I'll be skipping the new consoles for a while. Most likely I'll be motivated by games more than anything else. When the Uncharted franchise switches to the PS4, I'll probably feel a need to get the new system then. Not really sure what'd motivate me on the Xbox side, since their exclusives tend to be more bro-gamer-oriented and those don't really interest me much.

I go the same with pc's. Why upgrade my pc when I'm going to have to spend hundreds of dollars in a year and upgrade it again

i only ever upgrade my pc when needed, hate those guys that have to buy the latest bleeding edge kit every 6 months.its just not necessary for playing games if u purchase wisely

I'm going pc plus one major next gen console at launch. Will be at least a year later before I consider getting the other or a wii U, possibly a lot longer.

which one u set on m8? sony or xbox?
All my friends are on XBox so it will most likely be XBox unless they have a really disappointing conference. I've always been Sony from PS1 to 3 but that European release delay made me get a 360 early and I now have hundreds of games for it. But as long as Uncharted & God of War continue I'll be getting a PS4 at some point, just later than in the past.

I'm definitely sticking with Sony and the PS4, but I too will be waiting at least 6-12 months before considering buying one. Though for me its more about the hardware issues that are most likely to happen in the first year. I don't want to get one right away and find out there's some bug that affects the console and damages it or can lead to some other hazard. And I also don't want to go through what my brother has been going through with his Vita where he doesn't play it much because there isn't a massive library of great games out.

Not to mention, I've always been one who's behind on the latest tech. Its 2013 and I just got my first iPhone.

yeah my bro likes those 2 game series as well but he said he found the last god of war prequel bit uninspired n without a real adversary

don't blame ya spidey, every console manufacturer seems to build too cheaply at first till ppl start sending loads back within first 6-12 months

I didn't play it yet even though I'm a big fan. Side games never interest me anywhere near as much as main series. I didn't like Gears of War: Judgment and that was probably the series that I was most a fan of up to that point (inclusive of multiplayer and co-op horde modes). One bad game is enough to bring the whole thing down to (or behind!) the level of Mass Effect to me.

i've still yet to play all mass effect games, they been in my collection for ages, same with assassins creed.only just started playing bioshock, thats how much gaming i have to catch up on lol

That's how I am too. I definitely know I'm getting a PS4, it just won't be at launch date. Sony consoles tend to be reliable, so I'm not expecting a RROD fiasco. It's just that no company is infallible. I like to wait half a year as well (did the same with the PS3). That way I know the hardware's reliable, and I've given time for new price drops or entry level deals to shore up sales.

Not to mention, most important of all, launch titles usually aren't good enough to warrant a purchase. There's usually 1 really good title, and a few average ones, and the rest tend to be terrible. After half a year or so more enjoyable titles have rolled out to make it worth a buy. i'm not eager enough to rush into a purchase that I'll have a $400-500 paper weight I only used for one game setting on my shelf, waiting half a year to use it again.

Of course on the other hand, if you wait too long you miss out on some really nice deals. Like Sony handing out 20 or so BR's, and a few games when the PS3 launched. If you waited too long you really missed out on some amazing deals which helped offset the PS3's launch price.

If a heavily character-based sci-fi action RPG sounds like your kind of thing I'd make it a priority. ME1 is more RPG and ME2 is where it becomes more action based. ME2 is one of my favourite games of all for the time it came out.

And I'm in exactly the same boat. I was a massive gamer up to the end of the PS1 era and the start of PS2 but then played a hell of a lot less in my early & mid 20s when I started working and was out all the time. And from soon after the launch of this gen I've got back into it but I couldn't even get online with XBox Live until 2008! 2 years of almost exclusively playing Gears 2's Horde mode meant I was 4/5 years behind on all franchise games by 2010 when I started broadening my horizons. Still catching up today and although I own nearly every major game that's at least a year old I've still yet to play properly the likes of the Fallout games, the Bioshock series, the Dragon Ages, the Dead Spaces and many others. And ME & AC I only caught up on this year!

Exactly the same for me.

I'm definitely upgrading my PC when the time is right, plus I'll get a console at some point down the road. Probably the Wii U.

You don't have to upgrade your PC every year. There are definitely people who do always buy the latest thing to squeeze the most juice out of their rig as they can, but that's not at all necessary if you're just interested in playing games. Those people are PC enthusiasts first and gamers second.

However I will say with PCs at least upgrading every year is even an option if that's what you're into.

actually i do like character based rpg's rather a lot, haven't played that many of late, but i used to play rpg's and story based adventure games almost exclusively back in psx days. only games like that i've taken time to play lately would probly be dishonored and deus ex h.r.

but like u i'm only just startin to enjoy my games again

oh n skyrim ofc, there may have been just 1 or 2 others but my memorys terrible these days

Nice, I need to finish off the 1st game. Like what I played of it though. Much different atmosphere to most other shooters.

Whats the deal with that game? Just another post apocalyptic shooter? Or is there something more than that?

there are elements of survival horror in it like if you played F.e.a.r. with some of the creatures you meet in it and ammo resource management for some of your weapons. But there's a little more to it then that.

Hm, i watched like 10 min of that video Soapy posted and it looks pretty neat. Iv never really read anything about that series.

from what i remember it's a cool series. It is indeed post apocalyptic but it's mostly in places like subways/ metro's almost under ground most of the time and there are factions, and i haven't played all of the series, but it is interesting.

on another topic something in the vain of mass effect but in only in the inspiration of game play cause the two dev studio's have said they are fans of each other

Here's a game play video for you all to see that was put up today. and you'll see what they took Mass effect as well as they stated.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is the origin story to XCOM. You may remember it once as a FPS. Now it's swung to a third-person perspective.

Borderlands 'On Track' To Be Highest-Selling 2K Game Ever

During an earnings report for its 2013 fiscal year, Take-Two (parent company of 2K) revealed that six million copies of Borderlands 2 have been shipped to retailers to date. According to Take-Two president Karl Slatoff, Gearbox’s shooter is on track to be the highest-selling release in the history of the 2K label (which doesn’t include Rockstar Games).

Slatoff noted that sales of Borderlands are expected to continue to rise, as the game’s Psycho DLC is coming tomorrow and its final campaign DLC is coming in June.

Take-Two also revealed that Max Payne 3 has shipped 4 million copies to date, a million more than the three million shipped as of May 2012. According to Take-Two, “The largest contributors to net revenue in fiscal year 2013 were Borderlands 2, NBA 2K13, BioShock Infinite, Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Red Dead Redemption.”

Still, looking ahead, Grand Theft Auto V will mark the biggest part of Take-Two’s upcoming earnings, with Rockstar expected to represent 65% of upcoming revenue (with 2K representing the additional 35%). Upcoming 2K titles include WWE 2K14 on October 29th, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified on August 20th and NBA 2K14 on October 1st.

Overall, Take-Two earned $1.214 billion in net revenue in its 2013 fiscal year, up from $825 million in 2012. Strong sales of BioShock Infinite are partially responsible, while a 192% increase in digital revenue compared to last year also contributed.

“2013 is the 20th anniversary of Take-Two’s founding and, today, our Company is better positioned for success than at any other time in its history,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said. “With Rockstar Games launching Grand Theft Auto V in September, fiscal 2014 is poised to be one of our best years ever. Looking ahead, we have an extensive pipeline of next-generation and emerging platform titles in development, including both new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises.”

Good to see someone doing well. And funny how games like GTA IV are still big contributors in 2013 lol. Just shows that sometimes real quality pays dividends.
