The Friday The 13th Movies Thread - Part 2

I was no fan of the Antosca script, though was still better than most of the ones New Line produced anyway.

Last chance to get get your hands on a copy of Never Hike Alone on Blu Ray/DVD or VHS.

Once they’re gone they’re gone and they won’t be doing anymore.

Swooped in and got one the other day. Can't wait for September when we're supposed to get them.

Yeah it's a shame about the wait but they have a lit of orders to get through so I'm ok with the wait.

Platinum Dunes Discusses Doomed 2017 Friday The 13th Film

There has never been an official reason why the film was shelved by either Platinum Dunes or Paramount. Recently, however, the site Rooster Teeth caught up with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form while they were out promoting their new film A Quiet Place and Eric Vespe asked the duo what the heck happened to Jason coming back to the big screen.

Brad Fuller: We never got a clear answer from Paramount as to why that movie got shut down. I think at the end of the day that administration, which is no longer there, didn't see horror as a viable part of what they were doing. Also they were coming off of Rings and that didn't help. For studio heads who are not fans of horror there's not a tremendous amount of glory in it other than the financial. A lot of these studios want to make big movies with big movie stars and that administration could never get excited about it. I think the rights now have reverted back to New Line.

One thing that fans have also been wondering about was if Derek Mears was going to reprise the role of Jason Voorhees. Unfortunately, according to Andrew Form, he was not.

Andrew Form: No, because we were going way back. We were going to the '70s.

Brad Fuller: We would have put Derek in the movie (somewhere) anyway because we love him so much.

Thank god that one was scrapped, I still think they should have made Antosca's script though.

Bummer, I'd have liked Derek to return. I nitpicked the remake a lot, but he was one excellent in my eyes. Kind of took the best of White, Brooker and Hodder and rolled them into one.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Happy Friday the 13th everybody.

Something interesting from Friday the 13th Franchise:

Unearthed Sequel Script From Twenty Years Ago Set Jason In Snow Prior To Jason X

http://www.fridaythe13thfranchise.com/2018/04/unearthed-sequel-script-from-twenty.html

Haven't read the full script yet but the tidbits in the article make it seem like the ultimate fan project. I can see just from that why it wasn't made but Jason in the snow needs to happen at somepoint.

I imagine they aren't produced, so that's the reason for the wait.

Yeah definitely, they probably want final numbers before they produce any. I also think they may want everything finalised to see if they get any backlash off the bigwigs who have the rights. Although they're probably a little distracted right now with the rights battle.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Great choices

I watched Part III last night, weird I was never keen on that one growing up but I love it now.

My bro is coming round tonight, bringing the Friday the 13th Game with him and we're also gonna watch Never Hike Alone as he hasn't seen it.

Finishing my marathon with the 2009 film tonight, I've blasted through the Paramount 8 over the last two nights.

Part III is still my fav and Richard Brooker is still my fav Jason too. I try to mix it up every time a Friday the 13th comes around. It can lead to some interesting combinations lol.

That sounds like fun mate. I don't own a console but have watched a few streams of it being played. :yay:

Part 3 is my favorite, too.

I think the first four movies are the most solid in the franchise.

I usually stick with the first three. V has grown on me a little bit.

III is great but I'd put many others above it personally. My favourite swings depending on my mood between Part II and the Final Chapter.

It's fun but I found it has little replay value but for a night of laughs with my bro can see it been fun.

I usually lean to Part II as my favorite.

My faves are:

1. Final Chapter
2. Friday the 13th Part 3
3. A New Beginning
4. Friday the 13th (1980)
5. Friday the 13th part 2
6. Jason Lives
7. The New Blood
8. Friday the 13th (2009)
9. Freddy Vs. Jason
10. Jason Takes Manhattan
11. Jason Goes To Hell
12. Jason X

^ Rare that you see Part 5 rated so highly with any fans. Roy the paramedic Jason lol.

I have always loved 5. Never had an issue with the killer not being Jason, back to a whodunnit like the first.

And then there's Ethel and Junior. I'd watch a sitcom of them.

The problem with the "whodunit" in Part 5 is that, it was really obvious who it was. The movie set it up so that it could only be one person (Roy).

