Woah, sad and sudden. He just got married last weekend.

Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013
Giant Bomb has suffered a profound loss.

Ryan Davis passed away on July 3rd. He was 34.

Obviously we’re all stunned over here. Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.

Many of you know that Ryan was recently married. In the face of this awfulness, many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outrageously, uproariously happy, looking forward to his next adventure with the biggest grin his face could hold.

The consolation we can feel from that is miniscule compared to the hole that Ryan’s absence will leave in our lives. That’s not a hole that is possible to fill; it’s just something that we’ll just have to get used to walking around with, and that will not happen for a long, long time.

I was hoping this was some kind of joke, but holy ****. He literally just got married. I've been listening to him on podcasts and watching him in videos since around 2005/6.

****. This is the worst news. :(

Terrible to hear. RIP.

What happened though?

When I first saw the tweet my first thought was "oh those wacky kidders" and then slowly shifting into horror as I realized what had actually happened. :csad:

**** man. Ryan Davis has been a huge influence on me over the past few years. This is heartbreaking. I keep feeling the urge to cry when I think about this.

You will never hear, "HEEEEEEY everybody it's TUUUUUUUUESDAY!" ever again. ;_;

I don't even want to think about it at this point, but the next time they do a podcast it's going to be utterly devastating.

Ryan Davis playing Dance Central. One of my favorite moments.

This is sad, I never failed to be entertained anytime I look at GB's Quick Look or TANG, their banter is wonderful and it won't be the same without Ryan. :csad:

I was at Target and saw some PS2s for $129. I was shocked to see the system as I didn't think any major retailer was still selling it and also shocked that it hadn't dropped to $100

Was just listening to this old podcast yesterday and this part had me rolling.

Ryan and Jeff are my absolute favorites to listen to talk about games. This is shocking and devestating, man just shocking

Wow thats awful. Any news on cause of death? Im assuming heart issues, but whatever it was, that sucks.

They haven't given out the cause of death, but he's been suffering from sleep apnea for a while. One of his tweets during his last days was about how little sleep he was getting on his vacation/honeymoon, and one of his wife's first tweets after he died was about sending her 'big bro over to wake @taswell up..."

Sad.

Damn. That just sucks something fierce.

Ryan's dad started posting pictures of Ryan as a child and I lost it. Today has been so erratic, I've never been so bothered by a death that was outside of my family.

I really feel for his friends and family. 34 years old and a newlywed. :csad: :(

I think if this has shown anything to me, it's highlighted the power of podcasting and new media and how it can bring people together. I mean, it's amazing for so many people to have a deep personal connection with someone they've never met from a different city/country. It's nice that the internet can really bring people together sometimes and not just be a haven of filth and negetivity.

That's very true. I've seen a lot of disgusting **** that the internet has done over the years, but days like today make me proud to be part of the online gaming community. The public support has been astounding. I think it's due, in part, to the fact that we can't really celebrate Ryan's life in the "real world." I mean, we can tell family and friends how sad we are and they can understand that, but the online community is where the real catharsis is taking place in this case.

This has been a terrible day, but it's also been a celebration of Ryan Davis' life and that's a beautiful thing. I'm glad I was able to share in the experience of being entertained by Ryan Davis. I didn't know him personally, but he seemed like the kind of guy that was friend to all. Life wont be the same without him, but it it has forever been improved because of him. Thank-you Ryan Davis, for all the things I'll never be able to thank-you for.
