This image right here is exactly why I would never want a Final Fantasy VII remake. At least not by today's Square.

Not only does that outline the difference in what Cloud was actually like versus what Square wants him to be like now, but I feel like it also kind of demonstrates the overall shift in tone the entire series has gone through.

Plus, this is what a Final Fantasy VII remake should look like:

Yeah, I took that as a clever way to say "never." I know FVII isn't everyone's favorite, but to a vast majority it is. SE, IMHO has been lazy with FF's since 9. They all just seem paint by numbers and not as good as PSOne/SNES games.

Final Fantasy X, XI, and XII were all pretty awesome and not at all like each other or the previous ones.

I hated X, I don't count XI and XII was Star Wars with FF characters.

Also, while I enjoyed XI... It never felt like FF to me. I still wish it wasn't a numbered entry in the series.

Oh, you guys are talking about Final Fantasy in here now?

*quietly ducks out of thread until that's over*

I LOVED FFX. Cant wait till the HD remaster makes its way to the PS3 and I hope XII follows after it

Has anyone played Conan?

Is it worth $4? I keep seeing it on Games on Demand, after buying Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands for $5.

I was never a fan of Final Fantasy. I hated JRPGs witha few exceptions.

To be bluntly honest, I love that Western RPGS have overtaken JRPGs in the last decade.

They haven't though, all the good RPG's are still being made in Japan.

No one's talking about them outside Japan so they arent as relevant. IA with Parker Wayne in that western RPGs have taken over. There is no jRPG out there right now that is as big as an Elder Scrolls, Fallout or Mass Effect. Final Fantasy is still probably the biggest name and biggest seller and its reputation has pretty much been tarnished in the last several years

I like variety, so I'm not happy at all that western RPGs completely dominate the market.

Let me rephrase my comment. All the good turn based RPG's are still being made in Japan.

I really enjoy those kinds of games.

Hah, i picked both up. Id say Conan is worth the 4 bux but not a penny more. Its just a poor mans GoW, a very poor mans GoW. It does have some nice looking kills tho.

Everything that was "now" was better than the stuff that was "then". The first image posted, the one on the right was better. The 2nd image was just ugly and third image looked awesome.

Altho, iv never played any of the games so...

You and me both. I seem to have an issue with a lot of Japanese storytelling tropes, as I can't really get into a lot of the anime I've seen or manga I've read, either. I think the only reason I managed to like a bunch of JRPGs back in the 8- and 16-bit days is because the visual capabilities were so limited that everything looked almost identical to how a western game would look and they couldn't do 30-minute cutscenes.

Haha, oh well.

Ya know i played the demo for that game and didn't have any problems with my movements registering yet ALL the reviews list that as a big problem. Still dont plan on getting it any time soon, but i thought that was odd.

Eastern storytelling is very different and I dislike that many JRPGs are full of itself.

Apparently Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour will be using both kinect and controller at the same time.

the reveiw that came out for it all say it was a bad idea. connection wise it was a frailer. oh that and the fact they didn't Explain you were supposed to use the hand held controller along with kenect too. which wasn't mentioned to the public.

Steel Battalion Heavy Armor (Xbox 360)

The original Steel Battalion was an original Xbox title that came with an enormous controller, complete with foot pedals. Now it's a Kinect game with virtually no controls. Victor and Scott head into battle inside a Vertical Tank with Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor...

To be honest, I never understood the recent hate all Japanese game trend over here. Are there a lot of crap Japanese games? Sure. However there are a lot of crap western games too. For every FFXIII 2 they make, Western developers make a Bionic Commando, or spend 1.5 decades to make a Duke Nukem.

There are great JRPG's out there if you're not just following the most famous ones like FF (which HAS majorly declined). Many seem to be on handhelds anymore, butDemon's Souls, Disgaea 3&4, and Valkyria Chronicles have been some of the best RPG experiences I've had this gen.

If anything...I agree with the diversity statement. Why it has to be an either or situation is beyond me. I LOVE that western RPG's are vastly improving. More Elder Scroll, Dragon Age (1, not 2, lol), and Mass Effect's are a good thing. Yet, to me, this gen still feels incomplete. I miss my Xenogears, Breath of Fire's, GOOD FF's, Chrono's, and Suikoden's. Even though there have been some awesome RPG's this gen, I think the PS1 era still holds the crown for me for best RPG generation.

With that said though....I do agree a lot Japanese developers do seem to be stuck in a rut, and sales do reflect that.