F13 doesn't do "whodunits" very well it seems. The original works as a slasher/suspense film, but it fails as a murder mystery.

Happy Friday The 13th everyone!

I’m celebrating by binge watching the movies. About half way through the first movie right now.

And here’s a little something for those of you who are hungry for some new Friday The 13th movie goodness.

This particular fan film has been around for a while now, but for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, I think you’ll like it

I never had a problem with the killer not being Jason either. After all, he wasn’t the killer in the first movie either. The movies are called “Friday The 13th”, not “Jason” (although Jason was the working title for Part 2). The movie just needed to focus more on suspense and less on racking up the body count.

The problem with the "whodunit" in Part 5 is that, it was really obvious who it was. The movie set it up so that it could only be one person (Roy).

True, it was a little obvious that Roy was the killer. They should have had a few red herrings to throw the audience off the scent. Like having Victor escape from jail. And maybe have Tommy have a hallucination right before every kill, to make the audience believe that he might actually be the killer.

While Part 6 was a well made movie, and very fun to watch, I kinda prefer Part 5’s more realistic approach to continuing the series.

8. Friday the 13th (2009)
9. Freddy Vs. Jason
10. Jason Takes Manhattan
11. Jason Goes To Hell
12. Jason X

I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to movie franchises. I tend to rate them in the order that they came out. For me my list is:

1) Friday The 13th (1980/ Part 2
2) Part 3
3) The Final Chapter
4) A New Beginning/Jason Lives
5) The New Blood
6) Jason Takes A Cruise
7) Jason Goes To Hell/Jason X
8) Freddy vs Jason
9) the Friday The 13th fan films
10) Friday The 13th (2009)

Parts 1 & 2 have very good suspense, with likeable characters and a believable reason as to why so many characters with such different personalities would be in the same place at the same time. In this case they were all camp counselors (or in the case of Part 2, counselors in training) attending the same camp.

Part 3 still has pretty good suspense. The characters are mostly likeable, and their reasons for being together are more or less believable. The only weak link in that regard was Chuck and Pepper. They don’t seem to have any reason to be there save for the need to fill the “Stoner Quota”. The rest at least made some sense.

The fourth movie is where they were beginning to replace suspense with high body counts and gore. Most of the characters are somewhat likeable. I could see the two couples hanging out with each other. And maybe they could even be friends with Jim. Teddy is kind of obnoxious though. What the movie lacks in suspense, it makes up for with some excellent VFX.

Parts 5 & 6 are tied for fifth place. In A New Beginning I like the more realistic type story, with the killer being a psycho who basically adopts the persona of Jason. However it fails to build any tension or suspense. And the attempts at humour are a little out of place. Jason Lives is a fun ride, but this is the movie where they go all out with the supernatural elements. And that’s where I really begin to lose interest.

The New Blood is a bit of a sentimental favourite of mine, as it was the first Friday The 13th movie that I ever got to see in the theatre. It has some excellent effects. Unfortunately most of the characters were unlikeable and/or annoying. In addition, it goes even further with the supernatural elements, especially with the “Jason Voorhees vs Carrie White” story.

Part 8 was pretty damn bad. Most of the movie takes place on the boat. The effects aren’t as good as the past films. Jason’s new teleportation abilities were just dumb. The only real good thing that I can think of about this movie is looking to spot the Vancouver landmarks.

Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X are tied for 8th place. While neither one of them is a very Good Friday the 13th movie, as a “body swap” style horror movie JGTH is actually okay. Likewise Jason X is a pretty good “Alien Style” space/horror movie.

Freddy vs Jason failed as both a Friday The 13th movie, and as a Nightmare On Elm Street movie. However the final battle between the two Big Bads is pretty kickass.

There are actually quite a few Friday The 13th fan films out there that are pretty damn good. Better than a lot of the sequels are even.

The 2009 remake had a really good Jason in Derek Meers. Unfortunately that’s about all it had going for it. The pacing was terrible. Absolutely no suspense. The characters were all either unlikeable or so boring I could care less if they live or died. There wasn’t even a believable reason as to why a bunch of boring losers would be hanging out with such an obnoxious pr!*k. The kills were all uninspired and unimaginative. Not even a new twist on something old.
