The sad thing Morrowind and not going back to play it is that its the deepest of the post daggerfall ES games. More guilds, more quests, and you actually have to travel because transportation is limited (no fast travel either).

I also love how much more varied the landscape of Morrowind is over Oblivion and Skyrim.

While not a direct sequel, plenty of what happened in Oblivion is refrenced in Skyrim

There was tons of stuff like that that referenced back to Morrowind. In fact I would say there was a lot of foreshadowing for Skyrim in Morrowind.

Unfortunately I missed out on Morrowind when it came out as I'd have love to have played it for more backstory but it's too primitive for me now

I played the second Assassin's Creed game before playing the first, the age wasn't a problem or something to fuss about (even if a lot of things around it suck), so I won't expect massive let down if I play Skyrim then go back to Oblivion

There is a MUCH bigger difference between Skyrim and Oblivion than AC1 and AC2. AC1 isn't bad, just has annoying stuff. Oblivion is very dated.

And AC 1 has the whole engaging story thing going for it.

Oblivion is still a good game (until you get to the Oblivion Gates.) And if he is getting on the PC there are still plenty of mods for him to enjoy.

Oblivion feels like about 10 years different to Skyrim to me.

It is a great game...thats not the issue. I just dont think its really that enjoyable playing after Skyrim. I think he will be just fine if he does that first and I think he'll appreciate both games more if done in order. You dont need to play them in order but it definetly helps

yeah I dont feel AC1 feels dated at all. It had its own share of issues but aging isnt one of them

See I wouldnt know that, having never played Morrowind. Playing the older games definetly has its benefits

Cant see that now as Im at work but if its the HD textures mod, Ive seen it. Graphics isnt the only thing thats the issue. Its the gameplay and user interface. It just feels clunky now compared to just how much better its been improved. Also reading all that text instead of no voiceovers annoys me

Oblivion, Morrowind, and Skyrim all play relatively the same to me. Skyrim's the most different given the spell system's overhaul, but for the most part they all feel the same. I still prefer Morrowind's story to its successors', but Skyrim closed that gap way more than Oblivion did. I still haven't finished Oblivion for pure lack of interest, in fact.

that was a pretty significant overhaul and espeically if you play as a mage like me, it makes the older games hard to go back to.

Morrowind's main story is to me, still the biggest and longest of the three games. There was so much you had to do in order to beat the game. Even the guild quests were all pretty long too in comparison to Oblivion and Skyrim.

I will admit that Skyrim's story is much closer to Morrowind than Oblivion. I think it's because in Oblivion you were just playing as a regular champion where in Morriwnd and Oblivion you were pretty much both reincarnation of gods and the main focus was more on you and not another character unlike Oblivion.

And also, Oblivion Gates hurt the story in addition to the game. I think that case could have been less is more. They should have popped up more sparingly and closed until a huge one pops up at the Battle of Bruma, and multiple ones pop up around the time of the final battle to make put Cyrodil into mass panic instead of a bunch showing up randomly and making the game repetitive.

Would never happen, but I would love to see Morrowind remade with Skyrim's engine. Maybe Bethesda could give it to Obsidian to handle

Oblivion is dated, but still pretty good. Personally I felt the Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood quest lines were better in Oblivion than Skyrim. I also got sucked in to Oblivion's world better finding it easier to roleplay, and even decorate my house with items I picked up/won. Which is in part because Oblivion featured more diversity in races rather than 99% of towns people being Nord's. In Skyrim everything just goes in my chest, and I don't even care to try marriage. I also liked the moving things around physics better in Oblivion...very hard 2 make 2 corpses 69 eachother in Skyrim.

That said...EVERYTHING else is better in Skyrim. Especially the main quest, and combat. Dawnguard is only furthering the gap. Though to be honest...I'm not sure if I'll ever put the same amount of hours in Skyrim that I did Oblivion. Which isn't a knock on Skyrim.

Just beat Xenoblade Chronicles. Best RPG of 2012 for the U.S.

I fully agree that the thieves guild and brotherhood quests in Oblivion are better, story wise, than they are in Skyrim. However I feel Skyrim does pretty much everything else far better.

I didn't join either one(well i didn't do any missions for the TG), so i guess it doesnt matter for me. Did tear through the DB as a werewolf though, which was awesome. Kidnap me during the middle of the night, whole clan gets chewed up. I think thats fair.

I'm actually playing as my original main character again... I'm calling this run my "Anakin Skywalker Run."

I played this character as pure as can be, however I plan on turning him into a Vampire Lord in Dawnguard so I'm starting his downfall now.

Haha that sounds awesome. Im still undecided as to what ill do. Stick with my werewolfism(?) or become a vampire.

I'm all for joining guilds in these games

The Daily Bugle after it was bought by Dexter Bennet?

The gates were one of the worst parts of Oblivion. I think I was really underlevel when I entered one and I pretty much was stuck. This was on the 360 so I couldn't really do anything except kill an enemy, wait until I healed myself, continue, rinse and repeat. Having to do one for EVERY city up to Bruma was a pain in the ass. I'm someone who likes to do every part of a quest to get all rewards, too.

One thing I really like with what they did in Skyrim is overhauling how you level up. It's so much easier to just level up with the skills you want to use instead of picking the major/minor skills from the beginning and leveling up through those.

Id never go exploring in Oblivion because of those damn gates. In Skyrim, i walked damn near every where.

Wait...the Elder Scrolls game have a story...? I thought it was just random quests :P

That was the most annoying thing in the game. Damn, they got so repetitive. I thought they would vary it up, but that was laziness on Bethesda's part.

And that was great decision on Bethesda's part. I like that I get to increase with any skill.

The Oblivion Gates are the thing that utterly ruined Oblivion to me. Closing off major parts of the world because they've got Oblivion Gates on them sucked, especially since the Oblivion stuff seemed harder than it should be a lot of the time. It just wound up making the story feel way more intrusive than it should in an open-world game and the gameplay itself very muddled and awkward. Plus, Bethesda nerfed the RPG elements a bit too much. I'm not one of those hardcore RPG'ers claiming Bethesda sold their soul to casual gamers or anything, but even I found the RPG elements pretty shallow and bland. They restored the balance pretty well in Skyrim.
