking stupid.

I don't watch The Flash - is this a response to some criticism that Flash in the show isn't how he is in the comics, in other words indicating a change in direction like Zack and Deborah Snyder's early announcements about the change of tone for JL after BvS's reception?

The crossover this year appears to be a huge disappointment waiting to happen. I feel like if I miss it, nothing will matter.

Same here.
I was really disappointed by the crossover last season.
Can't say I'm looking forward to the next one at all.

I haven't watched all of the last season but I can't wait for this one. :funny:

Candice said that Iris job is all but dead, they aren't exploring that aspect of the character. Such a waste tbh.

She also revealed she'll be in a lot of the crossover. Finally.

Iris West being a reporter isn't as important to her character as Lois Lane. Her character has always been meh in the comics. Also it's ridiculous to assert that this show is now an Iris show.

Did I miss something? When did the Puerto Rican get super powers?

I hope they use that ring soon! Would be a better way for Barry to store his costume!

Huh, that’s actually pretty interesting. I’m excited.
