The Gaming Lounge: Beyond - Part 6

It's the one game out there that finally addresses the fact that you're killing all these people. Gets into the psyche of the main character. The story is the reason to play, the gameplay is good but theres nothing new to it.
Sit through a good story and not interesting gameplay is not for me

Need some advice! I just platinumed The Last of Us and looking to move onto a new game this weekend. I was thinking of Bioshock Infinite but decided Id rather try an older game from last year instead. Which should I try?

Hitman Absolution
Dishonored
Spec Ops the Line
Resident Evil 6
Deus Ex (even though that's a little bit older)

Pretty much looking for something that's quick and fun and wont take up a lot of my time.

Stunning game that one.

If Konami Makes A New Contra It Has To Do "Something New" Says Castlevania Producer. August 12, 2013 . 7:20pm

“I think if you’re going to bring Contra back you’ve got to be able to do something unique and intuitive that hasn’t been done before. You can’t just bring out a generic shooter,” said Konami producer Dave Cox.
Dave Cox, producer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the upcoming sequel, has made it no secret that he would like to work on Contra at some point in the future. Since Cox is about to finish his work on the Lords of Shadow storyline and Konami recently filed trademarks Contra and Contra: Run & Gun we had to ask him about Contra.

Cox laughed when I brought up the trademarks and replied, "I think if you’re going to bring Contra back you’ve got to be able to do something unique and intuitive that hasn’t been done before. You can’t just bring out a generic shooter. You have to have a new idea. I think if we had a new idea and we could combine that new idea with the universe of Contra that would be special. Yeah, watch this space."

If Konami Makes A New Contra It Has To Do "Something New" Says Castlevania Producer I asked Cox how he felt about Contra 4 and Hard Corps: Uprising which were made by external developers WayForward and Arc System Works. "The problem with doing games like that is you are not doing anything new," said Cox. "You are basically remaking or doing your slant of something that has happened before. You have to have the things that made that game great, like Castlevania, you need to have that, but you have to not be afraid to do something new.

The problem with Contra it hasn’t really had anything done new to it so it’s become this hardcore niche game." "How would you bring Contra back so it isn’t a hardcore niche game? Contra: Hard Corps has always been my favorite game in the series and like other 2D Contra games I would say the core of Contra is hardcore. The games are designed to be challenging, even if you use the Konami code to cheat," I questioned. "If someone were to do Contra, to say hypothetically, it would be like a new IP in many ways. We are hardcore gamers, we played those games, but there are a lot of people that don’t know what Contra is. They have no idea. There is a massive audience out there, they play Call of Duty and love those games, but they don’t know what Contra is.

I think if we were going to reintroduce something to that audience. It has to be new, unique, it’s got to stand out. It’s got to have a new idea, something really cool about it that’s never been done before," Cox answered. Since Cox made it clear that Contra is the main series he would like to revive, I asked him what other Konami franchises could use the same kind of refresh. "I guess Silent Hill would be the obvious one. Sometimes a series needs a little break. Sometimes it needs to have fresh eyes, a new team to come in and bring their creative vision to it. Perhaps, Silent Hill will be a project Konami that can bring back," Cox said. "It’s not something that I would be particularly interested in doing myself. I’m more of an old school guy.

I grew up with Castlevania and Contra is what made want to work at Konami at the end of the day. They are my passions. I’d like to see Konami do some new stuff, bring something new to the table. I think next generation offers great opportunities to do new things."

I never tried to finish any Contra game, one shot death is too bad without unlimited lives

I played and enjoyed quite a few of them, I don't that I ever finished any though.

Every gamer that grew up in the 80s/early 90s played and loved Contra and if you didnt, there was something wrong with you. If it wasnt for Contra, we'd have never received Gunstar Heroes and that was one of the true gems from the 16bit era

I completed Gunstar Heroes a few times
Would have completed a few Contra games if not for the one shot death

Was Contra on the Genesis? Or was it arcade? I dont think i have ever actually played that game.

Both Contra and Castlevania have games on every system of these 3: Genesis, NES, and SNES
There is a Contra arcade game, I have the rom, but it's broken

super Contra was on the Snes or was ported to it some time after. It's the most talked about of them all too. Slot of people were exposed to that one most of all. I guess you just missed it some how. that happens some times.

Dude, my post is directly under the one you quoted
Anyway
Original games
Contra (Arcade, NES, MSX2, DOS, C64, CPC, ZX) (1987)

Super Contra (Arcade, NES, DOS, Amiga) (1988)

Operation C (Game Boy) (1991)

Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance) (1992)

Contra Force (NES) (1992)

Contra: Hard Corps (Mega Drive/Genesis) (1994)

UGH, another lag

You guys should play the latest Super Mario Crossover on Exploding Rabbit, it has Contra character with several skins, and it's lots of fun

Contra was Probotector in the UK. Don't think it was for every iteration of the game. It was probably a PAL territories thing or whatever. They replaced the main guys with robots and I think they changed the story. I liked the look of the robots myself.

It's all about supply and demand. I see nothing wrong with them pricing the games so high especially if they aren't readily available. It's about what you'd find second hand from EBay anyway.

Funny bc I looked on Amazon yesterday and saw that Capcom vs SNK 2 for PS2 is going for $199.99 and I actually have a copy. I wonder if there's a site out there that tracks rare popular games and the average value of them

Oh I don't care if they price them high.. But if you trade Xenoblade in you should get like 50 for it.
